The boy, rather anti-climatically, only turned to shoot the ice woman a dirty look. However short of a response to the phoenix's command it was, it still proved to stop the woman in her tracks moments before she made some two-level mistake again. Although the phoenix had been hoping for bloodshed, it didn't make a move to lift a feather as the woman swept her eyes from it to Tomomi again. What? She mouths. She then projects her voice further, this time saying it out loud. "What?"
Standing up straight, the woman looks between the pair of souls in the large room with a look of shock stuck to her face. What kind of kid shoos away someone trying to help them? What kind of bird just sits there, roaring of flames and malice and whatever else that thing had in store. "You sayin' that thing ain't after you?" There's a few more beats, and the woman takes her time in deciding what she ought to do. In all honesty, her lack of comprehension skills only frustrates the phoenix further. " Fool, " the phoenix says into Tomomi's head, craning forward to address the ice woman directly, this time carrying through with an earlier intention. Although its visage is pointed at the woman now moving to make handseals, the phoenix's wings splayed out wide, it spoke only to the white-eyed boy at its other side.
" You disappoint me! "
In one motion, before the woman can carry through with her deadly ice maneuverings, the phoenix simply cranes its long neck forward and crash into the woman. The sharp point of its beak glides effortlessly through the woman's shoulder, tearing through her flesh and bone. It carves through the woman's torso, pulling back and shaking its head to free the metallic tang of blood from its beak. Flecks of red splatter left and right. Seemingly still enraged, it looks pointedly to Tomomi as a string of the ice woman's core hangs from its beak, breaking off as it parted and closed its beak. Though the woman attempted to say something, nothing but blood and gutturals escaped her lips. Lifelessly, her body would thud to the ground.
Though the bird wishes to lash out again, it appears to have reached its limit. It lets out a pitiful cry before exploding int a plume of green fire, a ring of glittering green cinder exploding outwards from its center in the same instance. Although it rages hot, the fire that burns up the large bird is lifeless and tepid, symbolic of the end of the beast's life. With the last bit of its life force, not unlike the flare of an ember just before it goes out, it had produced great heat. Now, as the ash of its life flutters downwards and blankets both Tomomi and the dead woman a mere few feet from him in a gray dust, the cold of the winter finally sets in. As though the sky had been clogged up, a flurry of snow breaks out. A chill curls into the ruins.
Both flame and phoenix are gone. In its place, a small chicklet of green feathers screeches as it draws in its first breath.
