Ken was barely able to dodge out of the way when the lightning hit. As it was he was knocked over by the concussive force. Ken got up after the dust cleared and shook his head, clearing it. What the hell was that? No way a simple graduate of the academy could bring THAT much power to bear. Ken was both afraid and a little angry with himself. Ken had been outmatched before, that wasn't the issue, but he had never been outclassed before. Whatever training this kid had been through, it must have been intensive. 

It was too crazy. But the fight wasn't over yet: the two men he'd distracted with kunai and shuriken had recovered and were bearing down on Shiki again. Ken dashed forward and with a roar of fury, Ken closed the distance and drew Bara no Ken in a blaze of speed. The blade slashed neatly through the first attacker's neck, sending his head flying. With a quick change in pace, Ken stabbed the second through the heart. 

"Okay," Ken said to Shiki as he drew his sword from the chest of the second man, hot blood steaming on the blade. "Where the hell did you learn to make lightning? Because that was cool!" No need to let Shiki know Ken was pissed at himself for neglecting his training. He'd have to practice some more...after lunch.

Shiki was pale as a ghost as he wobbled to his feet. He watched in awe as Ken charged the enemies and dispatched them with ease. The body of the men hit the floor within seconds of each other. Shiki wordlessly stood up and gave a weak smile. He had been training lightning releases all day before coming to this part of the city. Shiki felt the adrenaline coursing through his body. He was still light headed. Everything went blurry. Shiki heard kens voice but it sounded like he was underwater. Shiki felt like might pass out at any moment. Shiki hobbled over to a wooden poll that sported a metal transformer. There were powerlines at the top of the poll.

The transformer had an electrical device that was tapped into the current carrying electricity throughout the cloud village. Shiki took his Kunai and stabbed it into the thick, electrified cable. Nearly 700,000 volts of electricity hit his body at once. The lightning entered his body and his body began to turn the electric current into chakra. Sparks flew from the Kunai until Shiki was sated. Pulling the knife from the cable Shiki felt his body come alive with energy again.

Pulling the knife back into his cloak Shiki gave a warm smile. "I'm sorry I didn't quite catch what you said." Shiki said apologetically. He looked up at Ken. Color was back in his face and his eyes were bright with excitement. "You were so cool!" Shiki exclaimed.

Ken watched with detached bemusement as Ken somehow  was able to absorb lightning into his body. What the sweet Amaterasu was with this kid?

"People just keep getting weirder," Ken said, shaking his head while Shiki charged up. While he did that, he retrieved his shuriken and kunai and replaced them into his cloak, using the clothes to wipe the blood off of them and his sword, which he sheathed in a stereotypical manner. 

"I'm sorry,  I didn't quite catch what you said," Shiki said to him as he finished replacing his weapons, "You were so cool!" Ken smiled beneath his mask. This kid may be strange, but he was pretty cool too.

"It was nothing," Ken said, "Now, to see who our mysterious attackers were working for." Ken knelt down and checked the back of their necks. A mark was on the back, a tree surrounded by black flame. Ken remembered seeing this mark when he was younger, on the approved soldiers. "Blackdraft," Ken growled. "I apologise, Shiki," Ken said as he stood up, "These men were after me. You shouldn't have had to put yourself in danger. But I am glad I had you to back me up. Shall we go eat, finally?" Ken's stomach gave a massive growl and he winced under his mask.

Shiki didn't know what Ken was talking about. But him and Ken had fought together. That made him a brother in arms as far as Shiki was concerned. Shiki smiled after Ken had finished apologizing.

"It was nothing." Shiki said bashfully. He had never fought with a partner before.Having someone watching his back was refreshing. Shiki felt his stomach growl at the mention of food. "I'm actually starving." He finally chirped. Shiki peered at the barbecue place several patrons had stuck their heads out to see what was going on. Shiki looked down at his palm. The area that was holding the Kunai was burned and blistering from the hot metal knife. Shiki used his other bandaged hand to wrap his hand.
