James hiked to the outskirts of the village. His feet deftly guided him from rock to rock. The mountainous area was known to be treacherous in the event of stormy weather, but the sun had been shining brightly all afternoon. The genin had made his way to a more flat area that had been carved out by man during the time the village was first settled. Trees lined the area, and a small dojo was located about twenty meters away from him.
Approaching the dojo, James activated his blood limit. This gave him knowledge of all the metal within the area due to his mastery of the kyoudo blood limit. The dojo had many swords and naginata on display, and in various places for storage, but there was one obvious mistake his would be ambusher had made; they wore a metal hair clip. Deducing that this was his sensei, James knew that she would have something planned to test him.
James walked through the door of the dojo and hastily postured himself in the direction of the hair clip. It had been a ruse of course. James quickly cursed himself for not seeing it coming. His sensei had been training him in the art of swordplay for a long time, and she was well aware of what his capabilities were. James stared down a hair clip adorned dummy as a wooden training sword rushed to the back of his neck.
With only a second to react, James anticipated an attack to the head or neck area coming from behind so that his sensei could gloat, and turn the situation into a lesson on being observant, how he can't rely on his natural abilities for everything. That of course would be her undoing in this instant, as such a cliche trick wouldn't work on a trained ninja. After all, misdirection was in his job description.
James deftly swung his foot back and to the side, and then pivoted on it to bring his body to the side of his Tensora teacher. Using the momentum from transitioning to another position so rapidly, James struck at his master with the back of his blade. She countered with a block followed by a hilt strike aimed at James' gut. This knocked the wind out of him, but left him still standing. He jumped back a bit to re-posture into a more ready position. No words were said, but he knew that this was a test, and that if he passed he would become a much better swordsman.
