*Flash back continued. * Shiki looked up from his very familiar spot on the floor of the mat. Looking upwards at his master with new eyes. All this time. All these years he was holding back against him? Every swing he took against him was metered in control. Shiki looked at his master and was frustrated and in awe at the same time. How could someone move so fast, and hit so hard. How could he have done so much and still be outclassed by an old man. Shiki's mind went back to every form rehearsal. All the hours he spent practicing in the dojo.
Shiki looked at the master and went to reach again for his sword only to have his master kick the bokken and sent it flying across the mat. "Your time practicing with the sword is over for now Shiki. Your technique and form are adequate. They require much more practice but that will come with mastery over your body. Something you won't be able to achieve until you master yourself. Your form is good Shiki... But you lack the power to become a master of the sword arts. To become a sword saint you must strike with the conviction of one.
Shiki stood up and watched as his master moved over into a different room of the dojo. Inside were hundreds of metal poles that aligned the ground training area. Shiki walked into the room full of wooden poles and metal rods. Shiki looked around and waited for his master to give him instructions. Shiki paused and looked around as he waited for his master to start with the next part of the lesson. He grabbed a hold of his hands stretched out in front of him and cracked his knuckles.
Taking a low stance he stepped forwards and began striking at the wooden poles. As he stepped forwards and started striking the wooden posts with his forearms and his palms. With every swing Shiki saw the master send the poles rotating around in a frenzy. As the poles would rotate it became a need for the master to step behind the and underneath the spinning poles. Shiki watched as the master moved with such grace and fluidity through the spinning wooden beams.
As he would hit one with such force he would somehow find his footing through the spinning strike targets and navigate them all the while keeping his strikes fluid and powerful. With every strike the movements he would need to keep his stance become more elaborate. His body would need to move and change his stances all the more elaborately. When the master was finally finished with his movements the entire rooms wooden poles had been moved. Shiki looked on with awe.
