Having completed that somewhat unpleasant task, I started traveling back towards the village. I was quite a good ways away at this juncture, through a few small countries, so I decided to take the shorter route and travel by water. From where the two Genin had died to the port was not a long trip, and we traveled it in a short time, uneventful except for a little side trip to find a plant. Once boarding the boat, I became rather bored, so I decided to learn a new technique. This was also from the weapon specialist style, a very useful technique called scroll grenade. It works basically as it sounds, using all the weapons within and expelling them outward in all directions, just like some sort of grenade. Now of course using an actual loaded scroll to practice this would be highly dangerous, and would also waste those weapons. So instead I had taken several pieces of paper to practice with. Placing them into a scroll, I loaded it up. This was a C ranked jutsu, so there were 12 handseals to do. I flipped through them super quick, and in that moment my chakra was sent forth to the scroll, and focused harshly. Even rolled up and stuff, the paper was still expelled in all directions hurriedly, and with a great commotion. Practicing some more, I passed away the time before we landed and departed.
Along the way to the port, Makura wanted to continue his training in the greater arts of sensing things. Now that he had no more runaway genin to track, maybe it was time to try looking for something a little less warlike. One of the genin had recently walked through a patch of herbs, something with a distinct scent, but no value. Makura wanted to see if, while the group was traveling back homeward, if he could possibly find another instance of that same herb. This would hone his sensory skills, and give him something to do along the long journey. And so he began working hard, doing his best. All along the way as they went, he sniffed around, his forked tongue flickering in the wind here and again. First one area was investigated, and then the next, moving carefully along just as the group traveled. At first I was quite difficult, as things are at first. But once he managed to grasp a hold of the core scent, it became much easier. The scent filled his little nostrils, allowing him to zero in on the location of the herb more easily. The port was coming up quickly, just in sight now and not far. Moving off to the left a bit, Makura deviated from the path for a moment in order to fulfill his self-defined goal. And there it was, a small patch of the basic plant just over the next hill. Success.
~Flashback~
Rakurai was still remembering her constant fight with the crows, as vividly as if it had occurred yesterday. Before she had really been able to rely on her second sense to warn her of the impending attacks, she had gotten hit a lot. During most of them she was able to avoid the sharp claws and beaks, but still got rammed repeatedly by the big black aviators themselves. Now all told, she was starting to get rather tired of it, and the damage was already showing in the form of dark bruises beneath her feathers. And of course, she was fighting back, and dealing out frightful vengeance with her beak, claws, and feather spears. But it was interest, because even though she was taking significant hits from all the birds ramming into her, as time progressed Rakurai found that she was feeling the blows lees and less. Curious, as there was nothing she was doing in particular that would soften their charge, but perhaps she was simply getting used to it. As the battle continued, she began to discover the truth of this assumption. Taking hit after hit was no longer difficult, and the pain had decreased dramatically. In fact, this definitely began to improve her fighting ability greatly, seeing as how there was less hurt to contend with. Being able to reduce the damage could definitely prove to be quite useful.

Makura:
Torakkingu Kaori (Tracking Scent)
Rank: D, C, B, A, S
Skill: Skill
Effect: An animal companion hones their sense of smell to such levels that they may track an opponent.
Special: N/A
Drawback: Certain animals cannot progress to the higher levels of this technique do to their lack of acute scent abilities. Animals with unremarkable scent abilities, such as the bird, can only learn up to the B ranked version of this technique.
Description: The user of this technique gathers their natural scent abilities, using them to track an opponent. The animal catches the scent of the tracked object or person, and from there follows the scent trail. With the D ranked version, the user can only track a scent ten days old. Each rank higher that is trained increases the time frame by ten days. This means that a user with the C ranked version can track a scent twenty days old, while the S ranked version can track a scent fifty days old. This technique may be used to track humans, objects, or even herbs. However, when tracking an herb or poison, the user can only track an herb or poison of the same rank of as their current level of this technique. The user can only track an herb they have encountered in the past. The user must have encountered either a poison itself or the components making it up in the past in order to track it. This technique increases the user’s chance of finding an herb by five percent. This amount increases by a further five percent at each rank, so an S rank user has their chance of finding an herb increased by twenty five percent. The user can track an opponent over various terrains, including grassland, hard earth, and undisturbed snow and sand, and still water. When tracking another human being, the user has a thirty percent chance of catching a scent while in the same region, or a ten percent chance while in an adjacent region. A user must have at least one post between each post asking for a scent roll. This percentage increases by ten at each rank, so the S ranked version of the technique allows the user a seventy and fifty percent chance, respectively. Once a scent is successfully caught, and the user is in the same region as the tracked victim, the user has a twenty percent chance of finding them. This percentage increases by ten for each rank of this technique learned, so the S ranked version offers a sixty percent chance.
Limit: Must have at least fifty training points with animal companion beyond Control, Teamwork, Understanding, and Friendship.
Rank: D, C, B, A, S
