History:
If asked, Zakari will claim that he has led a relatively uninteresting life for a shinobi of the Hidden Leaf. And for some part it is true. His parents, both Kedōin, took root in the Village Hidden in the Leaf at the order of the Old Ones, the leaders of their clan, to keep a check on its power. Using their natural shape-shifting abilities paired with their individual talents as shinobi they very quickly made a place for themselves in the Village and retiring at the age of 80. However they soon expressed their desire in raising a child of their own and thus after sacrificing a significant portion of their lifespans they gave birth to the one who would come to identify himself as Zakari. However those of his lineage were not all that common in the Village and at the beginning he faced many difficulties that he would have to overcome.
Before he had a firm grasp of the his abilities to mold flesh he had to keep to a pitiable form that possessed only a maw and skin as pale as snow which prevented him from interacting with others his age lest they scream in terror at his visage. His parents showed him the compassion and love he deserved, understanding his plight as it was once their own, and took special permission from the Academy to tutor him in the respective ways of becoming a shinobi provided he could sit in at the Examination on his own and with no orifice unaccounted for. Zakari would quickly take to these lessons as he had made up his intention to become a shinobi as his beloved parents. He would also rapidly gain more control over the abilities of his clan and was able to forge himself a visage that was his own, along with many others that weren't. It was at the age of 18 that he was able to finally undertake his graduation exam in the Academy and passed with flying colors, receiving his Leaf Village Headband and taking his first steps into the world of shinobi.
At first Zakari chose to take D and C-Rank missions; from carrying groceries to the elderly to searching for lost pets, he made his start from the very bottom. This was also the period of time that he began to train in earnest and develop his techniques as a shinobi. Sadly he did not show much talent in the art of physical combat but he more than made up for it in Genjutsu and Earth style Ninjutsu, adding a wide range of techniques to his arsenal. He further chose to supplement his abilities by taking an internship and the Konoha Hospital where he picked up numerous practical skills such as how to conduct an autopsy as well as chakra based healing techniques. As he started to reach his peak the time for the Chuunin Exams came around and after taking permission from the Kage he set off to the Land of the Sea as the only Leaf Genin participant.
The Exams were attended by several shinobi from various Villages, many of them outstripping the Leaf Genin in terms of experience, knowledge and power. The participants were all separated into various groups and placed inside a maze, their objective was to navigate it and escape. Of course nothing was ever so simple, the participants were stripped of all their weapons and equipment and the maze was beset with riddles and traps for an added challenge. While Zakari and his group did their very best the Exams ended with none being able to escape in the time limit provided. After glumly accepting his defeat he traveled back to Leaf where, to his great surprise, the Hokage revealed that the examiners had recommended him for the Chuunin title after all. Still incredulous at this development he accepted the title and began his new term as a Chuunin.
Back in the Leaf Village the Kedōin began his training once more, learning more complex and deadly jutsu as well as polishing his skills. During this time he took on B-rank missions which consisted of importance than the C and D-rank missions he usually took and bit by bit began to understand how the shinobi world functioned bit by bit. His personality also began to develop considerably as he gained more experience and slowly he began to grow out of his optimistic viewpoint and became a tad more realistic. Another noteworthy event that he took part in was the invasion of the Hokage Tower.
While the invasion was just an emergency threat designed to test the response of the Leaf Village shinobi it was one he had passed, something he had learned to taken pride in as one should rather than loathing the fact that it had been an unnecessary waste of his time, explosives and talents. Deciding he needed a break the Kedōin packed up the essentials and went off travelling as a way to meet new people and blow off some steam. During his vacation he befriended a polar bear, raided a research facility that performed human experimentation and (maybe) had lunch with a ninja from an enemy village. On his way back to the Leaf he escorted a retired Snow Village ninja to the Leaf Village Embassy where he met the new Hokage of the Hidden Leaf, a man by the name of Gosei.
This is where the story of his uninteresting life will end... For now that is.
Personality:
Due to his disfigurement in the childhood years Zakari grew up without many friends. His parents were the ones who provided the most support and compassion during this time as only parents could. That is why his parents are the most important people to him and he holds a special place in his heart for them. He has also developed a strong bond with his recently acquired animal companion Ursa Arcadius, Archduke of the High Bears and considers him a close friend. The noble bear feels the same of him and allows the Kedoin lad to ride him which is an honor only bestowed upon a scant few humans throughout history.
When not on mission the Kedoin can usually be found training new techniques as he enjoys reaching new heights and surpassing his limits. He does not do so out of love for power but rather thinks of it as a form of self-improvement. Another hobby of his is reading and he has quite a collection of books. Novels are his favorite of the action, mystery and adventure genres. However he also enjoys reading just about anything that piques his interest and keeps him entertained and if it teaches him something new then all the better. Zakari enjoys travelling as it is a great way to meet new people and explore the world which results in him often picking missions which will take him outside the Village when able.
Zakari sees labels such as 'good' and 'evil' as philosophical concepts, what could be considered as a 'good' act to some might be seen as the opposite to others. This is why he always tries to see things from various perspectives before deciding what course of action to take. While he doesn't see himself exactly as a 'good' person he does try to help others if able though he doesn't actively go around looking for people in need. One thing he understands is that life is sacred and detests killing without reason. He is the kind who would try to solve a problem without violence and only resorting to it if all other options have been exhausted. Nevertheless even so he is loathe to take a life, especially those of innocents and the weak, favoring to incapacitate them instead.
While Zakari may not have many friends (many would think he does not have any at all) he does enjoy meeting and interacting with new people. He finds it interesting to learn why people act, think and behave the way they do. Those whom he considers interesting, loyal and trustworthy are more likely to earn his friendship than others. He is always on the guard for those who seek to manipulate him or use him for their own benefit under the guise of friendship. Those are the type of people he dislikes and tries to avoid as much as possible. Once his friendship is earned then he remains as a loyal and steadfast ally however once his friendship is betrayed then he is less likely to trust that person again.
Zakari is a realist with a touch of optimist. He knows that the world is not all its cracked up to be. Bad things tend to happen to good people and good things happen to those who don't deserve it. Those in power can do anything they please and the innocent suffer as an unfortunate side-effect. But that doesn't mean that the world has to be like that, there are those who can challenge the status quo and shift things in favor of the weak and oppressed, people like shinobi. The power and skills that they possessed gave them a unique position in the world, the ability to shift the status quo through their actions. And Zakari believes that he is one such shinobi beholden to tilting the balance in favor of good. After all... If he gets to live a comfortable lifestyle with all his needs and desire in check then why not everyone else?
Appearance:
To a Kedōin appearances are a bit like clothes. One can alternate between various combinations of clothing accessories like shoes, shirts and pants and there are no limitations as to whom (or in extreme cases WHAT) you can look like. However most most Kedōin have a default appearance; ones which they assume for their normal, everyday life needs. After most of his childhood years was endured with only a blank sheet of skin for a face and a rudimentary maw Zakari was quite relieved when he finally developed his shape-shifting abilities. After much trial and error he finally developed the visage he uses to this very day.
First he altered the pigmentation of his skin and turned it from paper white to a more healthy looking light brown color, keeping it devoid of any scars, blemishes or acne. Next came the eyes, he settles on a dark brown shade, close to green, for the color of the irides. His nose was nothing remarkable, straight one would call it with narrow nostrils and a pointed tip. The rudimentary maw he used was improved with a full set of straight white teeth and thin lips. To finish it off he commanded his hair to grow until long, dark brown hair draped the sides of his face and reached the nape of his neck. While he toyed with the idea of putting it in a ponytail in the end he decided against it.
Height was a bit important to him and he decided that 5ft 11 inches would fit his requirements. Zakari decided against giving himself a lanky or scrawny physique and settled for a lithe one instead with long slender arms and legs, devoid of body hair which he felt made him look unclean and a flat chest. His hands sported slender fingers with neatly cut nails, reminiscent of those on a pianist or a writer. For weight he altered his body mass by commanding his bone, fat and muscle cells to grow in a specific manner until he weighed around 132 lb (60 kg) an appropriate weight for someone of his build and stature. While his features were more pronounced as masculine if looked at the right light one could see that there were some feminine aspects mixed in as well which made it easy to shift from a male appearance to a female disguise in a pinch.
For clothing Zakari always picked comfort over function though some modicum if function was expected nevertheless. At home Zakari always goes for the bare minimum of a pair of shorts and T-shirt which is as comfortable as it can get with slippers if really needed. If he was ever compelled to go outdoors then he would switch the shorts for pants and slippers for sandals. During the colder days he would dig out and use the thick white scarf his mother knitted for him with a pair off socks and gloves to keep his fingers warm. He also has a tendency to carry a singular kunai with an exploding tag wrapped around the handle on him whenever he leaves the house, his reason being, "Anything can happen and I might need to blow shit up."
For mission he has a completely different attire though some of the elements are the same. He still prefers to wear T-shirts and pants, usually black or dark blue in color. For footwear he alternates between sandals and running shoes; the former for missions within the Village and the latter for missions that would take him farther. A black hooded cloak is also part of his mission wear, with pouches sewn inside to keep his various weapons and impressive ordinance. What can't fit inside his cloak is stored in his butt-packs and assault packs. A Melody Arm fitted with various enhancements is sported on his right arm and his goggles dangle underneath his neck. And finally his Leaf Village headband, the symbol of a shinobi, is worn around his right shoulder.
