Personality
Hiroki is at first glance, sweet, funny, and kind, not unlike a puppy. He is very much a people person, and likes to make new friends. With a personality like his loneliness is just not an option. He has a gift for making other people smile; whether it is just by his presence and residual joy or from jokes or pranks he may or may not be the cause of. Before his father passed away, he always told Hiroki that no matter what, one of his greatest traits was the ability to see the bright side of any situation, and he does indeed. He is extremely optimistic, but not so great with his words. Sometimes he’ll stumble about when caught in a situation he’s uncomfortable with. The only times he has no issue finding the right words for a situation is during a joy-filled pep talk.
He cares for his friends and family very much and will often put their needs above his own. If someone he cares about is in trouble he finds a way to either get them out of it or help the situation. Sometimes Hiro even takes the fall for them since he can’t stand to see those around him in sour moods. Hiro is not one to abandon his friends or teammates either - abandoning friends or family is never an option.
Due to his father and now his training as a shinobi, Hiroki is a skilled hunter, even at the age of thirteen. He knows how to and has no problem with killing and cleaning animals for food, never for sport. In his opinion, killing for sport is disrespectful to nature. Something that people wouldn’t expect from Hiro is that he’s very good at math. He has to be, to use his bow effectively, able to aim and calculate trajectory of an arrow quickly in his head. This also applies to thinking logically while tracking prey, be it the quarry of a hunt or an enemy ninja. He has moments where his serious side takes over. The incident with his father had shown that there are times for jokes, and there are times for action.
He has days where he gets depressed, and these happen few and far between. Hiro is young, and still misses his father. When he does get sad, he tries not to show it to the other people of the village. Sometimes his optimism is nothing but a mask due to this.
Appearance
Hiroki is not one with many features that stand out from the rest of the pack. His mother’s favorite thing about him is his eyes. Hiro’s eyes are a piercing silvery-blue that, depending on the day, can be sparkling with innocence or glinting with mischief. Messy raven colored black hair frames his round face though if you ask him his hair isn’t messy, that’s just his style. When he smiles, his whole face seems to light up with joy.
Naturally his skin color is somewhat light, however; since he spends much of his day outdoors basking in the warmth of the sun he is lightly tanned. Hiro keeps close eye on how much sun he gets, since he can’t exactly pull his bow effectively when sunburnt. He standsjust under five feet tall at five foot six inches tall and is built for agility. Since he is so active his muscles have become rather toned for his age, especially on his arms due to his weapon of choice.
Hiro’s clothing is very simple. No matter the situation he dresses for mobility and practicality above all else. His black sandals reach further up his leg than the typical ninja’s, stopping just above the middle of his calf instead of his ankle. For decent mobility, he wears a pair of simple black shorts with no pockets since pockets get caught on tree branches. His shirt is sleeveless so that arm fabric doesn’t get in his way and varies in shades of green, blue and brown.
His Takigakure headband stays on his head, keeping his hair out of his eyes so that he can get a clear shot. Practically the only time it is not present is when he's sleeping. He wears a belt around his waist though it still has a practical use even though his shorts don't need it. From it hangs a simple quiver and his other equipment.
Background
Before Hiro was born, his mother - Natsumi - a kunoichi from the Semitsu clan married a man named Kenji Ryuusei. When all of Natsumi’s family moved away to the land of fire, she remained to stay with her love in the Hidden Waterfall. After several years together, the two had a baby boy, Hiroki.
As a baby and young child, Hiroki would be quieted and finally sleep because of his mother’s stories of her grandfather - A great man and ninja, Semitsu Kizuno. Hiroki loved the stories, mostly because he knew that they were so much more than just stories. They had actually happened, and Kizuno had been a splendid ninja. From an early age, his dream was set. Hiroki wanted to become a ninja, just like his great grandfather. Other than constantly pestering his parents about the ninja academy, Hiro’s life was fairly average.
When Hiroki turned eight years old, his father Kenji decided that the boy needed to learn how to hunt. Living off of the land was much more satisfying and sat better with the family as a whole instead of using wages to buy food that had been who knows where before it got to them. Over the course of the next two years Hiro learned the ins and outs of a bow, how to shoot and kill cleanly. He learned how to skin and clean a kill, and finally how to butcher the animal for food.
During his tenth year while he was accompanying his father on a hunt, they were caught in a difficult situation. His father had shot a buck, and from how the animal landed they both believed that it was dead. It was not, and as they went to examine it the deer lashed about, piercing several places across Kenji’s chest. Hiro’s father could still walk after the deer had left, but barely. After some time they managed to get him to the hospital, and Kenji lay in bed for several days. The doctors had done what they could but by the time they had gotten back to the hospital the damage had been too great. Hiro’s father passed away.
Though he and his mother were both stricken with grief, they did not stop their daily lives. They mourned, and moved on knowing that Kenji would not have wanted them to stay in sad spirits for a long time. Hiro kept hunting, and kept improving in his skill with a bow on his own. He would live up to be a great hunter like his father, but also a great ninja like his great-grandfather.
A few months before his eleventh birthday, Hiro finally joined the Waterfall academy. At the same time, his cousin on his mother’s side Shigure had come to the waterfall village to be a ninja as well. While his cousin graduated at the top of his class, Hiro graduated comfortably in the middle, not a bad student but his grades were not that high. He made up for it though in determination and skill.
Since graduation he has been helping his mother maintain a happy home, though he hasn’t had much contact with his cousin. Over the time since he's been out of the academy, Hiroki developed a teammate relationship with his cousin and a girl named Phyre. Operating as the team leader Hiroki has matured quickly but has a ways to go.
