Personality:
Karissa is a child who has has suffered severe mental trauma throughout her entire life and yet as it has always been the way of things, the girl has never known what abuse she suffered. From the time of birth she was locked away from the world in a small space with only a single raggedy, beat up old doll for company which she made into an imaginary friend of hers. With each Puppet or doll she creates or obtains in other manners a new imaginary friend is created, each and every one with their own personality, given life by her skills in Puppetry. The girl is also incredibly attached to her father, despite having never received any acts of affection from the man she desires nothing more than to perform an act to make her father happy. One would be hard pressed to find a logical reason to this, if asked Karissa herself would only be able to say 'Because Daddy is Daddy.' in response.
Given the settings she was raised in, the girl is also incredibly lonely, which is part of the reason for her imaginary friends, yet this loneliness has also given a desperation to learn, to make friends, and many other things. Yet the level of desperation can be off putting to some people, as she also lacks the knowledge of how to hold back or handle people in general. The girl is also quite naive when it comes to social activities in all their forms, with all of her ignorance of how the world at large functions. In such cases she seems, and very often acts, as if she were a child despite the fact that she is twenty two years old, the lack of worldly experience has left her with a less than properly developed mind. The childish nature she possesses also gives birth to a nature of an ever growing curiosity, tastes, smells, sensations, sounds, so many things she has never experienced and not nearly enough time to experience half of what she wishes to.
All in all, it would be fitting to describe Karissa as a kind child, someone who wishes only to be what others would call a 'good girl.' She is also very appreciative of what is given to her, having very rarely received anything of her own at all. Her 'good girl' attitude brings her to the belief that it is wrong to lie, steal, or hurt others at all, however this is not an absolute. As said before, her lack of contact has made her naive of the ways of the world and as a result it would not be very difficult for a person to convince her that doing something wrong could, in turn, be the behavior of a good girl.
Appearance:
Karissa was born a beautiful child, her hair being a rare natural white, a color reminiscent of freshly fallen snow and is a hair color that once, long ago, was associated with the blessing of a long forgotten god. Usually, the woman's long white hair is worn pulled back into a quite loose braid which is held together with normal elastic bands or simple twine. Her fairly large eyes are an icy blue color that contrast her incredibly pale white skin, a sickly paleness obtained from a lack of sunlight for most of her light aside from what little came through the cracks in the walls and ceiling. Her body's build is quite sickly at present, as the food she had been given has left her malnourished and incredibly thing, being roughly sixteen pounds below what a healthy female of her size would be. The lack of proper nutrition shows in her face where her cheek are gaunt and drawn in quite visibly by the lack of body fat on them, this can also be seen on the rest of her spindly body.
She has quite the frail body and unless the clothing is tailored for her sickly thin physique than an outfit will simply hang on her body. The girl, like most, changes her clothes, wearing something different whenever she gets the chance, once in a while the girl will find something she really enjoys wearing and wear it more than other outfits. Yet she will always, always keep the old rags that she was found in with her since they were something given to her by her father. For the time being one of her outfits to wear is a shimmering blue dress with a snowflake pattern on it and thin sleeves of a much lighter shade of blue in color and a slit that goes up to her knee. She wears various other outfits most of which are dresses, which she seems to be quite fond of over ordinary pant and shirt combinations.
With no idea about real practicality when it comes to clothing, the girl chose a dress for what she would wear to go out and perform tasks given to her. The woman's dress for mission is full length and a sea green hue trimmed in gold. Above the bodice the dress is black and goes up to her neck and is completed with long sleeves that reach down to her wrists. She also wears gloves that go down part way onto her forearms shaded a slightly lighter shade of sea green than her dress, these gloves also hide the scars she has on her hands from accidents while she worked. Fastened around her neck with a turquoise brooch is a midnight purple cape that also acts as something of a collar for the dress as well as being decorative, as it possesses no hood for use.
History:
As many tales begin, the sad tale of Karissa Byers starts with her parents, two people of a highly religious nature who fell in love. However, due to complications during childbirth the woman died and the father of the newborn child saw the infant as nothing more than an abomination. Still, Karissa was born a child with snow white hair, a sign that she was blessed by the forgotten gods and yet her father only saw such a sign as further proof that she was nothing more than a hellspawn abomination. The man tried to drown her shortly after birth, but could not bring himself to end the life of the last living remnant of his wife, and instead he locked her away from the rest of the world. Never once in her life would the father show the girl any form of affection, save for giving the name his wife chose for the girl and thus she would live with the name Karissa Byers.
As she grew, the girl was forced to live in a small room akin to a walk in closet with a slight modification so that food and water could be passed through without the door being opened. And so the child grew in the darkness of this unlit room, yet to her the lack of light was not entirely terrible, as she seemed to have been born with an ability to see in low light situations. For five years this closet and the sparse nourishment that was passed through to her were the only things she knew, not a word or touch, yet when the girl turned five years old things changed. One day a doll was passed through the flap in the door. It was an old, cloth doll, dirty and torn yet it was the first thing aside from what she ate that the girl had ever known. After examining it for a moment the girl hugged it to her chest and began to use her words for the first time, speaking to the doll in a soft, raspy voice with words she had heard spoken through the door.
She spoke more and more to the doll as she grew until one day when she was eleven and the closet space she lived in was becoming more and more cramped some ratty clothing was pushed through the flap and she was told to dress by her father. Not knowing what to do the girl could not dress herself in time and her father opened the door at last and shouted at her before forcing the clothing onto her, and when he saw the doll he picked it up off the ground while yelling a stream of obscenities at her. Having been blinded by the sudden influx of light the girl could not react and she was dragged outside into the moonlight where her father burned her companion right in front of her very eyes. That was the very first time the girl cried, an unknown act which frightened her as well, and once the doll finished burning she was locked into an old shed that had once been an workshop. Scared of the new environment Karissa spent an entire week in a corner of the building only leaving it for the meals that were passed through to her.
She acclimated to the structure though, which was brighter due to a few holes in the buildings structure, and it was in this structure that things began to change for her. One day, a book was passed through the flap, it was not her father that did so and yet she took the children's book and looked through it, teaching herself to read over a long period of time. Now and then another book was pushed through and the girl devoured the knowledge hungrily, never learning the identity of who or what was providing such knowledge though the girl instinctively knew it was not her father. A few of the books showed her how to create items and over the years she began to create dolls to keep her company during the long, lonely waking hours of her life. As she played with these dolls Karissa also began to subconsciously manipulate her chakra while doing so, using threads of energy to move them and give them life. Finally, a commotion was heard at the house and the door was broken down, and light blinded her as a figure entered, the Otokage freeing her from the captivity she had faced and allowing her to explore the much larger world that she never knew.
