Scent
Rank: "D", "C", "B", "A", "S"
Skill: TaiJutsu
Effect: This extraordinary special quality allows a creature to detect approaching enemies, sniff out hidden foes, and track by sense of smell.
Special: ---
Drawback: ---
Description: The creature can detect opponents within 10-meters by sense of smell. If the opponent is upwind, the range increases to 20-meters; if downwind, it drops to 5-meters. Strong scents, such as smoke or rotting garbage, can be detected at x2 the ranges noted above. Overpowering scents, such as skunk musk, can be detected at x3 normal range. When a creature detects a scent, the exact location of the source is not revealed—only its presence somewhere within range. The creature can take a movement to note the direction of the scent. Whenever the creature comes within 2-meters of the source, the creature pinpoints the source’s location. Learning "D" Rank allows the user to search for Common things, while "S" for Nearly Impossible. Each rank user learns increases chance of finding by 2% for the Rank of Herb, and increases per Rank thereafter. Example: At "S" Rank User gains 10% increase chance in finding Common Herbs and Animals but only 2% Increase for Nearly Impossible Herbs and Animals.
Limit: Must be an Animal, Fey, Monster, or Vermin. Innate Animal Jutsu.

Granite was a bear. A bear he was proud to be, and as a bear he was blessed with a nose greater than that of your best tracker dog, he was a great nose. He recalled how his mother first taught him to use his nose to find dinner. It was when he was just freshly born, when she was supposed to be feeding him herself, she forced him to learn to hunt and forge for his meals. She said to use his nose to find dinner so he sniffed the air. He caught scent of the flowers nearby and moved to them. He got acquainted with their scent and thought perhaps they were food. He ate them but found them unsatisfying and he learnt that while these things his mother called flowers were edible, they were not necessarily food for him to eat so he had to find other things to smell so that he could eat to sustain himself. He sniffed the air again and tried to catch more scents so that he would be able to find something to eat for his dinner.
He caught scent of, after a moment, something he would later describe as earthy. Like the dirt he stood upon, he found himself at a nearby pit of clay after he searched for his next meal. He began to eat the clay but found it to be inedible, not suited for eating and dinner. Many would think this laughable but his mother didn't even stir, she just followed along behind him as Granite tried to find his way through the world. It was difficult and he was getting hungry, newborns should be fed often and yet he hadn't eaten a thing. He smelt his way through the forest and smelt something similar to the flowers, but different. He found some berries with his nose and he ate them, they were good. He ate them all up, every berry on the bush before find another berry bush. His mother stopped him from eating these ones though as she said they were not to be eaten else he would die, which he now understood to be a bad thing. She advised him to remember how these berries smelt differently to the other ones so that he could remember not to eat other berries with the same smell in the future, and he did.
He used his nose again to find the location of something else edible and found something that smelt as though it were what he would now call rotting. It was a pleasant smell to him and he moved toward it. It turned out that a wild dog had died and was now a meal to the worms. The worms and him, he moved to eat it and his mother didn't stop him so it must have been okay. He took a bite and then found it was delicious to him. He ate and ate until he was full and he discovered what he would call food. He was now ready to forge all on his own but his mother of course had greater plans for him...
This thing that Granite was now attacking, it was wrong. It didn't smell. He landed on it heavily and found that a cloud of smoke was created with the action. The thing he had attacked was not the genin, how droll. He used his prized nose to search for the real Genin, seeking out just where the boy could be. Finding him he whiped his head around to face his opponent and began another charge. This man was able to use a weird technique, just like the other ninja he had faced. How annoying but at the same time it made things more and more interesting. Granite was beginning to enjoy himself. Again he charged though this time it was a slower charge as his hind legs were injured. To make up for this he performed a kind of serpentine maneuver as he ran to create a harder target to attack. He wasn't quite up to jumping at the moment however so his intention was to swipe at Tetsu with his front right claw, shredding him to pieces with the action. He wanted blood to spill, just not anymore of his blood.
