The night came and it began to get cold as Hitomi continued to walk around looking for the village. It was pitch black out and she had no means of warmth if she needed it, in fact she was wearing rather revealing clothing that the cold night air nipped at like a fish with fish food. It began to get to her and she rubbed her arms for the warmth she so carelessly tried to toss away but an hour ago and she just knew that it was going to get worse. She was right about that as well and as two hours passed it was only about Nine Degrees Celsius but that was still considered warm compared to how cold it was still going to get, in the desert it gets cold enough to keep snow from melting at night, it was the most extreme of environments out there going from blistering heat in the day to freezing cold at night, one could easily go into shock if they weren’t careful and unfortunately for her Hitomi was one of those un-careful people.
The cold was sending her body into high alert and it was beginning to completely mess up her systems and it only got worse as time went on. After another hour a of aimless wandering the temperature dropped to a little below Four Degrees Celsius and it was at this point that Hitomi’s body really got messed up. It began to shake and tremble without Hitomi being able to stop it and soon it began to increase her heart rate and the muscle beat faster and faster causing Hitomi’s breath to increase sharply and she began to pant. Soon she couldn’t walk anymore and she seen black as she passed out. Unconscious, Hitomi began to dream, dream of herself huddled in the cold with a small box of matches. Opening them up Hitomi stuck one alight to keep herself warm but soon the match faded but she struck another one. The image of a Christmas tree appeared to her and food, she could see them almost as if they were there but they weren’t, they were in some kind of weird light.
The match burnt out and Hitomi looked up, seeing shooting stars fly across the sky, at least one benefit of being in the desert she could see the night sky. She recalled her grandmother telling her once that shooting stars meant that someone was going to heaven and as she was doing so she struck another match and seen an old woman ”Grandma?” Hitomi asked aloud receiving a nod in response. The old woman was there, standing by her but she was dead.’ It must be a vision’ she supposed as she struck match after match to keep the image of her grandmother alive as long as she could but soon the last match in the box was struck and all warmth left the area and Hitomi’s body become still and cold. Her grandmother lifted her soul from her body and up to heaven and Hitomi was found a few days later by some travellers… ”No!” Hitomi screamed as she awoke from her dream.
Her body was cold, almost as if she were dead but she still took breath, the dream was vivid though, almost as if it was real but it was not. Hitomi’s body managed to correct itself it seemed and the young girl stood up and continued on her way, freezing but very much alive. Her body temperature though was that of the dead, like one of the zombies she had faced and vanquished but unlike them she still flowed blood, ice blood but blood. A light caught her eye in the dark and she began to run, hoping it was something of value and hopefully to raise her body temperature. The light got bigger and bigger but still it took hours for Hitomi to reach it fully and it turned out to be the sand village as she got close, the lights being of the villagers lights in their homes. It was such a relief to know that she wasn’t lost but she was still trying to adapt to the desert climate and so outside the gates she sat down and fell asleep, the day taking a lot out of her body.
