The ground beneath Zuruel crunched under the weight of his sturdy shoes. Although the knee-high grass did make it impossible to see what hid below, naturally the sounds suggested that there was an abundance of dried leaves scattered along the forest floor. An unfortunate consequence of the season. “So much for being stealthy.” Lady shrugged as her black canine form created double the amount of noise as her partner. “We will manage.” He replied as he adjusted the dark grey cloak stretched all the way from his shoulders to his knees.

“Will we though?” Lady snarled, the act of which causing the branches of a nearby tree to shake slightly. Most likely a fleeing animal. “If the predators of the forest can track us so easily, then how well will we fare against other Ninja?” In response, Zuruel simply freed his right hand from his cloak and used it to adjust his vibrant hair which shifted from blue near the front to a glowing shade of red near the back. If there truly were any other humans stalking the duo, then they would find this to be the Kedoin’s most striking feature amidst a rather contrasting dull choice of dark coloured clothing.

“Who would bother to follow someone as odd as me?” Lady snickered at the comment as she began to sniff the air. All around her, she sensed flowers, grass, all manner of trees and most important of all, the scent of fish which suggested that a waterfall was nearby. “I hear it. The sound of water crashing into rocks.” The words seemed to confirm Lady’s theory. The duo were close to their destination. At this rate, they would just about reach it before sunset. “I hear something…” Lady perked up at the words and readied her claws. “More wild animals?” She questioned. As useful as her sense of smell was, it paled in comparison to Zuruel’s heightened sense of hearing. For now, she could do little else other than pause and wait for the source of Zuruel's curiosity to either leave or approach her radius of detection.

They can continue to train their ability to pinpoint the location of a sound to increase the distance it can be pinpointed from by ten meters each time, capping off at fifty meters.

[Wolf of the Falls]

Axel would whistle low as he traveled through the plain listening to the wind brush through the grass and over the trees. Rey laid on his shoulder as Axel took another one of his walks seemingly endlessly spanning out along this flat coastal area. His clothing mostly black were a jacket jeans and boots with a white shirt under it while a turtle-like bracer sat on his left arm and a normal of blades adorned his body.

Up ahead he would squint a bit as Axel's glowing red eyes caught site of someone and something else, he couldn't make out the other from so far away. With a shrug he would continue over while waving his right hand toward them before grinning once he was close enough. "What's up? Didn't think I'd run into anyone so far out."

Zuruel’s head instantly twisted towards the right the moment his ears caught sound of some sort of whistling. In this position, his eyes scanned the area with caution as he reached for the handle of his katana underneath his long flowing cloak. However, before much else could happen, the sense of danger in the air seemed to evaporate almost instantly the moment the source of the whistling made itself known to the duo. “I could say the same. I assumed this forest was well-isolated.” The Kedoin shrugged as he pulled his hand away from his weapon. If this man was a threat, he most likely would have attacked long before introducing himself.

“Are you a ninja?” Zuruel questioned as he inspected the man’s body for a headband. For the moment, however, the Kedoin couldn’t help but have his attention drawn away from any headbands and instead, towards to this man’s strange companion. “Interesting wolf you have there.” Clearly, Zuruel was referring to the colour of the wolf’s fur. Was it natural or dyed? Either way, Zuruel held his tongue out of fear that the man may consider the question rude. “I am Zuruel. My companion and I are in search of a waterfall… Do you visit these lands often? If so, perhaps you would be kind enough to help us. The waterfall we search for would be one that wasn’t here before. Quite literally, it would have popped up over night.”

Lady sighed while keeping a close watch on the newcomer and his pet. She always did hate how blunt Zuruel was. Even more so when it meant that he was sharing far more information than others needed to know. “What about you young one, notice anything strange in the forest?” Using her telepathy, Lady spoke directly into the mind of the wolf with green fur. Although she chose not to speak to the man, most likely, the wolf’s owner would begin to notice his companion acting strange as it picked up on Lady’s supernaturally kind and welcoming aura.

Axel saw the man prepped for battle as he got closer but he disregarded it as he drew closer and he relaxed. As he asked if he was a ninja he would nod and open his jacket showing the headband was secured within his jacket like a badge. Though as he commented about Rey Axel would grin and reach back scratching his ear. "Yeah freed the little guy a long time ago, a group of people were poaching animals with strange fur."

The man told him his name was Zuruel and that he and his canine were looking for a waterfall and asked if Axel himself was familiar with the area. "No, I'm sorry to say I'm not but I could help you look if you want."

As Axel grinned hoping to be helpful Rey tilted his head feeling the voice in his mind as she asked him if he knew about anything. Rey hoped down from Axel's shoulder to sit in front of her while looking at the dirt for a moment in thought before looking at her and shaking his head. A faint whine audible as apology for not having more info for the pure white canine.

Zuruel grinned as the man revealed his headband. Having been birthed and raised away from ninja villages, the symbol etched onto the metal was foreign to the Kedoin. However, with this being the land of Waterfalls, it didn't take much of a guess to assume which village this man hailed from. “Interesting.” The man’s friendly demeanour and comment about saving his companion from poachers suggested that he definitely did not mean the duo any harm. A friendly expression plastered onto Lady’s face also seemed to confirm that theory.

“Looks like we are back to square one.” This time, Lady’s voice poured into the minds of everyone in the area including the Wolf’s master. Whether the ninja knew it or not, this was a sign that Lady somewhat trusted him. “Randomly searching each waterfall one by one is getting us nowhere.” Lady shrugged as she observed the smaller wolf’s mannerisms. Much like his master, the wolf seemed to exude an aura of kindness that only Lady sensed. “We shall take you up on your offer then.” Zuruel decided to speak up as he lead the group towards the waterfall he sensed 50m away. If nothing else, he hoped that the man would be able to instantly identify something strange about the water or perhaps the formation of rocks if such a thing made itself apparent to him.

“A word of warning.” Zuruel’s expression suddenly grew stern. “If we do come across what I am searching for, I must ask that you immediately leave. If my theory is correct, then the landmark in question will likely attract danger.”

Axel would cringe a little hearing the voice of the moon dog in his head before rubbing it. The sudden intrusion wasn't exactly unwelcome, just shocking. As she seemed to complain Axel watched her close seeing that she wasn't a typical wolf like any of his, regardless of their gorgeous fur. It was Zuruel's voice that bought his gaze back up accepting Axel's offer to help out. With a nod and a smile he would walk along side the man while Rey nuzzled Lady's leg and walked beneath her like a green shadow. "It's nice he's found a friend."

Although the sudden warning from the man confused Axel explaining that he should fall back if they found the waterfall. "Eh, don't worry about it, I've lived here a long time and survived a lot worse." While it was entirely true Axel wasn't about to admit that he wasn't exactly human to someone he had just met, in the heat of battle sure, but not for shits and giggles.

Lady snickered as a disturbed expression possessed the man the moment her words reached his mind. She always did enjoy witnessing how mortals reacted to her powers. “That’s Moon Dogs for you. Always attracting canine-attention.” Zuruel stretched while leading the group towards the sounds of water crashing into rocks. From the intensity of the vibrations hitting his eardrums, he knew it wasn’t far. The only question now was going to be was this the waterfall in question?

“By the way, I never got your name.” After a few more minutes of striking up conversation and dodging all manner of greenery, a clearing finally gave way to a waterfall surrounded by trees which almost seemed to cage it in. The only real clear entrance into the area appeared to be near the face of the waterfall where it continued as a small river with gaps of land on either side. “The danger we face isn’t from this country, nor even this world. If you’re insistent on staying, I suggest you stay on guard at all times.” At the end of his sentence, Zuruel followed the river all the way to the waterfall before inspecting it closely.

“The water is flowing upwards…” He mused as he tossed a nearby rock into the water and watched it travel upwards. This was it. The fact Lady began to growl viciously seemed to confirm that theory. “This is it. Be careful.” Suddenly, things grew eerily quiet. A sensation of being watched swept over everyone in the group as tree branches and bushes began to twitch strangely in a manner that couldn’t be due to the wind. Axel’s wolf likely wouldn’t smell or hear anything, however, if either him or his master were paying enough attention, they just about might spot pairs of rounded yellow eyes peeking through the branches and shrubbery.

"Axel, got it memorized?" The red head would tease the man as he asked for his name before grinning while they walked through the trees, Axel's hearing lead him forward as he followed the sound of water. The sound lead them to a large clearing with a waterfall at the far side, Axel tilted his head while his eyes took in the strange phenomenon. The pool of the waterfall itself was raised up like the water had burst out of the ground rather than hitting the ground and the stream leading to/from the waterfall pool was too small.

As Zuruel made his way to the pool and commented about it Axel would create a few seals and his body would glow with a black and red aura that would quickly split to one of red and one of black leaving two copies of the Inuzuka. The crimson Axel would reach back gripping the large blade on his back and rev the handle letting it glow bright as he drew it. Meanwhile Rey would move back to Axel jumping up into the Black one's hoodie while both were ready to fight.

[Skulking Shinzu]

“Axel was it? Be careful. With enough brute force you can subdue these things… However, only this can kill them.” The watchful eyes focused on the two Axels before they all suddenly darted to stare at Zuruel as a black aura filled his out-stretched right hand. A moment later, a seal on his wrist lit up and banished the darkness to reveal a pitch-black blade littered with etchings and all manner of intricate designs. Most eye-catching of all, however, was the fact that the blade ended in three jutting spikes which were reminiscent of an axe… or key even.

“Here they come!” Lady warned everyone in the group as the sight of Zuruel’s weapon sent the watchful creatures into a frenzy. Suddenly, five small shadowy creatures threw themselves out from the trees and charged at the Kedoin. The rest, much calmer, cautiously peeked out from the shrubs and slowly crawled towards the Axels from 10m away and from all directions. Three for the black Axel and another group of three for the red. Each despite being identical, behaved rather oddly. Their heads and limbs twitched eerily and their large yellow eyes never moved away from their targets. “Don’t let them approach! Their claws are dangerous!” Lady bore her fangs. She never did like the 'shadow demons'.

[Wolf of the Falls]

Axel watched as the black glittering blade formed from nowhere, a unique and different weapon compared to what Axel had seen. Regardless as the darkness grew restless the Crimson Axel revved the handle of his blade making flames erupt down the edge, a second rev would make the blade glow red from the heat seething off of it, a third and final rev would make the blade a literal pillar of flame in his hand. "You should duck." Axel would warn while the Black Axel crouched low to the ground.

Once Zuruel and Lady were low enough the Crimson Axel would turn and spin while sending a surge of sharp wind chakra long the flames making them roar before expelling a 25 meter long arc/ring around them eviscerating and incinerating the plant life to destroy any hiding spots for the shadows while the combined B and A rank attacks should've done at least something to the darkness. As the wave passed though his companions would see that the Black Axel had taken on the form of a metallic wolf.

Zuruel and Lady took a step back as Axel unleashed an inferno from the edge of his blade. “Haven’t we seen that weapon before?” Lady mused as she watched the flames eat away at the greenery before striking at four of the shadowy creatures. On contact, the flames seemed to distort their forms and disintegrate their figures, leaving behind nothing more than small balls of darkness. As for the two remaining creatures, they appeared to have dodged the attack by flattening themselves and shifting into puddles of shadowy ooze.

Moments later, the puddles seemed to dash forward until one was in front of the crimson Axel and one behind. Abruptly, a clawed arm then popped out from the two puddles like a portal with the intent of slashing at Axel’s legs. Zuruel, meanwhile, was having similar troubles. With the aid of his swift swordplay, he had managed to dispatch of three of the creature by slicing through them like butter. Unlike Axel, these fallen creatures didn’t seem to leave behind any shadowy orbs. The two remaining, however, had also sunk away into puddles and appeared to be hiding while circling Zuruel and waiting for a chance to strike. “How annoying.” He grumbled as he waited patiently for an opportunity to dispatch them.

[Wolf of the Falls]

As four of the creatures were reduced to black orbs the Crimson Axel threw his hand out firing out tendrils wrapping around them like a cocoon and sealing their cores(?) within so they couldn't reform. Although the others had sunk into the ground to attack Axel from beneath none of the pack were unaware and as the Crimson Axel clicked his teeth both the Black Axel and Rey would rush past him as spiraling drills completely rending the shadows to pieces while the black wolf would send two more lengths of wire to ensnare the two new kills.

After a quick scan around the area the Crimson Axel would return the blade to his back and check on Zuruel before moving the six cocooned orbs over to him so he could cut through their cores and dispel the shadow creatures. "Handy weapon, wouldn't mind having one." Axel mused out loud grinning to Zuruel giving him his due respect.

[Skulking Shinzu]

“Oh?” Zuruel smirked as he watched Axel lash out and cocoon the six shadowy orbs. “Quite the resourceful fellow.” Axel’s hunch was correct. If he completely surrounded the remnants, they would have no space to reform. Without wasting a moment, Zuruel dashed forward and slashed at Axel’s handiwork, the act of which completely eliminating the six remnants. As for the two remaining puddles that were attacking the Kedoin earlier… They appeared to simply slip away amidst the shrubbery and escape into the distance for some unknown reason the moment their brethren disintegrated.

“Should we hunt them down?” Lady shrugged at her companion’s remark to indicate that they weren’t worth the trouble. “Very well then.” Zuruel then focused his attention on Axel. “A vanquisher of evil always comes in handy when fighting… Evil.” Zuruel began to brood over his words as he stared into his pitch-black weapon. “This world craves a hero worthier than I.” A solemn expression then swept over the Kedoin as he glanced at Lady. “I suppose he’ll do. Whether a Keyblade will accept him or not is another matter.” She commented back as she stared into Axel’s general vicinity. Clearly she was looking at something intangible. His aura.

[Wolf of the Falls]

After Zuruel had vanquished the cores both Axels and Rey watched the shadow puddles as they made a run for it however the black wolf launched two tendrils straight for them piercing into the shadow puddle and the ground, although no one knew if it would matter. A low annoyed growl would echo from the man and the strange wolf seeing their prey get away. The crimson Axel would glance back as Zuruel spoke up but seeing Lady shrug made Axel sigh and set the Red Queen back into place across his back.

Although after that he made a comment about the weapon being great for fighting what it was meant to fight. The words confused him a bit but his next words about the world needing a more worthy hero made Axel sigh and rub his neck as Lady said her part calling the weapon a Keyblade. "Look, I'm far from a saint. Words like evil and hero get thrown around a lot but everything is a matter of perspective."

To make his point Axel would rev the blade on his back creating a stream of flame along the edge. "To some fire is salvation, it's warmth, safety, a means for food. To others it is destruction, an all-consuming beast that blackens whatever it touches."

Then Axel would move the blade over his shoulder and level it towards Zuruel but both he and Lady could tell he had no ill-intent in the action. "Do what you can and what you find as 'good' and you'll be worthy, what kind of fire rests in your heart? Find the answer and get it memorized." With his words said Axel would grin and twist his wrist using the momentum to reset the blade onto his back while also quenching the flames before teasing the man. "Though that is a nice blade"

Lady couldn’t help but snicker and roll her eyes at Zuruel as Axel brought up the fact that he considered himself no saint. “He’s quite like you then. I remember you giving the same speech just before a Keyblade found itself into your hands.” If the Kedoin could blush out of embarrassment, he probably would at that moment. Luckily for him, being a Kedoin meant the ability to suppress such non-essential bodily functions. “Either way, Keyblades choose their own masters. Whether you are worthy or not is up to it.”

Zuruel glanced back at the waterfall and stared at it intently. Clearly, he was analysing something Axel couldn’t ‘see’. “Can you sense it? Something big came through here.” Zuruel nodded to suggest that he had already came to that conclusion all on his own. That very fact seemed to cause Lady to smile. “Up for a hunt Axel? I cannot promise anything, but a nice blade just might make itself known to you if you’re lucky.” At the end of his sentence, the Kedoin scanned the area with squinted eyes. Something felt off.

“No snapped branches, no footprints… Not even a single wounded animal.” Heartless are normally beings driven solely on instinct. At least, that’s the way Zuruel understood it. To him, there was no way that such a large creature could conjure itself into this world, let alone this area of the forest without leaving behind some sort of tracks. “I’m at a loss.” Zuruel stared at the sky. “Perhaps it flew upwards and over the trees… But that would be too obvious. I assume if it did that, the locals would have spotted a strange winged creature in the sky?” Clearly, the question was aimed at Axel.

Apparently, the blade had its own will and chose its wielder so only those who were worthy could use it, or one, he wasn't sure which was appropriate. Although just after, Zuruel and Lady both looked over the strange waterfall before the man asked Axel if he was up for a hunt and the insinuation that he himself may get a blade. The Inuzuka thought about it breifly as his partner scanned the area musing about the state of the area.

As he mentioned no immediate trace of the creature that had appeared Axel rubbed the back of his neck thinking for himself while his split and Rey laid on the ground at his feet. "Most likely they would have, but it sounds like you're assuming its animalistic, what about if it's smart enough to hide itself or become incorporeal? I've even heard stories of creatures that can jump through planes of existence to hunt form the other side."

Zuruel glanced at Lady who then responded to the gesture with a shrug. Neither had fought a Heartless with intelligence before. Except for one of course which was sealed away for at least another few lifetimes. “It isn’t him. However, that Cerberus we once fought was somewhat intelligent. If I remember correctly, it commanded a pack of death dogs to attack a nearby village…” Zuruel rubbed his chin as he took in the rest of Axel’s words. It made sense. The creature the group was searching for likely wasn’t as intelligent as a human. That being said, there was nothing to suggest that it couldn’t be less animalistic than the cannon-fodder Heartless the group had just dealt with.


“Incorporeal creatures are tricky… However, intense-enough Chakra can still damage them. The only question now is how do we find it.” Zuruel glanced around the surroundings before focusing on Axel. “We have several options. Are there any nearby villages or camps? The creature will likely be drawn to dense congregations of human souls.” Lady then interrupted. “Of course, moths sometimes draw themselves towards one powerful flame rather than at a sea of weak ones. Like you, are there any other ninja in the area that may be training? These creatures can sometimes sense Chakra and mistake it for soul energy.” Being new to these lands, it was clear that the duo were relying on Axel’s judgement.

As Zuruel spoke Axel's stance hardened noticeably while the wolves stood at the ready. He knew about death dogs and he wouldn't stand for any of their kind in the land of waterfalls. As the man spoke again he said that they were drawn to intense chakra but then asked if there were any villages or settlements nearby that would draw the creature's attention followed by Lady's comment about other shinobi of high soul power.

"No, there aren't many places people live in this region due to the terrain. However if it needs a beacon..." Axel would leave off as Rey would hope off the black wolf and move to Lady's side while the wolf itself moved beside Axel. With a deep breath both would allow their soul energy to explode from their bodies as a column of black and crimson flames. In truth Axel didn't have much in terms of soul abilities so he had nothing to use it on. "I Burn."

As the abnormal flames bathed the area in otherworldly light each of them would watch every direction ready and waiting for their quarry to come. Axel himself would weave a set of seals in preparation for the battle to come.

Zuruel smirked as strange flames erupted with the aid of Axel’s soul energy. In truth, Zuruel was impressed. Although his experiences with the supernatural had allowed him to tap into abilities such as splitting his soul into half or even using soul energy to undo damage, he had yet to harness it in a manner that allowed him to achieve offensive feats such as Axel. “That’ll do.” Lady switched to an offensive stance. Being blessed with the ability to sense nearby soul power, she knew even better than Zuruel that Axel’s plan was going to work. The only question now was when would the creature take the bait?

Cautiously, Zuruel turned around so that he was facing the opposite direction to Axel. This way, he could watch his ally’s flank. “There…” He mumbled as his keen sense of hearing picked up on movement. “We are surrounded…” As this point, the foes were close enough for Axel to notice with eyesight alone. All around the group, branches swayed and pairs of yellow eyes peeked out from bushes and the sides of tree trunks. However, unlike before, the creatures appeared to be much taller and far too large to be able to hide themselves as well as the smaller Heartless that had been easily dispatched earlier.

“How many are there…” Lady shrugged. Although she could sense the creatures, this many clustered together all around the group in a ring formation made it impossible to count their numbers individually. “Careful… These might not be the creature we are seeking…” Lady interrupted to finish Zuruel’s sentence. “But they are still tough. Especially in these kinds of numbers.” An ominous wind then swept through the trees to reveal even more of the creatures hiding in plain sight. How did they manage to sneak up on the group without making a single sound? Either way, the smallest of actions now was going to trigger a war.

As the ring of inky blackness began to form around them in shapes emerged Axel's beacon would fizzle out while appraising their quarry. Innumerable, unknown, surrounded. With a low growl Axel would be aware of Zuruel's movements while Rey jumped back atop the Black Wolf. After one more quick glance around them Axel would let out a breath before grinning. After the words had left his lips an immense of wire shot out of Axel's body weaving in between all of the Neo-Shadows aiming to entangle them and raise them off the ground. Right after the wire had left his body he would activate the jutsu he had prepared and a large blast of smoke would fill the area briefly as both Zuruel and Lady would feel the ground rumble. A heavy growl would come from within the smoke as Axel's body would tense and become more powerful before he would lunge into the air clearing the smoke and revealing a Gargantuan olive and tan Three-Headed Wolf.

The beast would swiftly twist its body into a ripping saw as the rotation itself pulled all of the ensnared creatures into his tearing vortex as he swiftly wheeled around Zuruel and Lady attempting to wipe out the reminding shadows and even the pools they came from. The act itself would fill the air with the screeching of his claws tearing through earth and stone before he would end the rotation and come to a skidding halt 10 meters away from Zuruel. All the while his wires would ensnare the black cores and pull them over to his partner so he could cut them down.
