[Konohagakure's exquisite research centre]
" All of science is nothing more than the refinement of everyday thinking. "
On the east side of the village, close to the golden temple of might, lays one of Konoha’s largest complexes: The Research Centre. Formerly a largely ‘empty’ terrain that only housed the botanical gardens and the greenhouse, it has been transformed into one large facility of science and wisdom. Thanks to Konoha’s large layout there was enough room to be made around what already existed, making the entire complex being housed on a stunning eight hectare large area. Within this enormous facility there is everything the budding animalist, herbalist and other type of shinobi researchers could require.
The outer façade of the building in a baroque style itself is built to impress, just as everything the Godaime has built during his reign. Although the entire complex is situated on a hill the hillside facing the entrance has been dug out in five large ‘steps’ to make a perfect straight entrance towards the front of the building. It is however impossible to walk straight towards the entrance, because there is a complex of fountains in the way.
Consisting of twelve steps these fountains reach away from the entrance, each step descending a bit further down the slope towards the building. Each step is made from black granite and white quartzite and all sport a beautiful gilded decoration; each depicting a scene derived from either the world of flora or fauna. In the centre of the fountain there is a large pond with one big circular fountain that consists of many smaller ones. This pond lies below the top seven levels, separating the steps into two sets.
Whereas from the pond three more steps extend to the lowest level the top seven steps end in a steep wall that extends right to the lowest level that extends right to the lowest level. The steep walls around the central fountain and the wall that extends from the sides are built from a durable greywacke stone. There where the large pond intersects the walls there are empty niches in the wall. At the walls on the sides gilded faces protrude from the wall, their mouths ever spraying water from the higher levels to the lower ones. And to complete everything the entire fountain complex is decorated with gilded marble statues, these statues represent muses, gods, famous philosophers and ancient scientists.
On the sides of the fountains stairs extend to the large stone yellow baroque building that sports white trims representing window frames, door frames and columns. It is a square building of a massive size, excluding the gardens and greenhouse it is four hectares in size, mainly containing the vivaria which doubles as a zoo and is therefore open to the public. It also houses a library just behind the entrance which is free to enter for shinobi. Inaccessible to the public are the laboratories, which are also housed in the building.

[ Library]
’Books, good reader, are the repository of wisdom.’
Within the research centre, upon taking a path which can be found from the lobby, lies a large library of which is open to the public for borrowing of books, scrolls and various items of learning. The Library was built in order to try and widen the hobby interests of Konohagakure's citizens, may it be through the taming of animals, or learning how to plant, harvest and find various herbs. The books which are available to be borrowed have all, generously been donated by members of the village.
The library has quite a vast size, no sight of wall to be seen as it is covered by hundreds upon hundreds of bookcases which are filled with books, scrolls and parchment which are able to be borrowed. The Library itself is made from fine oak- The bookcases included- whilst most wooden structures are coated with a lick of fireproofing which makes it hard for the library to burn. Despite the prominent colours of brown which are apparent within the library, there also seems to be color where the books are, scattering various colours across the walls of the building.
Within the room there also lies various desks with lamps upon them for reading and examining text, and leather chairs which scatter the place in order to be sat on whilst reading. All in all, the Library is a pleasant place with a comfortable atmosphere of which people are invited to come, read and relax.

[The Vivaria]
If a man aspires towards a righteous life, his first act of abstinence is from injury to animals.
Inside the research centre the largest part of the building is reserved for vivaria. These double as a zoo, and it is mainly from the still quite cheap entrance tickets that the centre draws a lot of profit. Within the vivaria animals can be housed comfortably in a more or less natural environment. Due to different animal sizes and their specific needs there is a part with small vivaria, one with larger ones and some big aquaria.
These are the smaller vivaria, meant for well… Small animals. The largest that can be housed in these is a small colony of small dogs, but the most inhabitants are amphibians, reptiles, birds, insects, small mammals, fish and so on. All vivaria has a reinforced glass window, that makes sure that whatever is held within the vivarium will not escape. All vivaria are equipped with a climate system, allowing the internal climate to be precisely adjusted to the inhabitants of the cage. To make it even neater all vivaria are embedded in the wall, with the entrances being at the back where they are only accessible to shinobi, researchers and the caretakers.
The pride of the village; the large vivaria, here, spread over different pens, entire packs of animals up to mammoth size can be reared. Each pen sports a reinforced glass roof, making it unable for anything to either enter or exit through that roof except for the light. It is truly unique that each animal can live inside the building whilst exactly following the outside day and night pattern. Within the roof sprinklers are installed and each pen has its own climate system. This makes it possible to perfectly mimic the climate in the animals normal environment.
An durable electric fence that can extend all the way to the roof depending on whatever is held inside the pen separates the animals from everything outside their cage. Don’t be fooled, the fence is extremely strong and requires an amount of force that even outrageous for a mammoth before it breaks. Glass panes separate the public from the electric fence, since the last the village wants is the visitors to electrocute themselves. The pens can be accessed from the back where they are only accessible to shinobi, researchers and the caretakers.
Then finally there are the aquaria, once again these have a climate system that exactly monitors the water conditions in each aquarium, making life as comfortable as possible for those who inhabit it. These aquaria have been built to house the worlds largest and strongest sea animals too. The Perspex that separates the public from the water and the animals is more than a meter thick and reinforced, making it virtually impossible to make a dent in this defense, let alone allow the animals to get out. The entrances to these aquaria are on the top, where they are only accessible to shinobi, researchers and the caretakers.
