A midsummer's night.

The night was here. A perfect time to start their eastern patrol. The male had already checked the map plus the surroundings. Nothing was out of the ordinary. He would wait for the Genin candidate before he started talking.

"Good evening. Lady Raikage has issued this mission as your Genin test. I will be the examiner. Please call me fukuro*-san. I'm happy to meet you" greeted the ANBU.

"Our patrol is the Tamon-Ten coastline. We'll be going down south first. Next, we're taking this route up north. Our top priority is to guard or help out those in need. Priority number two is to arrest or defeat criminals" informed the man.

"You will be judged on your intelligence, teamwork skills plus jutsu skills. The Raikage has the right to veto if necessary. I got a map plus a compass to guide us. Do you have any questions?" finished the owl agent.

Description: To keep the defense of the village the Raikage has asked her ninja to perform border patrol on all sides of the country. Your job will be to watch for any threats and either stop the threats or report to the tower immediately.
Objective: Choose a border and ensure the safety of it.
Personnel requirements: 1-3 shinobis of any rank.
Reward: 28,000 ryo (25,000 for a non-nin). More may be added if a PC threat is involved.

[Skulking Shinzu]

Zuruel exhaled sharply to release a misty white breath. He had learned how to adapt his body to the most extreme and chilling of temperatures. However, even if he couldn’t feel the chill of the surroundings, the cold was still there. Every footstep crunched against the snow. Every breath released visible vapour. It reminded him of Mo – a village also amidst snowy mountains. “The pleasure is mine, Fukuro-san. You may call me Zuruel.” The Kedoin pondered in thought. Zuruel. How much danger would that name attract to his new home? Perhaps a change of identity was in order.

As Zuruel considered this, Fukuro explained the situation. “Understood.” Zuruel could conjure a horde of flesh beasts and scatter them throughout the forest to cover ground at an alarming rate. However, the ANBU had specifically stated that he would be leading the way with the map and compass. The Kedoin was used to carrying out tasks alone. Lady had warned him against this. Being a part of a village meant teamwork and relying on another’s strengths. With that in mind, Zuruel nodded and allowed the man to lead the way while he whistled near silently. The sound would only be picked up within a 5m radius of himself. Anything beyond that – it would be completely inaudible even to other Bards. The sound stretched up to 110m away and served as echolocation, revealing the layout of the area and the presence of any living beings’ heartbeats.

Going to the beach.

"The pleasure is mine, Fukuro-san. You may call me Zuruel" greeted Zuruel. "Great. Let's get out of this forest and take the beach route" told the male. It did not take long for the duo to reach the beach closest to Kumogakure.

A smell of saltwater and daylilies made the ANBU smile. However, something did not sound right. The sounds of waves was not the only thing he heard. He put on his goggles while he checked the surroundings. There was something 100 feet away from them.

"Zuruel-san. Please take a look over there" muttered the man. Laying 100 feet away from them was a humanoid figure. It was roughly five feet and moaning in pain. Or...was it a trap?

"Let's take a closer look" told the owl agent. He walked towards the foliage and kept hiding in the shadows. The male was 80 feet away, but hidden from sight. The only people at the beach was them. Furthermore, there were some seagulls flying above.

'I can't see anything close to us. However, there might be something further down the beach. Especially since there is a bit of mist there' observed ANBU agent. Said mist was 150 feet away. What would his candidate do?

[Skulking Shinzu]

Zuruel was unsure if the mission did indeed involve scouting the beach, or if this was Fukuro’s attempt at livening up the day. Either way, Zuruel was as focused as ever. Like a hawk, his eyes took in the surroundings and scanned for Chakra signatures – a ability granted to him by Loki the witch. His keen sense of smell, granted by Lady, took in the saltwater and other minuscule details. His Bard hearing – a ability that he had attained by himself – scanned for even the slightest misplaced falling of a grain of sand. Nothing could escape his honed senses.

Following the ANBU, Zuruel remained ever on guard. Carefully, Zuruel’s hearing locked onto the man laying on the ground and scanned his heartbeat. Zuruel wanted to know if the rhythm was calm – suggesting the man was indeed unconscious, or if it was rapid and hurried – the sign of danger. While Zuruel analysed the man, a surge of soul energy flooded his eyes to trigger the Know All That Is ability. Genjtusu and Chakra-created illusions would no longer stop his gaze. As if mimicking the ANBU, the Kedoin then clicked his fingers and with that, a pair of binoculars appeared in a puff of smoke. Not only did the lenses offer 110m worth of zoom, but they also provided X-Ray lenses, which would pierce through the mist and reveal objects behind. Physical and illusionary mist could no longer stop him. If no dangers were revealed, Zuruel would slowly approach the man on the ground while analysing him and the dangers in the area every 10m forwards.

The subject sees through normal and Chakra darkness, notices secret doors hidden by Chakra, sees the exact locations of creatures or objects under Blur or Displacement effects, sees invisible creatures or objects normally, sees through Illusion GenJutsus, and sees the true form of polymorphed, changed, or transmuted things. Further, the subject can focus its vision to see into the Ethereal Plane (but not into extradimensional spaces). The range of true seeing conferred is 40 meters. True seeing, however, does not penetrate solid objects. It in no way confers X-ray vision or its equivalent. It does not negate concealment, including that caused by fog and the like. Going to the beach.


The person who laid in the sand was a 13-14 year old boy. He had a Kumogakure headband tied around his forehead. The hidden male formed a few handseals.
'What happened with you?' asked the man via the genjutsu. It did not take long for the shinobi to respond.

"I am diabetic, and my blood sugar suddenly dropped. I made that mist over there to protect myself" moaned the shinobi. The ANBU walked towards the candidate. The moonlight gave them a good view of the teenager. His blue hair was plastered to his face.

'He's not acting or making things up. Furthermore, he's displaying several symptoms of hypoglycemia' noticed the male. The shinobi was drenched in sweat despite wearing shorts plus a T-shirt. Secondly, his hands plus his feet were shaking. The man looked at Zuruel.

"Zuruel-san. What should we do?" inquired the owl agent. This was an important part of the test. Especially since they were no hospitals or larger cities nearby. For some reason, the male felt a bit uncomfortable at this beach.

Zuruel raised an eyebrow. He didn’t know what technique the ANBU had used, but his eyes could see a beam of Chakra fire from his ally into the boy’s mind. Likely, it was some sort of telepathic technique like Lady’s. “Protect you from what? You might have ended up hiding yourself from help with all this mist." Zuruel blurted out the words without thinking. In an effort to not make the boy feel silly, he continued. “Is there a danger you are aware of?” The Kedoin’s voice was soft and entrancing. Utilising his Bard abilities, he’d force the boy into speaking the truth. Not that he had a reason not to. Still, Zuruel was little else if not paranoid.

“One moment.” He said while snapping his finger. A Kunai appeared, which he gently dropped onto the ground with a soft thud. “Do you know what is wrong with the boy? I can take him right to Mo’s hospital in the Land of Fire in a second if required.” He stated matter-of-factly while utilising subtle Bard speech manipulations to extract the truth. If the ANBU confirmed it was safe to take the boy to a hospital, he’d teleport the boy to Mo and hand him over to one of the nurses before immediately returning over the course of mere seconds.

"Protect you from what? You might have ended up hiding yourself from help with all this mist. Is there a danger you are aware of?" inquired the male. "I saw something swimming north really fast. Besides, I'm on my own at midnight..." explained the boy.

What Zuruel did next surprised the Kumogakure shinobis. He made a kunai appear out of thin air. "Do you know what is wrong with the boy? I can take him right to Mo’s hospital in the Land of Fire in a second if required" told the young man. The ANBU narrowed his eyes a little.

Suddenly, the Genin started to vomit. "This is bad. The kid needs sugar. Do you have any fruit or candy Zuruel-san!?" inquired the man. His voice was not the only thing that echoed in his ears though.

A splash could be heard from the sea. Said splash was 150 feet away from the shore. It was not a huge splash, but it could not be a small fish. 'Looks like the kid was not joking. However, I need to take care of him' thought the owl agent.

“Something swimming?” Zuruel tapped his chin. Not very descriptive. Normally, Zuruel would release a blast of energy, evaporate the ocean and then proceed to beat whatever was swimming around to a pulp before the tide swallowed whatever crater he left behind. However, Lady had already warned him of acting rash. The ‘something’ could be another human. Perhaps a friendly seaborne critter. Perhaps even, a floating piece of debris with no sentience. Whatever the case, the Kedoin’s trail of thoughts was interrupted the moment the ANBU’s voice filled his ears. “Sugar? One moment.”

Zuruel vanished in a flicker of purple light. Around three seconds later, the Kunai he had dropped lit up and he appeared again with a bar of chocolate fresh from his hideout. “This should do, correct?” Once he had confirmation, the Kedoin would walk over to the boy, crouch lower and feed him carefully. Too much sugar could likely do as much harm to the boy in this state as too little. “You heard that, right?” Zuruel smiled. As he fed the boy, a surge of soul energy was summoned. Like a hot knife to butter, it rose up and split Zuruel’s body and soul into two to conjure forth a soul clone.

“Leave the splashing to me. I really need to stretch my body.” The original Zuruel, grinning like a kid dashing towards a candy shop, leapt towards the ocean before diving right into the murky depths. Meanwhile, the chocolate bar had been transferred to the crouching clone, who remained behind to feed the kid like an afterimage. Head peaking over the surface of the water, Zuruel swam violently towards the splashing. Upon nearing 10m, he’d dive right into the water and utilise his 20m dark vision to peer into the ocean depths to confirm what was causing the commotion.

Suddenly, the male vanished in a flicker of purple light. The kunai he dropped earlier lit up just as fast. "This should do, correct?" asked Zuruel. The chocolate made the younger guy smile.

"It should. Thank you SO much!" replied the Genin. "Again, thank you" told the man. "You heard that, right?" inquired the male. "I did" told the ANBU.

Suddenly, the young man formed another clone. "Leave the splashing to me. I really need to stretch my body" told the original candidate. He ran towards the ocean while the clone helped out the sweating male.

It did not take long for the diabetic to get stabilized. The masked man showed him the map plus the compass. "Understood. Thank you for the help. See you later!" told the boy.

About 15 meters ahead of Zuruel was a swimming form. It was four feet long with a small head. The form swam towards a small fish and bit into it. It was an instant death for the fish.

Sadly, it was not a supernatural creature at all. It was a dead-common ringed seal hunting for food. The seal would look at the human afterwards. What was a human doing here?

“A seal?” Zuruel tilted his head. He had enough knowledge of sea creatures to be able to identify the beast and confirm that it posed little threat. He was unsure if at that moment the ANBU could make out his disappointed expression, so he simply performed a thumbs down gesture instead to reveal there was no danger. There didn’t seem to be much here. Maintaining eye contact with the seal, the Kedoin calmly and gently paddled away from it to show that he meant no harm. He knew not to turn away, as revealing his back could trigger the creature’s hunter instincts.

“Surely there’s something here…” He thought as he dove underneath the sea once more and released a burst of sound energy. Acting as sonar, the melody would reveal everything in the ocean’s depths within a 110m radius of Zuruel. If nothing sizeable was detected, the Kedoin would vanish in a flicker of light and reappear with the group after warning them that the source of the splashing was a mere seal.

Walking north.


The sonar would not catch anything out of the ordinary. Whatever the Genin heard was gone. Furthermore, it could have been a result of his low blood pressure. The ring seal swam away with its meal. It had more important things to do.

His mission partner did not seem surprised. "A seal huh? Well, let's continue north" stated the male. The Genin from earlier was on his way home. Chocolate was clearly the medicine he needed.

They would follow the boardwalk that was close to the beach. Nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary. Suddenly, the ANBU agent stopped in his tracks. His head was turned towards the beach. "Listen" muttered the man.

Zuruel probably picked up the sound before the man. It sounded like a faint baby cry plus some music. Said cry came from the public quay on their right. There two sailor boats plus a fishing boat there. Only the fishing boats had light in the windows.

If the young male looked closer, he would see two human forms at the fishing boat. They were both adult sized though. "We don't have a warrant. Any suggestions?" inquired the owl agent. They were 200 feet away from the quay.

Zuruel resurfaced and with that, spotted that the seal had peacefully fled. Suddenly, he was glad he had followed Lady’s advice and not obliterated the sea pup by going in guns blazing. This had been an important lesson. “Understood.” Vanishing, Zuruel reappeared by his clone in a flicker of light. The twins now stood side by side and eerily mirrored each other’s movements perfectly as they followed the ANBU agent deeper into the North.

Both Kedoin then paused suddenly as the sound of a baby crying caught their ears. The ANBU also paused at this seconds later. “No warrant? Leave it to me.” Zuruel patted his clone on the back, which caused it to fade away from existence. Invisible, it could no longer be detected by sight, smell or even sound as its heartbeat and breath shutdown to the point where its body emitted no audible sounds. Even its Chakra signature faded away and blended with the ambience to prevent detection by sensors and an incorporeal ghostly state would prevent physical means such as tremorsense or sonar from detecting the clone. Such was the power of the Kedoin’s ultimate stealth technique – Null Form.

Casually, the undetectable clone made its way to the baby first to confirm if it was safe. It then visited the boats and all humans near each one to eavesdrop on their conversations and confirm their intentions. The boat with the lights would be first, and then the other two last just in case anyone was hiding inside. Even without entering, at such a close range, even a whisper within wooden walls wouldn't escape the clone's keen sense of hearing. Not that walls or locked doors could stop a corporeal creature. If more information was required, the clone would simply phase through any objects blocking its path to gain any visual confirmations required.

Drawback: Molding and using Chakra for techniques beyond the clans own techniques will end this technique. Movement enhancement techniques (IE: Chakra gates) will cause this technique to end. This technique can be used only a set amount of times per day for a set duration of time.
Description: A powerful culmination of techniques that makes the user an assassin of the highest order. With utmost command and manipulation, the user can decrease the production of chakra to negligible levels. The Kedōin Blood Line can control every aspect of their cells functioning through their innate blood line abilities. At their whim, cells will either cease to produce chakra, and produce the bare minimum of chakra needed to sustain living functions. To users whom can see or read chakra, the Kedōin would appear as if they have disappeared. The user will further this technique by altering their smell in such a manner as to copy the ambient odors around them perfectly; becoming untraceable through scent. In addition, the body temperatures can be commanded to match the ambient environmental temperatures. Lastly, the user alters the skin in the same mannerisms as the "Textured Camouflaged" technique. As a whole, the user is nearly impossible to find or track. It takes one post to enter the null form. This technique lasts 36 seconds (6 posts). For every rank the user is above "B-ranked" they may extend this duration by another 12 seconds (2 posts), with the technique duration capping at 60 seconds (10 posts). This technique may only be used three times a day.

Walking north.


"No warrant? Leave that to me" told the younger male. He disappeared after patting his clone on the shoulder. The man blinked in disbelief. Had his partner just...vanished?

Both of the fishermen were talking about something. "We better get that kid to an orphanage. There's no trace of the parents" told the older guy. "I agree. Especially since nobody could have survived that bloody accident" replied his coworker.

The ANBU agent walked closer to the quay. He stood 150 feet away from the fisherboat. The male used his goggles to get a closer look. 'That boat has a valid registration number. So far so good' observed the agent.

All of the rooms inside the ship had round windows. The windows had a diameter of 15 inches. The interior of the ship was rather simple. A staircase to the control room was on the right. On the left was a long corridor.

First room on the right was a bathroom. Second room on the right turned out to be the captains bedroom. Last room on the right was a shared bedroom. First room on the left was a dining room with a TV. Second room on the left was a locker room. Last room on the left was a storage room.

Inside the storage room was a cot. Inside the cot laid a brown-haired boy. Said boy appeared to be about two years old. He wore an adult sized T-shirt plus clean diapers. Furthermore, the toddler had a bandage around his left wrist. What would the Kumogakure duo do next?

“What bloody incident? Where did it occur?” Whispered the invisible clone into the second fisherman’s ear. As he was the one that directly mentioned the ‘bloody incident’, it was possible he knew more. The man might have panicked slightly at the whisper that seemingly came from nowhere to ask two questions. However, before he could react, the clone’s subtle Bard influences would force the man to truthfully answer first before panic could settle in. Once the answers were given, the clone would investigate the rooms quickly, while paying careful attention to the captain’s bedroom and the contents of all the cupboards and drawers in there. If there was any foul play here, then that room likely contained the most answers. The clone would finish by entering the storage room and investigating the baby, where the bandaged wrist would be revealed. “Why would anyone attack a baby…”

There is a five percent chance the target will realize something strange is happening per question asked. So five for the first question, ten for the second, ect.

"I'm going back in. That kid probably wants a lullaby" told the man. His friend was alone when the disguised male appeared. "What bloody incident? Where did it occur?" whispered a voice. The man felt a chill ran down his spine.

"Er - we came across a shipwreck up north earlier today. It looked like a sailor boat. Everything was destroyed. The kid was the only thing left" replied the fisherman. It felt like someone had taken control over his body.

On land, the older male was listening to the radio. The Genin from earlier just checked in at the gates. He was on his way to the hospital. 'Nobody has left the boat yet. However, I have not seen Zuruel-san either' observed the agent.

Nothing else seemed amiss. Nodding to himself, the clone tapped a finger underneath the wrappings of the baby’s bandage in order to place a Hiraishin seal. It was likely nothing more than paranoia. However, if he did need to find or rescue the baby from something, then this was his express ticket right to it. With all heard and done, purple light flickered as the clone returned to Zuruel, alongside the original moments later. Both dismissed their Null Forms simultaneously to reveal their bodies to the ANBU. “Nothing. The baby appears to be safe.” Stated the original Kedoin, before the clone began to speak. “Agreed. The men appear to be innocent civilians. However, we should hurry further North. The baby was found at a shipwreck there. If we hurry, I can deduce what occured.” The clone's demeanour was calm and professional. However, the oddly commanding tone suggested that something was wrong. The sight of the injured baby and knowledge that the parents had likely perished had effected it.

Walking north.

The male saw the original return. He stepped back after he checked the registration number. "Nothing. The baby appears to be safe." stated the original Kedoin. "Phew, that's good" muttered the ANBU.

"Agreed. The men appear to be innocent civilians. However, we should hurry further north. The baby was found at a shipwreck there. If we hurry, I can deduce what occured" told Zuruel.

Something about his voice made the man a bit concerned. He had not heard anything about a shipwreck. Then again, they were the first team on patrol in 24 hours. 'Maybe this awakes some previous memories. This man is a foreigner after all' recalled the masked shinobi.

"I agree. Let's keep going north. We're about halfway on our patrol now" told the older male. He would leave the quay and the confused fisherman in his wake. They would walk for some time until the ANBU started to talk.

"So - how do you find Kumogakure no Sato so far?" asked the owl agent. He did not even attempt to hide his curiosity. People like Zuruel did not come by very often. Furthermore, the male knew he had spy potential.

The clone continued scanning the horizon for threats as the group travelled further North. Only the original Zuruel allowed himself time to turn his head towards the ANBU before responding. “Friendly. It’s not often I can say that about a village or town.” The Kedoin thought about it for a few moments. He had always spent his life travelling from Country to Country. Even in Mo, it had felt more like he had earned his keep and ended up staying out of necessity more than anything else. On the other hand, Cloud felt warm. He enjoyed the diplomatic visits and genuinely looked forward to interacting with the ANBU. Perhaps it was the masks. Whatever it was, they seemed rather quirky and full of personality. “What about you? I assume you were born here. Do you still enjoy living here?”

What the younger male said surprised the older man. "Friendly. It’s not often I can say that about a village or town" replied Zuruel. "I'm glad you like it here" told the ANBU. His voice was rather quiet.

"What about you? I assume you were born here. Do you still enjoy living here?" inquired the young man. "Actually, I was borne outside Kaminari no Kuni. My family moved here when I was - holy...".

The duo had arrived at a famous beach area for surfers. What laid 100 feet east however was not a surfer. It was a wrecked sailboat. Furthermore, the wreck looked rather new. Nobody was nearby.

"That must be the wreck the fishermen found. I'll call the coast guard. Do you mind checking the ship for anything suspicious? Tell me if you find something or someone" ordered the man in a firm voice. It was time for action!

“Holy? You were a priest?” The clone tugged on Zuruel’s sleeve to direct his attention towards the wrecked sailboat. “Understood.” Leaping into action, the duo dashed towards the boat and began inspecting the wreckage. Whether anything was found or not, the Kedoin had a trick up their sleeves. Flooding their eyes with soul energy, they would begin to peer twenty-five minutes into the past. Not only would they see the boat and any missing items as they were back then, but they’d also catch glimpses of people and conversations that occurred in the area. With any luck, they’d learn what had happened here.
