Mariposa
Rank: "D"
Skill: TaiJutsu
Effect: Known as the Butterfly twist.
Special: ---
Drawback: ---
Description: Picture There are 3 types of Mariposa: the 360°, the 720°, which is the double one, and the intermediate one, the 540°. The Mariposa is one of the flashy moves generally used to show off. In combat it is used to dodge high and low attacks. The Mariposa is best suited for evasive or tricky maneuvers, adding new action to the flow of motion. The user can use it as a kick to the opponent's head. There are 3 main foot points the user can use to hit the opponent. The most powerful kick is done with the top or the ball of the foot of the second leg when completing the Mariposa. The quickest one uses the outer edge of the first foot to touch the ground. It is not as strong as hitting the opponent with the second leg. Rotation control comes from the arms and torso, and not from the legs. While there are many entrances into the spin (for example, a user could enter into the movement with a Folha Secca and then continue with the movement, which is more commonly called a corkscrew), it is commonly seen as a complete 360 spin of the body while it is horizontal in the air. Debate has surfaced on when this first appeared. Can be used to avoid high and low attacks.
Limit: Must learn from a Master of Capoeira. Must know Ginga. Must know Aú (Classic).

As Valerys and Alfonso were training they saw a butterfly cross in their training grounds, a light blue in color, and Alfonso stared at it with some amazement. Afterwards he said, "There is a technique named after this technique in Capoeira. It is known as Mariposa and involves a quick twirl into the air, spinning and avoiding high and low attacks. This sort of manueverance is useful in combat and could even dodge two attacks at once." Valerys listened closely, noting how effective this technique seemed, and asked Alfonso to show it to her because of how intricate it sounded. Alfonso threw his arms up to the left and then used his momentum to turn right and run forward, spinning in the air 360 degrees before falling back down on to his feet in perfect form. "And that's how it is done," he said simply after showing off his technique. Valerys laughed, knowing this to be useful in several situations.
Alfonso told Valerys to try and she stood in the Ginga stance. She let her physical energy flow throughout her body and then commanded her muscles to move. They listened well, and her arms flung into the air just as she changed directions and harnessed the power of her momentum. Her body wanted to flow with her, to add to her power, and directed itself with her movements to fling into the air. Valerys felt for a second as if she was flying, remembering her soulcaster techniques, and attempted to twist in the air. Unfortunately she was not very good at it yet and came back down on to her feet without having made it even 180 degrees. "At least you landed," Alfonso said, trying to be supportive. She huffed and prepared to do it again, taking her stance and building up the energy in her muscles before letting them release in one swift action.
All of a sudden her body was thrown into the air and she tried to turn it as far horizontally as she could. As she did, Valerys had her hips begin to twist and move through the air in magnificient spins. Her body began to make the rotation as the energy in her allowed the body to spin through the air. In 360 degrees she made it all the way around, and prepared her feet to land with just enough force. She cheered and said, "How was that?" Alfonso told her that it was good, but that a true practicioner could complete an entire second rotation with their spin. Valerys was a little envious and made it her goal to master this as well. Alfonso watched as she prepared herself for a third attempt and this time built up as much energy as she possibly could, launching herself into the air and twisting several times. She looked beautiful.
