Being an astral existence was strangely familiar to the twins, though they had never done it quite like this. The experience existed in the moment between having left their body and entering another, and now it felt as if that sensation had been stretched into infinite and now they were floating in an undefined, perhaps broken, status. There was no sound, touch, or manifestation of their own self. Just… them and nothing. In this sense, it was terrifying.
But then they touched each other’s mind, and the fear dispersed. They had their sibling with them, and each was the other’s guiding star in this unknown realm of being. To start, although it was strange, it wasn’t as if they had been put into a new world, more like a plane just above or below the surface of what was commonly reality. Like this, they could see perfectly the real world. What was different was more so the way they moved with willpower rather than muscle, and the lack of any sound left them feeling somewhat perturbed in their loneliness in this other state.
It didn’t take long before they realized why Saito wanted this technique in his arsenal. Sai and Ito, together, might have no blind spots, but while split Saito was weaker. This would let him watch his back and gain a vantage point without having to leave a body unprotected. And when Saito was safer, it meant all three of them were safer. By the end of the hour, Sai and Ito found themselves able to freely move about within a range of their body, playing tag and even relaxing in this world of only them. Soon enough, the urge to merge came, a mental call from Saito to bring them back to reality before they started neglecting their physical bodies, which would not be the first time they had done so.
