~Background
In the early years of Satu, only had a family to rely on, friends were non-existent for the shy child. At a young age, he and his twin sister experienced teasing to such a degree that at one point he had considered dropping out of the academy. Satu was a very meek boy growing up and because of that it made him a prime target for cruel jokes of false-inclusion into activities and ‘dares.’ The result of such teasing lead him down a dark path initially after one day catching his sister being picked on, the sight enraged him such he beat the boy to near death. After the spout of anger, he was forced to see a therapist where he let loose his feelings and began to grow as a person through the Doctor’s careful analyzing. It was later determined he suffered from a personality disorder due to the extreme bullying that took place. His father however didn’t believe that was the case, he saw his son as someone who despised bullies and gave him some encouraging advice. “Those who try to do something and fail are infinitely better than those who try nothing and succeed.” These words stuck to Satu as he began to live by it, already living in a shinobi home that embraced comradely.
After becoming a Genin, at the age of 14 he’d learned that his older brother went missing during an intelligence mission within Fire Country and as a result Satu impulsively went in search of him. Although marked a missing shinobi for some time, Satu saw something on his journey that forced him into action. An elderly man walking along the path of Fire Country was surrounded by muggers and seeing this sprung Satu into action as a result Satu spoke to the man to later find out it was an Aburame clan member and getting to know him, requested he join the clan. At first Satu resisted the idea, knowing he had to look for his brother, but after learning the capabilities of the bugs, he embraced the idea and became a member. Due to the fact he was affiliated with the Waterfall village, he made an oath to the Aburame to never divulge their secrets and to carry a plaque titled ‘My Creed’ with him. Although the bugs could not track the location of his brother, he gained a new ability that proved useful to the Waterfall village.
After years of therapy, Satu finally found himself amidst the ere past that lurked in the back of his mind, he embodied his creed, and for that he progressed up to the rank of Jounin almost instantly. Still searching for his brother today, Satu fills the void within himself by never abandoning those he holds dear and because of that, he is a success.
---The Talk: Age 17
The feeling of calmness seemed to settle over the young man as he lay motionless upon the leather recliner of the dimly lit room. His eyes closed partially, not at the threat of sleep, but rather the soothing hand of relaxation. “Doctor… What do you think is wrong with me?” asked Satu in a drunken slurred way of speaking “Repeat that?” The realization of slurred speech stripped Satu of his relaxed state as he sat up slightly “What do you believe is wrong with me…” he asked in a much more dignified tone. “Well, I’m not entirely sure… You haven’t told me anything…”
“Well you’re a doctor aren't you?” Satu said sitting back on the recliner once more. “Well--yes… But I’m not a psychic. Tell me from the beginning ”
“I keep having these nightmares…”
“Nightmares... Tell me about them”
“They all start different, but they end in the same way. I’m walking along a grass plain when I see someone in the distant, as I get closer I see their face. But then they die...”
“ Whose face?” asked the doctor jotting down notes.
“It is never the same person”
“Do you know this person?”
“Sometimes… It is always someone different”
“Interesting, faces both familiar and unfamiliar... But go on, how do they die?” asked the doctor.
Satu clenched his fist as the bugs within him grew restless at the emotional strain embedded into his chakra, “A rope,” said Satu squeezing his eyes shut. “The rope wraps around their neck and strangles them on the grassy plain.” Satu said in a shuttering tone. The doctor continued to jot down notes as Satu continues “The first couple of dreams, I ran to them... I tried to save them, but nothing could remove or cut the rope than hung them. They died in front of me, struggling for a while but their body gave after a short while. After it happened so many times, I sort of gave up... I couldn't do anything. I did't even bother to try ” said Satu shaking the thought of the nightmares that haunted him.
“From my understanding, your family has a long shinobi lineage, right?” asked the doctor “Yes… but what does that have to do with this?” he responded “Just entertain me… And what is the most important thing to your family, in terms to their role as shinobi?” “I know this is a bit uncommon to the stereotypical shinobi, but they view comradely as the most important attribute for a shinobi to have.” responded Satu. “Then I have a diagnosis. You’re suffering from what is known as Thantophobia, fear of death or loss” said the doctor “I’ve seen death… I’m not afraid of it Satu said sitting up in almost disgust at the doctor’s accusation. “You misunderstand, not of death when confronting enemies. But the ability to confront death when it is facing things or persons you care about.”
“Hah... Maybe you are right doc. I don't know what that kind of pain is, my brother is the closest loss I've had and I am certain he is alive somewhere. Its haunting me though... This feeling. What can we do?”
“Hypnotherapy… We’ll have to venture back to the time you first met them and we’ll have to re-construct yours subconscious to become capable of withstanding a loss.”
“But doctor that means changing who I am doesn't it?”
