Another pull on the fan pumped the air into the flame, stoking it to a higher level, moving it from orange to yellow, but she would have to watch the coals and logs within to make sure she didn’t burn them all out. Leaving the fan for a moment, she moved her way over to the wall where wood and coal were packed against, tight bundles and bags in a neat order. Securing a bag of coal and a bundle of logs, she moved back to the smelter. Tossing a few logs into the opening designed for such, then pouring the coal down the chute designed to keep her from getting burned, she moved back to the fan and prepared to get it hotter then hell in that smelter.

Once again she began to pump the air into the smelter, hitting the fire with high quality oxygen in order to help it grow, as it was a growing flame after all and needed its nutrients. She had to time it right of course, otherwise she ran the risk of blowing the flames out completely if she went too fast, or never getting the flame up to snuff if she went too slowly. This was a critical process in the creation of a weapon or even armor, as this could potentially ruin the materials before one even began to get started. The heat from the smelter was definitely climbing though, as small beads of sweat began to appear on her brow, to which she wiped off with the back of her sleeve and kept on going.

Pumping the fan was definitely hard work, there was no doubt about that, as the sweat was beginning to appear a little more frequently. Once again she pulled the fan handles together, pushing the air into the fire to grant it more heat, feeding the flames that would soon feed her pockets with ryo. Stepping away from the fan, she moved over to look through the hole where the logs would typically go in order to view the flames, pleased with what she was seeing, as they were coming along very nicely indeed. Soon, very soon, the metal would be hot enough to melt, mixing together so that she could pour it into the mold.

As Jack looked at the metal, she wondered exactly what she would make first, the Fan or the Shield. It would be pertinent if she made the shield first, probably, as it would be easier to attach the fan to it in that case, probably with spikes that she would weld into it directly with the excess obdurium. Moving from the open face of the smelter, she moved back to the fan, forcing the end shafts together again, pumping more oxygen into the fire and getting it closer and closer to the correct heat. Already the obdurium was proving problematic, but never the less, she would prevail over the strong mineral.

The flames would soon take on a pale yellowish quality, the fan stoking the fire in a rhythm that would produce a maximum efficiency toward the smelter, was doing its work admirably thanks to Jack coordinating it. Pulling the handles apart, she moved over to check the flame yet again, gazing at it and trying to judge if she needed to do more for it, like add more logs and coal. Deciding that it was probably a good idea, she grabbed another few longs from the bundle she had brought previously, tossing them into the flames to be consumed. Next she grabbed the bag of coals, but she didn’t pour yet, and instead pulled on a lever on the side of the fancy smelter, which dropped the old coals out of the back into a bucket. She then poured the new coals.

With the new coals poured, she moved back over to the fan, pulling the handles together yet again, and hitting the smelter with another blast of oxygen fuel, pumping it up more and making it stronger. A few more of those and the fire would be at the perfect level, insuring that she would be able to witness the metal melting, mixing together in that perfect combination. Already it was glowing a bright white, moments and a few degrees away from melting completely. Wiping the sweat from her brown, leaving smudges of soot on her face as per usual, she continued to work on the flames for a bit more.

Another pull of the handles, the repetitive motion allowing her to be lost in thought, although not deep enough to be distracted from the task at hand. It was more like a second nature to her, able to work without having to be cognizant of her work in the fullest sense. She was a true master, although perhaps not on a legendary level like some of those out there in the world. One day she would be though, too powerful of a blacksmith for the world not to know, a true and absolutely master of the craft! The heat of the smelter was nearly to the correct level, she could feel it on her skin and her face, even though she was not consciously looking for it.

The final tug on the fan for now was at hand, pulling the handles together to put the flame at the correct temperature to melt obdurium, and she could feel the heat before she saw it that it was at the right level. Jack moved to the smelter to watch the process occur, always fascinated with the melting of steel, even when she was a child and was not blacksmithing at all. She could remember the first day she went to the blacksmith with the intent to become an apprentice, watching the fire melt the steel down into a liquid, pouring it into the holding bucket to be dumped into a mold. It was magical.
