Perhaps always the subject of much wonder, lightning is quite a sight to behold. Stark danger hidden in the calm, the tumultuous grinding of air currents high in the clouds unnoticeable until it’s far too late. Nature fails to disappoint, her chaotic crescendo suddenly climaxing, raining destruction on all that stands within her wrathful gaze. The result, a gorgeous, yet deadly pattern burned into the eyes of those who so humbly observe for the few seconds the brilliant flash lives. Its transience is only in its physicality. While its visage is unique each time, its meaning is immortalized from its first occurrence; bow before or perish.
Ryusei knew this well; living in Kaminari no Kuni for a number of years tends to acquaint one with more than a few freak storms. Growing up listening to thunder echoing throughout the lands like the sound of megaton bombs exploding with untold force, a symphony of destruction if there ever was one, certainly impressed not only the vast power, but the incredible danger that lightning possesses on his young mind. Having said that, the raven-haired teen could not help but chuckle in excitement, this emotion only somewhat muted by his nervousness at attempting to reign in such a deadly force.
Steeling his nerves, Ryusei began to dig into his reserves slightly, placing his palms together in concentration. Slowly spreading them apart, he began forming a dense thread of chakra between his hands, until his hands were about two feet apart. To even begin creating lightning, one needs to learn the art of controlling high-frequency vibrations in their own chakra. Focusing on the thread before him, Ryusei fluctuates his chakra output marginally. A protracted wave-like motion begins to manifest on the thread in between his hands.
Ryusei grunts in satisfaction, before attempting to violently increase the amount of chakra being put into the thread. With a loud pop, a single wave explodes through the chakra strand, completely dissipating it and knocking the young man over. Shaking himself from his minor failure, Ryusei pondered his mistake, looking upwards towards the now setting sun. ‘So it seems like the amount of chakra isn’t the problem; flooding the technique with chakra isn’t going to get me anywhere…’ Sighing at his amateurish mistake, he prepared for round two.
Standing back up, Ryusei creates another chakra thread in the same way the previous one was created, this time, fluctuating his chakra a bit more carefully. Slowly, but surely, more waves begin to form in the string, although they still lack frequency, and aren’t anywhere near uniform. A bead of sweat slides down Ryusei’s cheek as he struggles to maintain his focus on the exercise. The first step now would be to make the waves at least uniform; little good has ever come from chaotic chakra interactions. Deciding to attempt a new technique, Ryusei begins to pulse his chakra periodically, watching as the waves on the thread slowly evened out, before finally being almost uniform in distance. The vibrations danced across the string, still slow and with low frequency, but at least having some semblance of order.
Smirking in satisfaction, Ryusei let his concentration on the technique drop, only to fall down onto his back, mildly exhausted. ‘Hm…perhaps a minor break is in order…’
