The Doctor was back at it again. He was not the Handler, he was not the Bogeyman, he was not Loden. He was simply, the Doctor, doing one of the things he does best. What was that? Making alchemical products. Today the Doctor was making a simple product, smoke pellets. These pellets were a request from the Kage of Grass. The Doctor was able to establish a line of supply to her. Luckily all she asked for as of now was just non-harmful explosives.

He got started by calculating the ingredients. First he needed sweetspire, and saltpeter. Sweetspire was a form of sugar substitute. A plant that grew from large trees. For each explosive the Doctor needed half a standard vial of sweetspire, and one standard vial of saltpeter. The Doctor had a set of skills that allowed him to create a plethora quickly without wasting too much time. He took the sweetspire and calculated he would need thirty eight and a half standard vials of sweetspire.

Luckily the Doctor bought them in bulk. He took 39 from the storage and placed them on a table nearby. Then he calculated he needed approximately seventy seven standard vials of saltpeter, another ingredient the Doctor kept in stock and in bulk. Again he went to the storage, took out what he needed and placed them on the table where he performed his work. The Doctor had considered in making these explosives extended but felt that an extra minute for the time was not worth it.

Something he decided he was not going to tell the Kage about. Instead he reached to one of the drawers and took out two mortar and pestle. One was for the sweetspire, the other was for the saltpeter. These were nice in size, capable of holding the individual ingredients. With the sweetspire it was a resin already hardened. He then took out a larger container from in the storage and placed it with the mortar and pestle. He placed one standard vial of sweetspire resin into the mortar and pestle.

With the mortar he began grinding it down. He was careful because the resin was already solid and it was in chunks. He ground it in, taking his time, moving carefully as he continued to grind the resin into a powder. When the Doctor finished with the first batch he poured what he had into the other container he previously taken. Then he began to do the same with a second batch of one sweetspire resin. The Doctor wanted to be ready, make sure they were grounded down so they could dissolve correctly.

See, to create smoke pellets you had to mix together the saltpeter and the sweetspire in a low, constant heat. The heat would melt them down into a pseudo liquefied form. But before doing any of this the Doctor had to make sure the sweetspire was in fact a powder like substance. For now, he just continued with his work. One by one placing in a standard vial of sweetspire into the mortar, and then with the pestle he ground it into a dust before pouring it into the container.

Realistically the Doctor should have done this before. It would have saved a lot of time, but for some reason he did not. It was as if it would be problematic if he just, saved time. When the Doctor finished with the batch of sweetspire, he began doing the same with the saltpeter. Before that however he took the mortar and pestle and gave it a good wash. Sweetspire was not a chemical that could catch fire or explode with water so he cleaned it with soap and water before allowing it to dry.

Later on the Doctor would put the mortar and pestle in intense heat to make sure any residual was removed. For now however the Doctor had to deal with the Saltpeter. He went back to the storage and took out another decently sized container and placed it next to the second mortar and pestle. From there he placed another one standard vial of saltpeter into the mortar and began using the pestle to grind it down into a fine powder. He was more careful with the saltpeter due to its chemical reactions. He could never be too careful.

It was time for the Doctor to start crafting. He came to his house and went into the Cave. Here is where he would begin his next journey of equipment. It was recent he aquired the recipe of the Rabbit's foot which comprised of silver coins, molded into a cast, and then shaped into a rabbit's foot. This was said to improve one's capacity of luck.

It was strange that the Doctor, a man of science relied on the idea of Luck. It seemed Luck was always with him in some capacity. Whether he hit a target, or just entered a building, luck seemed to play a part. The Doctor began by placing his silver coins on a table and began dividing them up. He counted 13 and placed them in separate piles. The Doctor earlier bought four sets of 13. This would allow him to create 4 Rabbit's foots. Now he began to wonder if he needed to make them now, or later.

After he separated them he placed the sets in their own jars with the exception of the first set of 13. Depending on the culture some considered the number 13 to be an unlucky number, while other cultures idealized the number 13 as Lucky. Perhaps that was a key in producing the product of the Rabbit's foot. Since the Doctor had an alchemist station built here he had all the tools necessary. First he turned on the furnace and applied the temperature. It would take some time but he would wait for it to reach the rising temperatures of 962 degrees Celsius as this was the melting point of silver.

As the furnace was heating the Doctor took out a foundry crucible. A crucible was a contained used for melting metal objects. This one was quite thick and made of clay as it had extreme heat resistance. This allowed the Doctor to melt the silver inside without melting the foundry crucible itself within the heat. He examined it briefly making sure there were no cracks. If there were any flaws then the materials would be lost and he would have to start over again.

The Doctor then grabbed and placed next to the crucible a pair of heavy duty crucible tongs. Crucible tongs is needed to move the crucible after it's been heated to extreme heats. This was important because the Doctor would not be able to transfer, nor would he be able to pour out the molten silver without these tools. He examined the tongs just as he did with the crucible making sure they were in good working order. If these broke, again this would cause a disaster to the Doctor's work.

The third piece of equipment the Doctor needed now was graphite stir rods. This, just like the crucible allowed the Doctor to stir the molten silver without the rod melting. Graphite had a considerable higher melting range than silver. He examined it for a moment and measured it with the crucible. He made sure it was quite long enough and would not melt his hand if he got too close, which then made the Doctor remember the next 2 important pieces of equipment.

He needed his safety gear. The Doctor took hold of what was needed. First a pair of industrial grade goggles to protect his eyes against molten metal. Next was an industrial grade face shield which again was used to protect from molten metal. Then he placed on his industrial grade apron to help protect his body before finally putting on his hands the industrial grade gloves which was used to protect his hands against the molten silver.

The Doctor took the 13 pieces of silver and placed them inside the crucible. Then the Doctor opened up the furnace after making sure it was in the right temperature. Then the Doctor took the crucible tongs and grabbed hold of the crucible. Carefully, while the furnace door was open he placed the crucible inside the burning furnace. That was when the Doctor realized his mistake. He turned on the furnace first. He should not have done this.

The Doctor should have placed the crucible with the silver in the furnace before turning on the furnace. The furnace would heat to its correct temperature eventually. Doing so before increases the chance of the heat becoming too much and injuring the Doctor beforehand. Foolish for a man to make such a rookie mistake. The Doctor however did not wish to cool down the furnace now and wait some more. Instead he took the precautions to place the crucible into the furnace.

When the crucible was placed with ease he released the tongs carefully and slowly backed away before placing the tongs down, and away from the fire. He then closed the furnace while wearing his gloves. The Doctor would begin to monitor the temperature inside the furnace, making sure it kept a consistent heat. He waited patiently, while watching as it would take some time for the silver to become a molten creation. It is best to use a furnace outside, however the cave was quite large and well-ventilated.

The Doctor looked down, then towards his table before slowly standing. He glanced once more before turning away and headed to the table. The Doctor had purchased a mold needed for the casting. This was necessary before he had to carve into the silver to make the rabbit's foot. How else would you get the necessary shape while silver was in its liquid form. The mold was created from clay, using similar material as the crucible. In essence, these were critical for the shaping of rabbit's foot.
