Time dragged on and still no threats to his safety, which brought up an interesting point. He wasn't about to let his guard down but it got him thinking. If there were no threats to his safety, then this scenario wasn't about his combative abilities. So what was it about? Well these were the chunin exams, every task was designed to test for qualities that were important for a ninja captain. Clearly this wasn't about teamwork or fighting, which left the general stuff. Ability to gather and analyze intelligence. Ability to see past the obvious and discern the truth of a matter. Ability to lay plans and tricks of one's own. Mental agility. That's what this was all about. They were testing Oyushi's brain, his smarts. So what was the trick?
It was at that point that the next two cans came out of their graves. Two cans. One purple, one green. Well that wasn't what Oyushi expected... He read the two notes, the one for green was pretty obvious, spray paint a circle. The purple on the other hand was a little more complicated, he had to spray it on the same thing he sprayed red and blue. In and of itself that wasn’t difficult, but he still didn’t know where to spray the blue or the red. The question was, what three was he supposed to use?
Then it occurred to him, it was all in the order of what he was to achieve here. He was here to get a key. But once he had it he had to go home. Now he had come through some kind of crazy portal, which meant he would surely need to leave that way too, only there was no portal to leave though. That meant one would have to show up somehow, and Oyushi was pretty sure he knew how. The red, blue and purple seemed to be a group. For a start they went together as colours. Secondly, they were all noted with something about where to spray them, and the locations were all related. So if he needed three spray cans to get the key, those would be them.
This left the green spray unused, but it left a job undone too. If he needed to get home then either a portal would just show up when he got the key, or (if Oyushi was right in his theory) he would spray it in a circle on the ground and create a portal to get back. It all seemed to fit. There weren’t many questions left to answer. Firstly, were there more cans? If he had been digging one at a time he would have stopped at three and not known about the fourth. Surely it was possible that the same was still true. There could be a yellow out there after all and Oyushi could be falling for exactly what they wanted him too. Then again his theory seemed pretty solid. The second, and arguably more important question was where was he supposed to spray all of this?
It was then that convenient timing struck and the voice pointed out the crypt. Oyushi looked around, wondering where the guy was referring to, and then he saw it. He had thought it was a large head stone, but it was actually a crypt with stairs running down to it, which made it look shorter than it was. Plus the thing was probably huge underground. It was by far the biggest thing around, so the Yuki ninja had to admit it didn’t really seem like the voice was leading him astray. At the risk of being a sucker, Oyushi had to think that the key was likely in there. Plus… If there were going to be zombies anywhere…
He made his way over, clones in tow. The Onigami stashed his green paint and pulled out the red. He strolled around to the left side of the crypt and sprayed a large and roughly shaped smiley face. Because style is important. Never forget that. He put away the red and pulled out the blue as he walked to the opposite side. Again a crude smiley face came to adorn the side of the crypt. Then last of all he hopped up onto the top, drawing the purple and spraying a final smiley face on the top of the crypt, right between the red and the blue. Immediately his hand stuffed the spray back into his pouch and redrew his kunai knife. And so he stood, eyes narrowed, head turning, weapon raised defensively as he waited to see if anything would come of his attempt to solve the puzzle that was this room.
