The Issue:
I really do hope that this doesn't get recieved with negativity that was not meant to be here. This thread was created with the hopes of improving the exams for everyone, and hopefully shine a light onto how the exams are percieved and recieved by those participating.Link:
- Considering the Chuunin's are one of the more massive events, and one of the things that people with right should look forward to, I think a discussion on the matter is appropriate. I'll be breaking my arguements into segments, to make it easier to read and understand.
Arguement One:
First, what -is- a Chuunin, actually? Linky to Chuunin info.Chūnin (中忍; Middle Ninja") are ninja who are qualified to guide other ninja and lead missions. Chūnin have reached a level of maturity and ability that primarily consists of leadership skills and tactical prowess.
Thats all good and fine, right? The Chuunins are teamleaders and have tactical prowess. Thus the Chuunin exams should reflect a test in these kind of abilities. To list a few:
- Scouting (Information Gathering)
- Discipline
- Overview, Patience, Tolerance.
- Loyalty
- Strategy.
Those are probably the main things required to become Chuunin. Yet, when I go through the current exams, there honestly aren't many if any tests based upon these qualities in a shinobi. When reading some (Not all) of the participants threads, I wonder why their questionaire feels like a Mac-Donalds interview, when they wanted to be Engineers.
Arguement Two; The Quality of the GM'ing.
This is a big one. A really big one, and it will be split into a few sections, starting with the most severe cases.
--------1: Poor Quality posts:Case one.
In the above, we see Axel slightly mess up his intro post, which is fine. He gets punished for it, everyone is happy. Except for a few facts.
1: What happened to the Disk, Earpiece and 'Skip-challenge' container that he put in his pocket?
2: Where is he going to search for a key in a uniform room, inside himself?
3: How long is the timer for this device to actually cut him to pieces?
- Ranting at a roleplayer for having given poor information and punishing him for it, while writing such a sloppy post is blowing my mind.
Case Two:
This case is probably the worst one. The writing here appears to be god-modding, as attacks are written as if they automatically connect. Even if that was not what the writer behind the post meant, assuming the character playing think thats how its meant to be, this character could've ended up dead due to poor roleplay. Honestly, this one is a massive joke and needs to be fixed if anyone is to enjoy their Chuunins. I'm happy that Rabble asked for the details in the C-box before things had gotten messy for her.
Case 3:
First an owl which the character is connected to gets stolen. The writing here appears as if the character had a chance to respond, but the voice in his headcomms acts as if it has already taken place.
- After that, he has to write down his answer for what the center of gravity is. he writes down his answer. Apparently, thats enough to get him blown up. If you wanted a single word to describe the center of gravity, it should have been asked for. Giving him two-lines and the order to write his answer and then blowing him up for following the stated rules is just poor GMing.
There's plenty of more to go for, yet I believe people will tune in with their own concerns. This is just what I have experienced, and what I find problematic about the current exams.
Peace.
