In order for one to completely master the shadow perception, it is first essential to master his own shadow. Surely, that was at least what Tora figured, after all, how can one call himself master of shadows without having his personal shadow under his complete control? It's why he decided to dedicate himself that day to completely bring himself to at the very least master his shadow, and perhaps see to mastering some other jutsus, should the time allow it.
Stepping onto one of the roofs in the village, Tora found it to be the perfect place. Since it was tall enough and directly exposed to the sun, the only shadow around would be his own. Or at least the largest one of them all would be his own. After a little bit of sitting in the warm autumn sun, Tora decided it was time to begin his training and bring himself to control his shadow without too much of a fuss. Perhaps he could even communicate with it, which would prove very useful on spying missions.
First, in order to master his shadow, Tora had to animate it, a jutsu he had already learned. The drawback was he had to actually sit tight and control it from afar, which was a very annoying part of it all. Sure, it could spy for him and it could walk around some, but what good would it do if his original body was attacked while sitting and spying with his shadow? It's the reason why the Genin decided to take a step forward and not only cring his shadow to life, but give it it's independence.
Next, once the shadow would rise to life, Tora would have to give it the special little empowerment that would allow it a unique train of thought – meaning the shadow would have it's own sort of will, bound to Tora of course. In order to do that, he would have to review the seals of the Genjutsu, see that they work on smaller shadows and perhaps see how he could train it on his own shadow without harming himself.
At any rate, starting right away was key. After all, how would he animate a shadow that's not there? Sitting around with the sunlight being wasted on others and not trying to use his shadow for a little better purpose would make it a huge waste. Once the sun sets, it's all over and he'd have to continue another day, which meant he had to start right now. "Right! Shadow perception." He said calmly as he sat down, ready to review what he could remember about shadow energy, to understand first how the jutsu works before trying it out.
