- - Start, Uzu no Kuni - -
The trail before him descended a gentle slope and wound around a corner not too far ahead; it was strangely white, sanded below the rocky cover and framed quite neatly by overhanging palm fronds; the boy was quite near the sea, and only two kilometers or so from the manor house he had spent his entire life before these moments. His face was perhaps so deadpan because of his condition, and the shell it required, though the twin trickles of emerald ink descending from his eyes made his impassive face always appear gloomy and dejected. One hand was held at the hilt of his sheathed blade, the other abandoned to undulate lazily at his left hip. He had very little destination, but he figured such a wide road lead to somewhere.
He had a feeling that his parents would be on his tail with some search party or other soon enough, and so his pace was perhaps just a notch above nonchalant; the only target was forward, it could be said. He was simply fleeing, though he showed no urgency in this. Besides, the deep green forests of Uzu no Kuni were capacious and dense; it would take only a second to duck off the road and completely lose oneself within its vastness, impossible to resurrect.
And so on Kunitsugu walked, his sharp green eyes penetrating the distance, causing it to question what it held even itself; for there was a quiet ambition and expectation there, reflected in that impassive gaze. It was not necessarily reasonable, or logical, but it existed on the basis of hope.
The world was set out before the boy. And, as he contemplated this, he smiled slightly, enough to redirect twin droplets of water in their journey down his pale face.[/ul]
