Effect: The basic posture of the Muay Thai Style. The basic posture needed in order to move on into the more advanced techniques of the Muay Thai style. The Jod Muay is the basic step of defending but Muay is the martial art that uses the eight limbs, two hands, two shins, two knees, and two elbows to fight the opponent. This is the basic posture to defend the opponent strikes.

Description: Picture The leading foot should be pointed straight, while the other is positioned to angle at ninety degrees whilst raising the heel of the back foot. Both the knees and the body are straight, designed to create posture. The chin must remain in the same posture as the shoulders; in essence, this means that the user must lower their chin to be level with the shoulders, while raising the shoulders and the arms for guarding purposes. The next step is to grasp the hands, keeping them raised to face level, crafting a guard with the forearms to allow defending against oncoming attacks. The eyes are straight forward, locking onto the opponent's abdomen for full view of oncoming strikes against the upper or lower body.
Limit: Must be taught by a Muay Thai Master, or must take a small schooling, or simply watch how one does it.

the gym
Ryu stood in the middle of the gym, wrapping the black hand wrap around his left hand as he looked across the gym, scanning to see the skill level of the other people in the gym. The gym was a small room thirty-six foot long by about twenty foot. In the left hand corner of the room was a speed bag next to it on the shorter wall was a double ended ball and next to that in the top right corner was a light thai boxing bag, down the side of the far wall three boxing bags. The right side didn't have any equipment but was full of gloves and pads on the floor with the wall covered in mirrors. Down the wall where the entrances was three more muay thai bags. The floor was covered in a thick mat so that their would be less injury if falling.
The training
A guy came over wearing a pair of black and white muay thai shorts and black twelve ounce muay thai gloves. He was roughly the same size as Ryu maybe a inch or two smaller. He swept his short black hair and the sweat of his face with one of his gloves “hey new guy right, I'm Ben. So have you done any muay thai before ?” Ryu looked at the man for a moment before replying “No this is my first time, I'm Ryu by the way”. Ben looked Ryu up and down “I see you have all the right gear to start I'm liking your shorts by the way, I was think of buying them a bit back. So Ryu I can teach you the basics if you want ?”.
Ben positioned himself directly text to Ryu “now copy me put you left foot out in front of your self in line with your shoulder”. Ryu copied placing his left foot out in front twisting his boy so that he was at a angle. “now place your back foot at a ninety degree angle and come up on the ball of your foot” Again Ryu copied Ben's instructions placing his foot on the cold hard mat and coming up on the ball of his foot, in this position Ryu felt strong like he could do a lot of damage to somebody. “now you need to stand straight and lower your chin to the same hight as your shoulders and at the same time raise your arms and shoulders so that you can guard yourself”. Ryu did as he was told standing straight, then he tucked his chin in close and raised his arms and shoulders so that he could protect himself.
“Great Ryu, that’s perfect now for your guard. Form your hand into fists and keep them at face level and keep your elbows into your chest so you don't break any ribs”. Ryu positioned his arms close to his chest with his hands head hight he had his left hand slightly in front of his right. “Now that is the position you want to protect yourself its your bread and butter after you have his you can build the sandwich. When you are fighting remember to look at the targets upper abdomen so that you can see high, mid and low attacks coming. Now to move if you move left or froward move you left foot first then drag your right, and if you move right or back move your right foot then your left, sounds simple enough doesn't it ” Ryu moved left three times moving his left foot then dragging his right then he moved back moving his right foot first remembering to keep on the balls of his feet, so he could move faster and get more power into the punches.
