Just Another Pretty Face

Look at duke. See how pretty he is? Now look at Tristan. Not so pretty is he? Now look at Duke nowbacktoTristan now back to Duke. He's not Duke, nor could he ever be, not even with Old Spice. He plays with Dice.

Joking aside - well, maybe not - the Duke is a handsome man. He's tall, and he isn't completlely obese. He's actually a bit on the skinny side. He has fingers like a world-class pianist that move like gigantic sexy spiders. Actually that's a bit of a terrifying image. Moving on.

Okay so he looks more than a little like a girl, but what's wrong with that? Look at those gorgeous green eyes, and that long, luxurious hair the color of expired black magic markers, and how it's done up into that adorable bushy ponytail. And his crazy-big bangs are made even more pronounced thanks to the red-and-black-checkered headband he wears. It makes it look like he has more of that wonderful silky mane than he actually does, and he has quite a lot of it. Even if he does tend to wear too much eye shadow, it's all for the sake of being extremely pretty. Girls like pretty guys, don't they?

What do you mean they only like the gay ones? Duke is obviously not gay. Those are the most masculine jeans ever, with their long lines fitting so tightly that he can barely move his knees, and the way they accentuate his sweet ass. And those shoes were expensive! They're made of real panther hide! "Panther Shoes of Sexy +2", even.

You say he wears too much jewelery? Well, maybe. There's probably no excuse for twin twenty-four carat golden armbands and twin sterling-silver-and-leather bracelets, even if they do give him the superficial appearance of being more muscular than he actually is. Yes, that necklace is a sterling-silver-and-sapphire heart. And even though the Die-on-a-string earring is a little camp, it serves to showcase his creativity and originality. Yes, that is completely it. At least his belt is fairly simple-looking, although it too is made of panther sexiness. And its basic appearance goes down the drain when you realize it's actually a very small yet very powerful speaker system set to play a chosen song on infinit loop until deactivated or a new song is chosen. The man spares no expense to his appearance. He considered rings, but that would clearly be overkill, and kinda ghetto.

Even his shirt-and-vest combination is carefully selected for maximum impact, with the sleeveless scarlet vest - probably dyed in the blood of some memetic sex god or other considering Duke's current track record - makes an immidiate and bold impact, catching the eye of observers while allowing him to display his metallic adornments. The two broad lines formed by the open vest and the contrast they provide with his pitch-black undershirt serve to channel the vision of whoever is looking at him, drawing their gaze inward to his pretty and masculinely flat chest, where they look up or down and see only sexy. In theory. Probably though, nobody gives a shit.

Rambling, Gambling, and Impressing the Fairer Sex

So, once upon a time there were a bunch of ninjas who weren't actually ninjas and wandered the world just because. It was probably because they couldn't make any friends because they looked kinda wierd. People are mean like that. They had all sorts of nifty abilities, but the one unique to them was that, they could pull out their own bones and not kill themselves in the process. They had a wierd disease that let them do that, and made those bones incredibly strong. Sounds nice right? It was because they had crazy-high calcium levels that would accumulate and kill them without constant maintainance. They basically became fleshy statues.

Now, two of these people wandered into eachother. This happened from time to time, because even though they were generally pretty antisocial and kept their wanderings at a distance, they all followed the same general path. Now, these two special statue-people were of the opposite sexes, a man and a woman, and they had a good amount of pent-up urges to vent. So, even though they had no social skills to speak of, they still ended up doing quite a lot of horizontal dirty dancing. Satisfied, they went their seperate ways.

Fast forward about nine months, and a baby was born. Turns out all it really takes is once unprotected. Of course it was way way way more than once, but it was all in one night so it counts. Now, this baby was very, very pretty. So pretty, if fact, that even though it was a male, both his mother and many random passers-by presumed him to be a female instead. He spent the first several years of his life in a dress. Not a good confidence booster, that.

The only form of real entertainment that girl boy Otogi, hitherto referred to at request by the significantly more masculine title of "Duke" was a set of loaded dice he had picked up while his mother was whoring herself out to some gamblers for extra cash (it turns out that she'd enjoyed her time with Duke's father so much that she would take any opportunity to repeat the excersize regardless of who was present or how many partners). They were made of plastic on the outside, with specifically weighted metal on the inside. Duke had more fun with those dice than he'd previously known could be had by anyone ever. Except maybe his mother. She had lots of fun.

And then his mother dumped him outside the Sound village and left. What a bitch. After being sufficiently mocked over his dress, a citizen offered him proper male attire, plus a bruised eye in recompense for the small one in the middle of said citizen's forehead where Duke had thrown one of his dice. This was the start of Duke the Pretty's time in the Otogakure Academy of Ninjas. Well, hell. At least she taught him how to excise the calcium from his body, though he wasn't to use it untill he could start pulling out bones. Apparently removal without buildup is just as unhealthy as buildup without removal. Common sense to most, but you'd be surprised how many people died making that mistake.

A year later and Duke had learned everything he was obligated to learn from the Academy and little more. His utter medeocrity was a little disappointing, but it didn't look like he was trying cery hard anyway. Distracted by the girls, no doubt. Certainly they were distracted by him. He is very pretty, and music seems to follow him everywhere. That may just be his prettiness. Or the small personal stereo he likes to set on inifinite loop for giggles. Can you see how pretty he is? I'd like to run my fingers through his hair, and I'm just a biography!

A Cult of Dukinality

Duke is quite obviously insane. And also possibly a rapist, but lets not get into that. Because of how ridiculously pretty he is, he was treated as a girl for much of his early life. This did not do much to aid in healthy mental growth, especially when people occasionally STILL mistake his gender. Hence the self-given title of "Duke". It's very masculine and sexy, or so he claims.

His overblown ego, which is almost certainly him subconsciously overcompensating for the complete mind fuck of his gender reveal is a complete one-eighty of the demure lady he was being raised as. Well, attempted to be raised as. His parents weren't exactly the best of their field. He considers himself to be the world's gift to women, turning his girlishness into a smooth sort of sex appeal, since he obviously can't wield the more rugged variety. Eight out of ten women would very much agree with his self-assessment. Make that seven. Or probably six.

He has a slight obsession with dice, which lead him to take up gambling as a hobby, but it isn't anything problematic or even noticeable without spending a bit of time with him. They were simply his first toy, and games that blend chance and skill appeal to him, such as poker. He unfortunately is very, very bad at it. This does not dissuade him. Also retro video games, because they don't sacrifice story for shiny graphics. Those fancy new HD 3D games are sellouts.

Duke isn't particularly fast or slow to anger, nor is he heroic or cowardly. While he prefers to avoid confrontation, he doesn't back down from a fight until it ends in either a win or a loss, and will do anything it takes to gain the upper hand against an aggressor without inhibition. Including stripping. Of course, he doesn't even really need an excuse to remove his shirt. In the presence of females he'll do all sorts of silly nonsense just to make them happy, either because it's funny, or because of his sheer prettiness, or in some other way. Doesn't matter, the Duke lives to please.

All of this comes second to the Duke's raw hedonism. He wants nothing more than to live a good life full of women and games in a comfortable home where the wine flows like water. To this end of sheer comfort, he's willing to go toward surprising lengths and difficulties to ensure he has the funds required to enjoy life as he pleases. Hence the dangerous, exerting, wounding, and potentially lethal ninja missions. Hazard pay is worth more than regular for the same amount of time invested.

In other words, he's a complete goof and mediocre in every way. Except looks. Those are fairly A-Grade. I mean, look how pretty he is! When was the last time you saw a man who was that pretty not named Sephiroth? Or Anotsu. Damn you, Anotsu!

After some three years, his psyche has reached something that only vaguely resembles stability, but is still very much in a fragile state, held together with duct tape, prayer, and false egotism. He no longer solicits the attentions of every female he comes across, but being shot down as he so often is has become a harsh blow to handle after Anotsu and Piper. He has also forgotten his "Fight to the End" mentality, perfectly willing to flee at the drop of a hat. Cowardice has replaced his bravado. With luck, more time as an active-duty shinobi will help him remember his courage, but the Duke has never been the lucky sort.
