Personality
- Insatiably curious
Lyra has a fiery temper that often times gets her into trouble. Yet, she finds it hard to express her frustration at times. The one inclination that she can never seem to reserve is her curiosity. She desires to learn, and to know what is out in the world. Her father had instilled a desire to learn within her, at an early age. She has a will to go places, even if they are unsavory or dangerous. Her blindness has stripped her of the beautiful sights of the world, however, there is more life than simply visions and views. She enjoys the beautiful smells, the sounds, and the unique feelings of the places she visits. She wants to become a master of all kinds of skills and crafts. The idea of crafting her own instruments someday excites her. She is curious, to a fault and sometimes find herself in trouble because she had poked and prodded the wrong bear.
Lyra is a free spirit. Her chakra nature is that of the earth; however, she is more akin to the wind. She does things at her own leisure. She often does not consider her obligations to people and her village; however, Lyra recognizes that she must follow the law and do as she told from time to time. Her heart is free and her interests usually take precedent over whatever else they might be doing. She does as she feels like, though she has gotten a better about following orders after her training in the academy. Her training and following the orders of her superiors is simply a means to a paycheck and to helping her develop her skills to spread her music.
- Distrustful
Because of her mother's betrayal and after receiving pity for her illness, she does not trust people at face value. She often believes that acts of kindness are actually of pity. She is easy to think that others might be using her for their own gain. To some extent, she is alright with this. She will let others use her as long as she is also using them to some purpose. She is selfish and often times chooses her own self interests over the interests of a team or group. She finds it easy to betray people, after being betrayed over and over throughout her life. She does honor genuine acts of kindness however. Just like how Sanji and Sanppo had helped her, she feels inclined to help the disadvantaged or to celebrate those who show genuine acts of good will. She never forgets someone who helps her in a time of need selflessly.
- Love of Music
She is a bard by trade. Her love of music is part of her craft. She continues to develop not just her musical style, but also the techniques that are tied into music. She enjoys the weaving of chakra into her strings and the plucking of minds that plays as a result. Her loves of music is an easy interest point to start a discussion or more accurately to start an argument. She loves string instruments, and often feels that horns get all the glory in a musical composition. Music is the ear's opening to the heart and soul. Lyra truly believes that music is the easiest way to reach out one's feelings to one another.
- Afraid of Swimming
Because of her encounter with the river, she has becomes afraid of drowning. She hates swimming and prefers hard land. She even dislikes water walking, as it takes her away from her source of tremor sensing. She has attempted to try swimming lessons, with floaties and everything, but to no avail. She avoids swimming as best as she can. She does, however, like the sensation of water. It feels cool and interestingly...wet? She likes the feeling of water, but would prefer to stay out of it if at all possible. No swimming for this little girl. She is clumsy on land, and struggles to think how badly she would be in the water.
Appearance
- Facial Features
Lyra has a round facial structure with sharp features. Her nose is is short and pointy, and the bridge and cheeks are speckled with freckles. Her nose is bent to the right, as it was broken long ago when she was lost in the river. Her brown eyes are sunken and her left eye appears a bit mangled. She wears a pair of sunglasses to obscure others from looking at her poor eyeballs. Her cheeks are rosy and on the pudgier side. Her teeth are a bit crooked and it's obvious that she has a bit of an over bite. Her chin has a little scar on it from when she had fallen off the cliff years ago. It's believed that it was the cause for a majority of her brain damage that resulted in her blindness.
Lyra has a curly mess of light orange hair that she struggles with tidying. She often attempts to braid it and play with her messy hair; however, she is usually unsuccessful if she doesn't have help dressing herself. Though she is fond of wearing hats, there are always tuffs of hair dangling about underneath. She is a of a lanky build, and her legs seem disproportionately strong, as she has trained them with physical therapy in order to relearn walking. She has a good posture, and stands fairly straight. She has a scar along her abdomen that was one of her injuries from her fall. Her legs are covered in bandages and bruises from always bumping into tables and bedside corners...Her clumsiness is impeccable.
- Preferred Apparel & Color Schemes
Lyra prefers blouses and skirts for her every day apparel. She owns a few dresses and keeps them stored neatly in her apartment for special occasions. She prefers boots and closed toed shoes as well. She really wants to buy outfits; however she can't see them, and thus sometimes she wears random assortments of things, that might not seem like they make sense. She favors a green and red color scheme; however, sometimes she finds herself asking to wear blues and browns. She wants to someday find a way to shop on her own. Right now that is not a possibility, as she is unable to differentiate the colors of what she is buying. She ALWAYS likes to wear a beret or some other type of hat, in order to control her wild orange hair.
Background
-Birth & a Life of Exploration
She was born on a cold winter's morning, on New Year's day. She was born to a family of archeologists, whom had made their residence in the land of stone, in hope of studying an ancient society that had long been forgotten. Her mother, Xi Xuenyun, had been sickly for many months following her pregnancy and was bedridden for months on end. Most of her early memories are of her father, François Cadieux. He was a scholar of anthropology, in regards to Jotund civilizations. The ancient giants of mountainous Iwa no Kuni interested him, and it's where he met his partner. His partner was the daughter of one of his benefactors, whom had taken an interest in him, much to her father's dismay. They had been exploring and living within the ruins in the mountains and returned with a child a year later. Lyra's first five years of life were filled with exploration, learning both common language and the language of the giants. She admired her father greatly, but her mother grew ever distant and seemingly depressed.
- Early Curiosity and On the Run
Her father and mother returned to her grandparent's estate around her 6th birthday. It was cold, and the winter was brutal that year. Her father had taken to being his daughter's personal tutor, and began teaching her folk music. The simple yet beautiful sound would always intrigue her. Her father was a man of culture, but few words. Lyra's great respect for her father was equal to her disdain for her distant mother. Her mother spent most of her day with her father, and seemed to lack any real interest in Lyra and her soon to be husband. It seemed as if she was the child of a single parent at times. On her 7th birthday, everything changed. Her Father was assassinated by someone whom she had met only briefly before, but understood to be her uncle Xi Chou. Her father had attempted to send his child away, but not before Lyra was severely injured, falling into a river attempting to escape her uncle, for fear of losing her life. She never saw her family members again.
- Her Illness & Blindness
After her escape, Lyra was severely injured and found herself lying at the border of Tsuchi no Kuni and Iwa no Kuni by a kind individual whom she has no recollection. When she awoke, she found herself in a hospital, with a severe fever and fading vision. She had been left to the elements and been tumbled about by the river's current severely. Her optical nerves and her temporal lobe had been damaged by a commination of physical head trauma and viral meningitis that resulted from the bacteria in the water. She was barely able to survive. She had lost a good deal of her motor function, and was bed ridden. She was, day by day, losing more and more of her sight. She had been given a small lyre by her father before his demise, and she practiced music avidly during her recovery to help fill the encroaching emptiness that was taking hold her vision. Music filled her heart with joy and thoughts of her father as her vision left her completely by the age of 8 years old.
-Iwagakure & Her Training
After her release from the hospital, she spent a whole year undergoing physical therapy. She was homeless and scrapping by the pity of others. She scourged for food blindly through the streets, unsure of how to survive without the kindness of others. A restaurant owner by the name of Sanji, often fed her at his own expense. Her independent nature drove her to search for her own means of survival. One evening, after a drunken attack of a patron left her in tears, Sanji told her of a story of a blind shinobi and the many strange powers of the ninja. She had, at this point, never seen nor heard of such a profession. Could such magic really exist? she thought to herself. She became determined to become self sufficient, and with the help of Sanji and his Father Sanppo, she was able to fulfill her dream and joined the academy. She struggled with reading and often needed asssitance; however, once she began to learn the secrets to manipulating chakra she began to see the world in a whole new way. She was a natural musician and illusionist, because her blindness left her mind free to be creative. She learned the earth release and began to use both her hearing and her sense of touch to guide herself. She was becoming self sufficient, though she is far from mastery of these skills.
-Life as a Musician
After her graduation from the academy at age 12, Lyra decided that she would dedicate her skills to music and became dedicated to her craft. She mastered the Lyre, a small harp, that her father had gifted to her as a child. Her music was a means for her to express her creativity. It's now her desire to explore the world as a traveling musician, at the behest of her village, to show appreciation for the gift of freedom that she had been given. She now looks for others that feel the same way she does. The Tsuchikage's Laze Fare nature truly helped Lyra spend her time exploring the land. She now practices her craft even further, looking to become the best shinobi bard there had ever been! Her disability was not her choice; however, she has made the most of her poor situation. She will hopefully be able to spread the folksongs of her father's and bring justice to the music she creates.
