The Zoo [Construction]

Now, Demandred was no slouch in these matters, at 6'1 and 230 pounds he could go for a long time at this kind of work and it was some of his favorite to do. Demandred went at, sticking the shovel deep into the ground and continued on to dig out the large stones and weeds or roots that were inbetted into the ground. The workers around him going just as solid as he was, the pace they were keeping was actually a little faster than what he was going. “Shit, these guys are good” he said to himself. A man that heard him yelled over, “Come on youngster, you letting us old men kick your ass?” he laughed. Demandred chuckled and yelled back, “Not for long old man!” he bantered.

Demandred picked up his pace as he set himself straight to task, digging as fast as he could making his way down a fifty yard by fifty yard stretch tossing the dirt into a sack beside him and then once it was full, had to weigh about fifty to sixty pounds, he would throw it over his back and bring to the wheel barrels and fill that up and continue this process for about an hour. “Hey. Demandred!” a voice called to him. Demandred wiped his forward and looked over to where the voice had come from, a man waved him over, “We need some help pulling this boulder out” Demandred stuck his shovel into the ground and made his way over to where the five other men were. “Whats up?” he asked coming to the giant boulder was.

“Shit” he said to himself when he saw it, it had to be about the size of a horse or so. “Shit is right” the man repeated. “Why do you need to take this out?” he asked in wonder. The man scratched his head, “Well, this is where the watering whole for these particular creature is going to be” he explained, “And the whole has to be a good depth so they can bathe, so this needs to be pulled up” he finished. Demandred nodded, “Makes sense” The man turned to him, “Now, you head over on that end, and secure your side, stick these metal rods in and make sure there deep enough, tie these ropes and you need to spot to make sure your side won't break. Every man will be doing the same” Demandred nodded again and ran around to his side.

A younger man more his age came over in a jog with a sack over his shoulder, many of the men started talking to eachother, “Hoo yea!!” and anticipation for what was to come. Demandred was no stranger to what explosives could do, but the amount that was needed it would be big, most of the boulder was underground but never the less it would still be a good job. Demandred was handed his own small sack, “Alright, no messing around with these boys, be careful” Demandred took it in hand and pulled out one of the sticks, they were good size it would make quite the bang when it went off. “Demandred place yours around the top and let down the fuses to the others and then make sure the area is clear” Demandred nodded to him,

“No problem” he answered. Demandred and the other men ran over to the boulder and began to set the charges, he was at the top and the other two men jumped down into the hole further and started to place there's as well. Demandred stuck it to the inside and made the blast fire downward instead of up, so no debris would strike anyone nearby. “You done yet Demandred?” A man asked him. Demandred set the fuse and threw it down to the others were they tied it all off. “Yeap, waiting on you now” he joked. Demandred and the other men ran over to the man who had a small torch, a fuse line leading to him, he lit the fuse and every man took cover just as he did hiding behind one of the larger obstacles.

“FIRE IN THE HOLE!!” the foreman screamed for all to hear. Silence preceded as they all waited, the fuse leading slowly but surely and then, a deafening ring sounded as a blast could have knocked anyone off there feet, a small sound wave left through it wake. Small amounts of rock landed all around them but the blast was a success none the less, Demandred came out of cover and looked around absently. “Good blast” he laughed, the foreman raised his head as well laughed with him, “I think thats enough excitement for today” he clapped Demandred on the back. Demandred would definitely come back here as the day started to end and he had worked it all day to his surprise.

Demandred started by digging all the holes, the dirt was nice and soft here, he had to take that into account when he was digging the depth, if the poles came out the animals could get out. Demandred thought to himself, “Hey Carl!” he yelled over to the foreman, he turned around and walked over to him. “Whats up?” he asked him. Demandred reached his hand into the ground and pulled out the soil, “This dirt is perfect for plants, if we diverge the fence back another thirty feet this way” he pointed behind himself, “It would be much safer and steadier, unless you want to cement them in?” he explained to the fore man.

The foreman scratched his fore head, “Mmhm, I'd say thats the best call Demandred, you seem to know what your doing here, surprisingly” he smiled as he walked over to another man. Demandred shook his head and went back to work, the foreman knew what to do already, but Demandred had already done this a lot of the time too. As he moved over thirty feet and started to re dig the pole holes for the fencing unit, one of the other younger guys who had over heard them walked up to him as he finished his first line. “Wow, your pretty good” he said first as Demandred looked over to see who he was, “Where'd you learn to do that?” he asked. Demandred looked up into the sky and remembered back into the past at a happier time, “My older brother and father, we used to go out all the time, help out the village” he said. He smiled to Demandred, “Ohhhh, are they here with you? I'd like to learn from them” he laughed. Demandreds face was twisted in pure agony and despair, “No.......no......they um.......passed on, years back” his voice filled with a mixture of sadness and anger. “Oh, I'm sorry” the kid backed off and didn't ask him anything else after that it seemed. Demandred didn't blame the man for that, it wasn't his fault how could he have known after all.

“We have a lot of animals that we are bringing in, it is a Zoo after all, I want you to help move them, and make sure that everyone is doing it right” Demandred shrugged again at the mans words. “Seems to be easy enough” he responded, “Well the animals are that way” he pointed, “after your done there is only about one thing that I will need your help with and then I think were just about done” Demandred saluted the fore man in a joking manner and walked started to make his way over to where the animals were kept.

Demandred couldn't help but, feel relaxed at being around so many animals, needless to say he was an enjoyed the company of animals, there instincts always made him at ease. There were many animals, Mo really was a prosperous village, he wondered who was the leader, he never thought about it until now. Demandred started with the smaller animals, a couple reptiles, some of the smaller four legged animals, wolves and so on, it wasn't until the other man ran up to him in a hurry that he took notice. “Demandred!” he yelled, all out of breath and looked to be like he was in a predicament, “We have a problem” Demandred looked at him for a few seconds and the asked, “Such as?”

The other man motioned for him to follow and he did, what else was he supposed to do in that situation? As they ran the man filled him in. “I kinda, well, I screwed up man” he started saying, “What did you do?” Demandred asked with interest instead of concern, “I was going through the cages to see what was in there and by accident I opened one up and there was.....well.....” As they turned the corner Demandred saw what he had let out, a very large lion like it was on some kind of steroids or something. “Oh, shit” Demandred said rather calmly, even he was a little surprised at how calm it was. Demandred sighed, “What cage is it supposed to go in?” he asked the other man. “Five” Demandred nodded. “Alright” Demandred cracked his knuckles and stretched a little. The lion had to be lured back into its cage and it was something that not many people could probably do, but he could do it pretty fast. Demandred walked up to the cat and clapped his hands, it looked at him and he just started running, the very large cat followed of course, it was in there instinct and he was leading it straight into the fenced in area, no, not the cage it probably needed room to run, just as it pounced at him he let his knees give out and it tumbled into the fenced area. You just had to know how to handle animals and you could understand a lot.

Everything here brought him back to his own village, it made him sad and happy at the same time, but it was something he did enjoy. “Hey Demandred, help us with this wall will yeah?” one of the men yelled over to him. “Sure thing” he yelled back. About a dozen men slowly tied ropes to the one section that was this giant wall, once everything was secure and all the joists were ready and secured. “Alright HEAVE!” he yelled. Demandred pulled hard with all his strength just as every other man did as the section of wall slowly raised up and up until was completely straight up.

As two men held up the wall as steady as they could get it, Demandred along with half a dozen more men rushed up and placed a nail in the center of each strut space and with two quick strikes drove the nail to the ground. As they all finished they now had to move on and start with the other sides, they had a lot of work to keep going on. “Alright on to the next wall piece” the foreman sounded to the men. Demandred and all the other men rushed over and did the same for the next three other wall pieces, each man giving the giant sections of wall pulled up and then continuing to nail each one into place. Demandred thought it to himself in detail, “What building is this?” he asked.

The fore man looked over his plans, “An administration building, I think. Not sure what its going to hold, but there are other buildings however, brick, concrete, stone, wood. We have it easy” Demandred had to agree with that statement, these kinds of buildings were always the easiest of all, all the walls were up now, and now that had to set the roof. The roof was much more difficult than anyone could have imagined, Demandred and about fifty others all working on this one section, first they actually built it, once it was built, they all had use the intricate pulley systems to hoist it up and onto the walls. That was a challenge in itself, as the placed it on just right finally, and secured it all with nails and bolts and so on. The roofers went on quick, tying themselves off to make sure they wouldn't fall and now he was assigned to the other duties of furnishing the building.
