Personality
Kotoe is an introvert, in every sense of the word. From a young age, she was already not very talkative. On the outside, she pretends to be sociable, not overdoing it by trying to be everyone's friend, but simply to be as social as she needed to be to be viewed as normal. When she was a child, she enjoyed doing things by herself, often wandering around the village on her own. She enjoyed the freedom and the temporary escape from her parents. She often played with dolls or built snowmen outside for fun. She wasn't exactly shy, but she found it very difficult to make friends. She was never too close to anyone and it often takes her a very long time before she can call someone a friend.
Her favourite thing to do on her days off is make sweets. Before she became a shinobi, she always liked to go to cake and candy shops. Now she sometimes helps her mother at the cafe, making cakes and cookies. At her house she often spends countless sleepless nights thinking of new menu items and seasonal treats, even though she never really eats them herself. She enjoys seeing the satisfaction of customers when they eat her food. When she has a holiday, she is seen helping out in the kitchen.

Appearance
The most distinct feature of Kotoe is her one streak of hair falling in the center of her face, between her eyes. She has black hair that is cut short to just past her shoulders and lavender-grey coloured eyes. Her complexion is slightly pale, giving off the impression that she's under nourished half the time. It doesn't help that she is quite slender, only weighing 50 kilograms despite her height. She likes everything about her body with the exception on her flat chest, something that she struggled to accept since she was a child. Every possible chance she tries to show her femininity but often fails as she looks down on herself compared to the other women in her village and her clan.
Her attire is broken down into two styles: her normal tomboyish look and her feminine look.
Her normal tomboyish look which she insists is just for convenience, consists of a black yukata, separated top and bottom. Normal yukatas are more like a dress which she doesn't like to wear especially when she is on a mission. Instead, she had her yukata especially made, worn almost like a regular shirt and pants. The garments are made of 100% silk, smooth to the touch and elegant in appearance. She ties a white obi around her waist, also made from silk. Her obi is normally used to carry some of her weapons, as she doesn't like to always wear a weapon pouch. When she does wear a pouch however, she straps the pouch underneath her obi, to secure it in place. She also wears white tabi socks and a geta shoes. From time to time, she also carries a white katana, usually when she is out patrolling the village. The katana was given to her by her father, a family weapon passed down from her great grandparents.
Her more feminine look is simply a kimono. Because of the restriction in movement when she wears one, she never wears one outside of the family manor. Her favourite colours are blue and white so her kimonos are often a mixture of those colours. She loves wearing kimonos in the winter and will often wear one when she has guests over at her house. All of her kimonos are also made of silk and have some kind of flower pattern on them. She is not a big fan of accessories, wearing hardly any even when she wears her kimono. The only accessory she will sometimes wear is a necklace, hidden underneath the layers of clothing, given to her by her mother.
In every day life, she prefers to wear short sleeves and a skirt, but hates wearing heels. One will often see her in either her black yukata or a plain shirt with a white blazer and a matching skirt. Koto was never a real fashionista and doesn't take any interest in things like make-up. She wears very little make-up, only the occasional lip gloss or lipstick only because of her pale complexion. Sometimes she will wear a long black dress but only for very formal events. She believes in the idea that as long as you are beautiful, what you wear doesn't matter.

Background
The Birth of a Goddess
Kotoe was born to two loving parents, the eldest of three children. Although she lived in a family where boys were more favoured than girls, both her parents were very doting on her. She was born in the winter, one day after New Years, and was seen as a gift from the gods. From the time she was very young, her relationship with her parents were strong, especially with her father. They would play in the snow and he would take her to places around the village. This didn't change even with the arrival of her younger brother and sister. Her parents shared their love equally between the siblings and Kotoe became very protective of them too. They were known around the village as a tight knit family and was well respected by others. Her father was a shinobi and her mother a retired medic.
When she was seven however, this beautiful family image was shattered. Kotoe was just beginning to understand the concept of a shinobi and was readying herself to enter the academy. At that point, her father had already told her about her kekkei gekkai, and the possible dangers of it. She remembered the night when she was playing out in the garden when she suddenly heard a cry from her mother. She rushed into the house and saw two men at the front door. She recognized them as two of her father's friends. Their expressions grave, she knew that they were not here for a simple visit.
It was that night that she lost her father forever...
New Beginnings
Her mother never really told her how her father had died, only that he had been killed by another shinobi. For a long time the once cheerful family mourned quietly for the loss. Kotoe helped her mother around the house and took care of her siblings, while being an academy student. Life was not easy without her father. She remembered sparring with one of her classmates, just like she normally did, practicing her reflexes when suddenly her vision changed. She couldn't really understand what was happening, but it was almost like a double vision. All of a sudden she saw different colours, blended together. Her classmate screamed in terror, running away and Kotoe passed out soon after. Her mother then told her about her kekkai gekkai, passed down to her by her father and that she had awakened its ability .
At the age of 12, her mother remarried to a man named Sakuragi Ren. He had also been one of her instructors at the academy. She saw how caring he was to her mother, who had fallen quite ill after the death of her father. Kotoe wasn't opposed to their marriage, although she refuses to call him her father. She respected Ren a lot and would often train with her in his manor after school. She learned a little more about her bloodline and practiced some jutsus from scrolls her father had left behind. Although surprised and slightly scared of this newfound ability, she was determined to follow in her father's footsteps.
On her fourteenth birthday, she was just helping out at the cafe like usual when she felt her muscles hurt. At first, she didn't think much of it, probably tired and stressed from training.
