• Wakizashi Kagame Training
Rank: “D”, “C”, “B”
Skill: Taijutsu
Effect: Allows advancement in the wakizashi Kagame style
Special: --
Drawback: --
Description:
o “D” Rank – The primary introduction to training in this style involve dodging and evading moves. A wooden wakizashi is used in training and combat at this level. While this may seem simple on the surface, the style requires its user to react in a heartbeat to do some of the techniques. Emphasis on prediction of movements using body movements are used.
o “C” Rank – The next step of training involves using the quick responses harbored in the safety of the beginning classes are put to offensive use. Fast movement and footwork is emphasized here in order to aid in optimal counter-attack placement. Training is still done with a wooden blade, but the student is officially allowed to carry a real blade outside of class.
o “B” Rank – This is the most intense training in the style. First, the student is pushed to his limits time after time for weeks on end to ensure the beginning levels have not been forgotten and are perfected. Intense study is placed in the muscle and nerve systems before any training on the techniques is used, for the style places emphasis at this time on disabling the opponent. Students have been known to pass out or even die during this level of training.
o “A” Rank (second B-rank training) – The final level of training for any user for the wakizashi kagame style. The wooden wakizashi is replaced by a steel one for training this level. By now everything in training before this has been perfected, but physical training similar to “B” rank is used to ensure it. Many students that have reached and passed this level carry several scars of all shapes and sizes, and medical ninjas are kept on standby during this training, for it is very easy for someone to be struck down at this level. The final test of this level is to search for and locate a master, which, due to their erratic wandering pattern, usually involves a long chase indeed.
Limit: Must be taught by a Wakizashi Kagame Master

Amarante entered the Wakizashi Kagame dojo carrying with her the wooden Wakizashi she bought but an hour ago. She had decided to take up the Wakizashi training to help her achieve her goals of killing the white haired shinobi and as such had sought out Nanami Ayumu to aid her in her mastering the swordsmanship, hearing that he was the village’s one and only master of the style.
She had met with Master Nanami Ayumu the day before and was now looking for him so he could train her. Searching the faces of all the people present, she eventually found him speaking with what appeared to be advanced students of the dojo.
Finding the courage to speak to the master, Amarante approached and pipped up. “Excuse me, Master Ayumu…” she began. Said master, turning his attention towards her, looked her over for a moment before answering her.
“Ah yes Amarante is it not?’ he enquired, Amarante nodded. “The beginner class is over there. It’ll begin in about twenty minutes; wait there until I come over to address the class.” He indicated a mid sized room containing individuals all adorning a white sash, the sash bearing the logo of the dojo. Turning back to Master Ayumu (after looking to where he had indicated), he continued. “Here take this as well” he threw a white sash of her own to her which she caught.
Bowing her respects, she made her way over to the room. As she did so she could have sworn she heard some of the advanced students quietly giggle amongst themselves. Puzzled, she tried to figure out why they were though she quickly figured out why. Upon closer investigation most of the beginner students were snot nosed kids around five years old. Apparently she had arrived to train on kids’ day. ‘… Jerks’ she silently jeered.
Folding and fastening the sash around her forehead as a head band of sorts, and taking her shoes off (as per the custom), Amarante took a place away from most of the other beginner students and stood silent and patiently, awaiting the beginning of the class while thinking of the white haired shinobi who had failed to give his name. She would have to find a way to find him, a man as bold as he was would have to be on the ANBU’s watch list or in the BINGO book or something so maybe that was a starting point.
She was interrupted from her thoughts however by the voice of what appeared to be a young boy. “So you’re a newbie huh?” she said to her.
Turning to address the boy, Amarante noticed his unusual attire. He wore a grey hooded t-shirt with a skull and cross bones image imprinted on the front, the skull however had eye sockets in the shapes of love hearts and cat ear like protrusions coming out the top, long black cargo pants, large pink skate shoes, a black wrist warmer on his left hand, his right hand having three large rings, imbedded with skull designs, on the index, ring and pinkie fingers and a large silver chain necklace. His face was sort of ovalled while his hair and eyes were a deep shade of matching light brown. Said hair was short and purposely messy being pushed up most likely with gel of some sort.
“Who are you?” she exacted. The boy remained silent for a moment before answering, a smile forever planted on his face.
“Oh sorry” he apologised. “That was rude of me, for not introducing myself and also for calling you a newbie like I did. My name’s Ken” introducing himself the smile on his face seemingly grew bigger. Bigger still as he added on his introduction. “Means strong.”
Amarante smiled at the boys’ enthusiasm. In a weird way it kind of reminded her of Zeak. Was it a boy thing? She wondered before continuing to speak to the boy. “It also means healthy” she replied, a small snicker in her voice.
“Well, well. Someone’s pretty smart when it comes to names, huh?” Ken laughed. “So how about you tell me yours?”
“It’s Amarante, it means flower that never fades” she cheerfully answered him. “So who’d you know I was a new?”
“Well it’s because you were acting like me, alone and off to the side. You see I’m new here as well” he informed her.
“Really..?” she pondered for a moment. Ken, not allowing her to continue with her train of thought, proceeding to question her.
“So what brings you here?” he asked innocently. Amarante hesitated to answer the question.
She couldn’t just openly admit she was trying to use the techniques taught here to kill someone, it wasn’t as though everyone would be okay with it, and they’d probably just kick her out immediately if it got around the dojo. “I’m a shinobi so it’s just a part of my training” she assured him, it was not a lie but it wasn’t the whole truth either. “So what about you?” she enquired.
Ken’s face went red when she asked and he began to rub the back of his head. “Well uh… Umm…” she began, stuttering. He beckoned Amarante to come closer and looked around nervously. Deciding it was safe enough to tell her, he continued. “Well you see… There’s this girl I like and she’s a student here though she’s a higher levelled student… So I was sort of hoping I would like run into her here ya know” he confessed.
This was a bit shocking to Amarante. Him just announcing that he liked someone and that she was the reason he was here. She inwardly pouted, ‘And here I was thinking that he was flirting with me…’ Before the two could converse any further though, Nanami Ayumu entered the room and addressed the class.
“Alright everybody, eyes to the front!” he announced gaining everyone’s attention. “Before lining up, everyone who is yet to remove their shoes, please do so now and then fall in” he commanded. Ken mouthed the word sorry to the master and then took a space next to Amarante (after removing his shoes) as they lined up.
Clearing his throat, Master Ayumu continued. “Now then… I see that there are some new students here today so I’ll explain how this works. You are D rank student, the lowest rank of student in this dojo. This is a self defence class so as such the first thing you will learn to do is defend” he ushered for an advanced student to join him at the front of the class.
The student was a large middle-aged man, decked out in a black gi. He had short brown hair and carried a wooden Wakizashi. He faced Master Ayumu, who had withdrawn a wooden Wakizashi of his own from a bin full of them at the side of the room and taken a defensive posture, and proceeded to try and attack the man, swinging his wakizashi in an attack to make contact.
Master Ayumu however, expertly evaded each and every strike. When he felt as though he had displayed enough of his skill though, he beckoned for the student to stop. Obeying his teacher the student bowed and made his way back over to the other advanced students, Master Ayumu continuing to address the class. “As you can see, the first step is to be able to dodge and evade the strikes of your opponent.”
“From there, you will then learn how to counter your opponents attacks” he informed his class. Indicating the advanced students to his left, “these advanced students have donated their time to help you train. They will be able to tell how intense their movements should be judging by how fast your movements will be.” There were three advanced students and they were all wearing matching gi, as was Master Ayumu.
“Considering that they’re only three students who were able to donate their time today, we will only have three students in the centre of the room first. The other students will stand at the side of the room to observe now please, everyone make their way to the side of the room.”
At his words, everyone made their way to the edges of the room, waiting for Master Ayumu to select them for their turn. Indicating a few students on the right of the room he beckoned them to face off against the three advance students. The students he selected were a young child (a boy), probably about seven years old at the most, a woman appearing to be the child’s mother and an elderly man. “New students will observe how these classes will be carried out” he specified Amarante and Ken. “Protective body and head gear is optional. Now begin!”
Looking around the room, Amarante noticed that only she and Ken were not wearing said protective gear. ‘I wonder why?’ she inwardly questioned only to be answered a second later as one of the advanced students slapped the young mother in the side of the head with the wooden wakizashi he was attacking with. Immediately after another student slammed the wakizashi into the side of the old man, knocking him to the ground. “Guess we know why they need protective gear now huh?” Ken piped up, Amarante nodding her response.
They were really going at it; at least the student sparring with the kid knew how to hold back and was only lightly tapping the boy when he made a mistake. Either way, Amarante knew that it was going to be a different story for her and Ken. She knew that she’d be able to handle it but wasn’t sure if Ken could but that was hardly her concern. “Right that’s enough!” called Master Ayumu. The students bowing their respects and then making their way back over to the side of the room. “Now, let’s have the new students take the centre of the room.”
Amarante and Ken both made their way to the centre and faced off against their sparring opponents. Bushin, you take a rest; let’s introduce these newbie’s to the dojo.” At his words, a teenaged man made his way to Master Ayumu’s side. “Okay now begin!” Master Ayumu issued his commencement. The four students (Amarante included) now singled out in the centre of the room bowed their respects to each other and brought their respective wakizashi out in front of them and prepared for their session.
Amarante had been paired with a young woman, probably in her twenties while Ken was paired against the man who had demonstrated with Master Ayumu a few minutes ago. The woman leapt at Amarante with her wakizashi with a downward straight assault, which Amarante dodged easily enough by side stepping. ‘Underestimating me because I’m young is something you should not do’ she mentally noted to herself. She had done the same thing before as well and regretted it. A light tap on the woman’s thigh told her that Amarante was better then she had given her credit for.
Taking Amarante tap as a notification that the girl was able to take stronger faster hits, the woman proceeded to increase the rate and speed of her attempted strikes. Amarante was able to dodge these strikes with fair ease but each strike seemed faster then the last and a lot harder to predict. One final strike from the woman had Amarante having to use her Wakizashi to deflect the blow before being smacked in the head, very hard.
Smiling the woman produced a horizontal slash towards Amarante, Amarante back stepping to dodge, and then the woman followed up with a forward thrust that Amarante had trouble evading, even more so when the woman sliced towards her as Amarante side stepped causing her fall backwards a bit just to evade by a hair.
Amarante jumped a few steps backwards to get some distance between the two of them. The woman would not let her get comfortable though as she gave chase and slashed out against her again. Jumping backwards again, she accidentally bumped into Ken who was trying to evade his opponent as well, who was also giving chase.
Sparing each other a glance they both jumped out of the way as the large man came in for a downward strike and the woman came in for another horizontal slash, Ken jumping to his left, Amarante to her right.
The woman’s slash came in first, slicing nothing but air but was quickly followed by the mans’ downward strike which slammed into the woman’s arm as she followed through with her strike. “Ouch! Damn it Goro!” she cursed, causing the man to sweat drop.
“Oh I’m sorry Ana” he quickly apologised, realising what he had done. “I didn’t see you I swear!”
“That’s enough” called Master Ayumu, cutting in before an argument could ensue. Turning to face Amarante and Ken who were now standing side by side a few feet from Ana and Goro, he spoke. “Obviously you are both fairly talented” he complimented. “It appears I’ve underestimated you both. Do you both happen to have previous martial arts experience?”
Amarante was the first to answer the Master. “Apart from also being a shinobi, which I informed you yesterday, I have practiced the fighting discipline of Mauy Thai” she informed the man, Ken pipping up to voice his answer after she had spoken.
“I’ve also practiced kickboxing on and off for the past couple of years” he answered, surprising Amarante a bit.
Ayumu noted these previous experiences and then quickly dismissed them. “No I don’t believe that is what is making you perform well here today” he said causing Amarante and Ken to look to him in uncertainty. “I believe you both have something pushing you to do so well, something driving you to get better and fast, so am I right?” he asked.
Receiving hesitant and puzzled nods, added blushing on Kens part, he let out a hearty laugh and continued. “Ha-ha, well keep it up. It’s a good thing whatever it is and don’t worry I won’t press for information” he assured them. If only he knew what he just said.
He had practically just given Amarante permission to go and kill someone with the abilities she would learn here. Something she was sure that the man would disagree to. Master Ayumu, continuing to laugh, then asked Amarante and Ken to go and stand to the side so some more sparring could be completed.
(OOC: I’ll explain why Amarante and Ken were both able to dodge the advanced student in the next post and sorry for the length of the post but it’s also a set up for the following chapters. Sorry again.)
