“Careful!” As Houkou’s staring contest ended with a swift blow to the stomach, Zuruel immediately stepped in-between the still-stumbling Houkou and the opponent. In this position, Zuruel raised his shield and effortlessly deflected the knife that had just been thrown. Before the ghostly apparition could follow up this attack, the Kedoin charged forwards in order to close the gap. In response to this, the opponent tossed another knife in the air which with the aid of gravity, slowly began to shift into a downwards trajectory and pick up speed as it hurtled towards Zuruel’s head.
With his keen senses more than aware of the threat, Zuruel skidded to a complete halt before raising his shield over his head. As the knife fell, it simply bounced off the shield with a metallic clink before falling harmlessly onto the ground. Before the phantom could capitalize on this new opening, Zuruel swiftly tightened his body and dropped his shield in front of him so that his front was no longer exposed. He then took in a deep breath in order to strengthen his core and brace for the next attack that was to come.
“Nothing?” Zuruel blinked. Although he had correctly anticipated the incoming attack, he had completely failed at predicting the direction it would come from. “W-What!” Zuruel gasped as he spotted the ghostly warrior dash right past him, turn and then take a slash at his back. Upon catching a glimpse of this attack in the corner of his eyes, the Kedoin balanced on his left heel, pivoted his body on the spot and twisted at the hip in order to turn and face the threat with his sturdy iron shield. “Ugh…” Despite his quick reflexes, the blade dug into Zuruel’s shoulder before being stopped by the sturdy iron of the tower shield.
“Houkou! Do something!” As Zuruel pushed the blade outwards and away from his body with his shield, he hoped that Houkou would finally attack the opponent and cease with his strange stares. “Ugh… Damn it…” Zuruel winced as blood oozed out from his right shoulder. Before much else could be done, the Kedoin was forced to brace and tighten his guard as the opponent comboed with a flurry of sword swings. Although each attack individually wasn’t very powerful, the resonation of the metals clashing did put a strain on Zuruel’s injured shoulder. Through sheer force of will, he was manging to keep his guard up. However, this clearly wouldn’t be the case for much longer.

“Pleasure to fight alongside you Houkou. You too Sekizen.” Zuruel didn’t quite know what to make of the man. The term Demon Dog was hardly reassuring, not to mention Houkou’s crimson red eyes seemed to give off a rather intimidating vibe. On the flipside, Houkou certainly did make a great distraction. As he pinned the ghostly opponent, Zuruel took the opportunity to focus on his breathing. Although most of his stamina had been recovered, this was a valuable chance at regaining the rest of it and regenerating all the microscopic tears that had formed along his aching muscles.[Continuing Previous Training]
