Learning: Gantai no Jutsu (Bandage Technique) 0/10
At the first light of dawn, Nero's bed sheets were floating through the air of his bedroom. An early start gave him more time to train. As gravity slowly pulled the sheets down in a pile on the bed, Nero was running through the door, followed on his heels by Runner, his ever present dog companion. Not even seeing his kidnapper "Father" could put a damper on his enthusiasm this morning.
With a slice of bread between his teeth, Nero threw a dog biscuit to his best friend who barked at him, grateful for the treat so early in the morning. As the two were chewing on their own food in the morning, Nero attempted to put away one of his scrolls in his belt, while at the same time grabbing his newest book addition and trying to put on the belt. With one hand missing to perform all those actions, Nero was stumbling out the front door.
"Last one there has to get lunch." He looked down at his companion, curious if he understood what Nero meant. Probably not. A bark of approval and off they went, running through the streets, racing each other. Not soon after, the walls of kusagakure were behind them and trees took over the scenery around them. The deeper they got into the woods the thicker the underbrush became. Suddenly taking a left into a particularly thick patch of bushes, Nero made his way through to their secret hideout, a clearing in the middle of the forest, where sunlight was invited through a hole in the leaves above them.
Plopping himself down in the middle of the clearing, Nero rolled out the scroll he had brought and put the book down next to it. 'Medical techniques for dummies.' the title read. Although not to fond of the wording in the title, Nero figured he had to start somewhere. "Alright, Runner. Let's start." He turned the first page, quickly reading through the introduction and focusing his attention on the index page. "Chakra Enjitou, no... Hone Chiyu... Too difficult... Shosen, What do you think?" A quick bark of disapproval had Nero continue the list. "Ketsuki Gyouku. Sounds interesting. Aha, here. Gantai no Jutsu: The user focuses chakra into a nearby material, such as sand, grass, or even water, forming it into an adhesive, sterile strip that’s reminiscent of a bandage. Once formed and applied, the makeshift bandage will remain without chakra input. That sounds easy enough, no?"
Runner had taken the time to lie down in the grass, looking at his master, listening to his voice, simply enjoying the sound. As his master looked up from the book, Runner put his head down on the ground, placing one paw over his nose, as if to hide.
"Pffft... Quitter." Nero got up and walked to the edge of the clearing, breaking of a twig from a nearby tree, collecting it, together with the leaves on it. He placed it down next to the scroll and the book. Plucking off two leaves from the twig, Nero focused his chakra on the leaves. Because of his natural streamlined chakra channels, the blue glow quickly formed around his hands and the leaves. "Aaand... Tada~ Bandage." Proud, Nero let go off his chakra and one leaf, watching as it simply fell in his lap, showing no trace of sticking to anything. "Or not..." Without losing his drive, he picked up the leaf and put it against the other one again.
While he had been sitting, trying to create bandages out of leaves, the little bugs living inside of Nero had sensed the use of chakra. Some of the more curious ones started to peek out, crawling out of the holes in his skin and moving over his body to his shoulders and arms, from where they could watch what the chakra was being used for.
Again, chakra flowed to his hands and the leaves he was holding. With another look at the instructions in the book, Nero formed his chakra into the leaves, trying to envision it like an adhesive substance. Expectant, he let go of one leaf. For a moment the leaves stuck together before the chakra faded and the leaf fell down in his lap again. Once more he picked it up and put them together. More chakra flowed into the leaves as Nero held them together. This time, trying a different approach, Nero let go off the leaf and quickly grabbed another one, trying to use a third leaf to balance the second one in the middle. Ineffective. With a leaf in each hand he watched the third leaf float down into his lap.
The sun continued steadily across the sky, clouds moving pasts with the wind. The black dots that were the bugs moved over Nero’s skin and over the ground around him, exploring their temporary location. They already recognized the grass and the area around from previous visits here. Runner remained in one place, his head resting on his paws, which were lying in the grass. His eyes were focused on his master, although it looked more like he was having trouble staying awake, because of his skin.
As beads of sweat gathered on his forehead, Nero placed two leaves together and drew his chakra towards them. The tip of his tongue was sticking out between his lips, his concentration purely on the leaves. "Come on. Hundred-and-forty-three times a charm…" He imagined his chakra like glue between the two leaves, while also wrapping around the two leaves to keep them together after outside pressure was released. With his eyes closed, he let go of the leaf. It took him a moment before he dared to open his eyes.
From here on out, things went much smoother for Nero. Realizing how it was done, Nero quickly got the hang of it and stuck a string of leaves together, creating a makeshift bandage out of mother nature. Proud of his creation he wrapped the leaves around his forearm, using his knowledge of first aid to apply it. He watched as the bugs swarmed over it as soon as he had applied his first Gantai no Jutsu. "Aww yeah, Runner, look. I'm the best medic in Kusagakure!"
