In the midst of a forest clearing, a group of travelers rested from their long journey from Kuma no Kuni. They had only recently set up camp near some ruinous building in one of River Country's far and between forests. The moon was but a week old and hung in the atrous sky in half its fullness as the men gathered around a fire in merry-making. Sake of beverage and sugar form was soon consumed, followed by ridiculous amounts of smoking; for all its worth, one could say that the men were having a hell of a time.
As the night grew on, so did the carnal festivities of the Karuskan natives - the loud partying was sure to draw the attention of some nearby wanderer soon enough. He was in the treeline just watching from afar as the shadows of the flame flickered off of his porcelain mask. The scarf tied around his neck hung loosely at his side in the stagnancy of the night wind. At his back, the blade Fukuyoru was sheathed in total darkness; the figure's lower half was hidden in the depths of night but the red vest on his chest was quite noticeable in the travelers' flame. He would lie in wait as they continued to immerse themselves in drunkenness. The man wasn't a coward, but a waiter. His years spent training have allowed him to perceive the world around him and strike when the time is apt.
And that time would be now.
In a chilling gust, the fire of the travelers was extinguished. They panicked around in their drunken states mumbling curses while others thought they had angered the spirits of the ruin and prayed for forgiveness. Their invocation would be superseded: there, in the cloak of night, leapt their attacker. A quick Katon flame reignited their fire pit and from the shadows he attacked, Fukuyoru slowly creeping from its black perch.
