History and Backstory:
Greatness, from small beginnings.[/center]
The life of a Venator is not much different than the life of another Venator. You hunt, you kill, you get paid. There are those however, that choose to follow a different path then a traditional Venator. Many Venators are heartless. No coin? No help. Life is a business, and everyone’s problem is a chance to profit for them. This, is where Koori’s story differs from many Venators, and for many reasons. But, where to start…..
Koori’s younger years are blurry, and told to him differently from different sources. Seeing as the Venator can’t remember anything past the age of four (and to be fair, neither can much of anyone else) these accounts are all he has to go on. Koori was born as a Hoshigake, a member of the shark clan, and as such, had the ritual of The Shark placed upon him at a infantile age. His clan lived peacefully for many years, but not as shinobi as many do these days, but rather as hunters. Living in the land of Bears, they took contracts out like bounty hunters, and executed for the sake of coin. The Hoshigake were perfect hunters since they had the ability to sense heat, had night vision, among other things that made their clan unique.
Like many ways of living in those days, it was dangerous. Eventually, they clan took a contract up on a person they, for all intents and purposes, shouldn’t have. It was a Prince, but the notice made no mention of it. To keep a rather long story short, he clan killed the prince in the cover of night, but the royal family of the Bird country for whom felt robbed of their kin, would not remain silent on this assassination. They ordered a small, but sacred order of monster hunters, called The Venators. They were excellent at what they did, hunting any and all kind of monster, even ghosts and specters were not beyond the capabilities of the right Venators. Now depending on who you ask, Hoshigake are not monsters. To many, however, they are.
The Venators are one such people who felt this way. They hunted and found Koori’s homeland in the Bear country. With ease, in fact. Venators were after all exceptional hunter in their own right. They entire village got massacred. In cliche fashion, his entire clan, or atleast that portion of it was wiped clean off the face of the planet. The Venators were studies of all types of monsters and creatures in the world, and had every potion, oil, and Jutsu ready for the assault. The Hoshigake had no chance. Koori, was but a newborn child. And while he was indeed a Hoshigake, he posed no threat to the Venators in his crib, barely able to breath never mind fight on his own. While the Venators were operating under their own contract, the contract said nothing of any left over children, nor what to do with them.
Jackyl, the eldest Venator in the hunting party, was alerted to the existence of Koori. Rather then have him slain, Jackyl saw opportunity. The Venators were always looking to add to their ranks, but it was difficult to find those willing to endure the grueling training period and most who are are too old, or untrainable completely. Jackyl took this chance to keep the Hoshigake child for himself, to train as a Venator. A Monster who hunted other Monsters. It did seem cruel to think about, but Jackyl saw it as him giving a dead in the water child a second chance at life, and choose to train him at the school of the Bear.
-Timeskip-
Many years had passed, and Koori's training had gone well. As a child, it was easy to mold his mind and his way of viewing to be in line with that of other Venators. Jackyl used this to his advantage as he trained the young Lizard to become an efficient hunter in his own right. While Jackyl didn't like Koori using his shark clan abilities during hunts or while he trained, but when unsupervised Koori did as he pleased. The clan abilities were difficult to learn on his own, but not impossible. While it took time, it was well worth it. His clan abilities coupled with Venator skills made him a monster (both literally and figuratively) on the battle field. Other Venators looked at him with disgust because deep down they knew what he was, and feared he would one day turn on them, but Koori viewed many if not all of them as Brothers, and would never do such a thing.
When Venators train, they start off with one Sword, and only gain their second through training, and earning it. Koori earned his on a mission to the Land of Thunder to slay a thunder drake. Most Venators utilize two swords during hunting. A steel Sword, and a Silver sword. One for monsters, and another for humans, or as Koori always liked to say "Monster on the inside". He was rewarded with it after the mission from Jackyl, as well as a number of other useful goodies, including his medallion. Nothing more than a hunk of metal that hangs from Koori's neck, his Venator medallion like many other in the same profession is a symbol of the school you were trained at. The school of Bear medallion fit like a glove.
-Timeskip-
Many years later, Venators were not looked at as they once were. Once revered monster slayers, now many saw them as religious zealots. Those who impose their beliefs on people. Maybe some of them were, but this was never Koori. Koori always felt all living things in life had the capacity to do good things. Even "monsters", if given the chance. Others in his practice didn't see it that way, of course. Especially after Jackyl, their schools eldest member even to this day, was murdered by a monster. Jackyl didn't leave the school grounds of Mojave Morhen very often in his later years, and with good reason. He was aging, even with the Venator mutations his body was starting to go on him. He was old when he picked up Koori all those years ago, and the time hadn't treated his body with care.
A group of shinobi unleashed a carrier of wyverns loose in Mojave Morhen. Many Venators, Koori included, were gone, out completing contracts and making money, as per the trade. Jackyl was alone, unaware in his tower room. The wyvern ripped the window off the tower wall. The violent shaking woke Jackyl up but it was too late. He lunged for his sword near the end of his bed, but the wyvern proved too quick for the aging Venator. With a few claw attacks and a large bite, Jackyl's life ended. The Venators who lived the battle with the multiple wyverns cleaned out the serpent school of any more dragonly threats. A bon fire was lit, and a proper funeral was given to the long ruler of Mojave Morhen, Jackyl. With his death, a new ruler would rise to take his place.
-Timeskip-
Koori had, despite all odds, been elected the new ruler of the bear school of Mojave Morhen. He had mastered all of Jackyl's teachings, as well as a number of fighting styles to boot. He was well respected, despite many students believing he himself was a monster that needed slaying. Koori offered safe passage to any and all students that wished to leave and no longer train under him because of his heritage. Many did leave, but many more stayed. Koori never was able to ask Jackyl about his origins, and so it was never revealed to him how he came to be a Venator, but it mattered not. Koori would always view Jackyl as a father figure and mentor. Koori never took on an apprentice of his own. Never felt like he was capable, even if he truly was. He carried out his duties as a Venator ever still, meeting lots of people and monsters alike along the way.
Most monster deserve to be dealt with, especially spectres. Koori had a certain disdain for spectres. Indiana Jones had snakes, Geralt of Rivia had portals. Koori had spectres. But beasts, such as wolves, werewolves, bears, and other animals or "monster" of that ilk were not the enemy to Koori. He believed there was good in all creatures, you just had to find it. Similarly to humans, some were good, but most were bad. Koori made friends with both "monsters" and humans alike along his journey, meeting shinobi, samurai's and even bar brawlers. Some shared their secrets and techniques with him, especially the shinobi named Alex, who taught him how to channel chakra to walk on water and stand along walls, as well as the fabled shunshin no jutsu. His Samurai friend, a female by the name of Miranda, taught him Burendono Kenshini, the powerful sword art of meditation. Meditation was a great way to heal wounds, as well as pass time when you needed to be patient. Others taught him Protegra, and even how to unlock a few of the celestial gates.
-Timeskip-
Something Koori had never really thought about in his life as a Venator and a Hunter, was the life of a shinobi. He had encountered many shinobi. They were sneaky, stealthy and tricky to track, very talented. He was always curious about them, and how they did what he felt was magic. All this and more would become apparent to him in due time, including a better understanding of his clan, as the shinobi life as a whole.
Contracts come and go in the life of a Venator, but this one, around the age of 18 would go on to change his life, presumably for the better. As a member of Hoshigake clan, he traditionally never took missions in Yukikagure. It was cold. Koori was mostly cold blooded. He disliked it there. But he took the contract anyway. The pay was too good to pass up. Another noble with too much coin lining his pockets to take care of this monster himself. So the contract was made up, and evidently, no one could find the monster. So, with each unsuccessful try, the bounty went up and up and so on. Eventually Koori found and accepted the bounty.
To keep a long story short, what he found was no monster. It was actually a shinobi, who had been lost and injured after a mission had gone terribly wrong. Koori used his expert sensory and tracking abilities to find and track the shinobi. Her name was Alexis. She had been stealing food and resources as best she could while injured, this included pain medication, but the contract posters house wasn't a hospital either, and she found herself stuck with a broken arm. Koori met her in combat as she expected him to be a enemy. Koori wasn't surprised by this, but did not kill her. He would get paid so long as she promised to just go away and move, and stop stealing from the contract posters house. After little convincing, and an agreement to escort her back to her home village, they were off.
Koori brought her to her home village of Yukikagure. He was met with heavy resistance, which makes sense she he wasn't a registered citizen or shinobi of the village. The Yukikage met him at the gates, who is not the same one that resides within the Kage Tower today, and after hearing how he went out of his way to help her come home instead of just killing her which he could have, the Kage decided he would thank Koori. He allowed him within the village walls, and had the chefs within the village prepare a feast worthy or his deeds. They all ate like kings, and shortly after, Alexis got the medical treatment she deserved and much needed. Koori stayed the night, as requested by the Yukikage.
The next morning, Koori was about the leave and be on his way, but some loose ends needed to be tied up. Koori knew the location of one of the famed hidden shinobi villages. That was precious information to have. He could easily turn around and simply sell this information if he so choose, and he was a hunter after all. Instead something else entirely happened. The Yukikage had a conversation with him at the gates of the village. He showed him the famed Ninjutsu techniques made famous by ninja like him. He also revealed more about Koori's clan techniques, and the rarity of the Hoshigake clan. He offered to help him learn more about who is he is, and what he is.
There was but one stipulation. He had to become a shinobi of the hidden snow village. Koori only asked that he think about it, the Kage's reply was that he remain in snow to do said thinking about it. Koori agreed. Overnight, the Venator had decided that the allure of discovering more about himself and his clan and this famed ninjutsu was too hard to pass up. The kage also had previously assured him that he would not have to give up his lifestyle as a venator and could still pursue his lifes work as a Witch Hunter on the side if he so desired. Hell, there may even be some need for it from the village itself. Koori worried about the pay of the village missions, but was again reassured by the Yukikage that pay would come to him for completion. There was nothing left to think about. After a few training exercises, the Venator had become a shinobi.
-Timeskip-
He was about 24 now, and had been a Genin for five years. He had taken on a number of difficult missions and learned most things directly from the previous Yukikage, but had come to a point where he could teach himself most jutsu and clan techniques so long as he possessed the scrolls for them. His chakra molding had come forward, and he had all around grew as a person, doing what he loved. A big test however, was coming. The chuunin exams.
He went to the Chuunin exams and was way stronger than 90% of the other Genin there. He was also much MUCH older. Most Genin first trying to become Chuunin were about 15 maybe 16 and Koori was 24. He won his tournament, and came home to Snow and was awarded Chuunin rather easily. Koori had an advantage in life as a Hunter though and a former leader of a Venator school. He began shortly there after leading his own team, though most of them died from one reason or another. One of his team mates died being reckless, another from disease, and another from Treason (He was hunted down as a Missing Ninja). Towards the end of his Chuunin tenure, he didn't take any more Genin as pupils, and instead decided to take missions and focus his time on Venator Hunts.
-Current-
The time had come. Koori had aided Yuki, and it had now become his home. He had informed the school of the Bear Venator's that he was officially stepping away from the School. He would always remember his upbringing and still be a Venator, but his new home beckoned him. He was now a Jonin within Yukikagure. He took on a mission the Newest Yukikage had given him and had no idea it was actually a test to see if he was ready to become a Jonin. He passed with flying colors. It was an escort mission, there were no casualties. He is now 28 years old. An old fart depending on who you ask. After losing almost his whole team minus one who retired, as a chuunin, he feels like its finally time to revive his cell, and begin training new pupils. Koori wondered what type of up and coming talent Yuki had to offer, and was excited for the opportunity.......
