appearance.
As a part of the Kedōin bloodlimit, Rena can relatively easily choose to look however she pleases. Yet like just about everyone else, she chooses a specific appearance as her ‘default’. During her youth it jumped around a lot, but eventually she decided upon something specific. In her yearning to feel like an individual despite her naturally not really being one, she chose a rather outlandish appearance. In truth she doesn’t even have a gender, yet most of the time she decides to look like a young woman.
While the fair skin color she wears is quite common to the lands, what is atypical how flawless it seems to be. Usually people pick up scars from everyday life, whether it’s simple as a cat’s scratch or major as a burn. Yet she tends to have none at all, her nearly pale skin void of those imperfections. Her physic tends to be more athletic than anything, though she doesn’t show a whole lot of muscles since she would rather her enemies not know of her strength. She keeps her breasts at about the size of full B cups, fearful of them getting in the way if they’re any bigger.
Another strange feature is that she is virtually hairless below the neck, her skin incredibly smooth as well. In her need for individuality, she also decided to give herself the irregular eye color of purple. Sure it looks unnatural, but she really doesn’t care. Speaking of unnatural, the thing that stands out most on her is the very strange hair that she decided upon. Sections of her hair are colored differently, specifically they’re meant to resemble the rainbow. It seems like the order seems to change every time as well, as if she either can’t settle on one pattern or simply can’t remember what they were before.
For the most part Rena dresses as a simple civilian, but in general she wears loose clothing so it’s easier for her to hide weapons. Her attire typically is comprised of a hooded sweater and either sweatpants or shorts. Of course she wears more layers the colder it is and less the warmer, depending on her location or the season. She’ll either wear athletic shoes or boots as well, again depending on conditions. Then when she’s taking the appearance of someone else, she’ll dress and look like them instead.
Despite not wearing perfumes or anything of the sort, Rena lightly smells of fresh apples more often than not. Since she’s able to change her scent at will, that’s just what she likes best. It’s not uncommon for her appearance to have slight alterations as well, since she doesn’t always get it exactly right. She did get used to it enough where she doesn’t have to use a mirror anymore at least, able to give herself a pretty face and her normal curves and multicolored hair without a reflection for reference.

personality.
To most, the random people Rena meets while in her default form, she seems to be quite a reasonable and carefree sort of woman. She acts kind and naïve, as a part of her façade of playing the part of a civilian. Not to mention that she simply thinks it’s fun to, well, have fun when she’s off duty. The rainbow haired lady tends to be playful and perhaps a bit rash, not quite as lady-like as she could be. Her sense of humor is a bit rough and she doesn’t find her enjoyment in shopping or anything of the sort, certainly more of a tomboy when she’s free to be herself.
Despite how friendly she can act, she doesn’t truly trust anyone. Sure it’s paranoid, but knowing that she’s a master of deception herself, she’s well aware that others could have the same skills as her. While she may pick up temporary allies when they have a common goal, it’s incredibly rare for her to find true companionship. For the most part she’s able to ignore the small, annoying feeling of loneliness that tingles at the back of her mind from her solitude, but she’s too cautious to let it lead to any stupid mistakes.
As playful as she can be when she’s off duty, Rena takes her work incredibly seriously. While she’s on the job, she’s skilled enough to be just about whoever she needs to in order to get the job done. The woman is skilled enough to take on the appearance and act as several different people, which she thinks of as archetypes in general. Whether the role’s an innocent little girl or stern old woman or tempting seductress or anything between she can pull it off quite efficiently, she feels.
Regardless of how many different faces she puts on over the years, she has always made it a point not to lose who she really is. Similar to a lot in her clan, she does have some insecurities when it comes to her identity simply because she feels as if hers is fake, but she still sticks to it stubbornly. Once she decided upon what made her, well, her, she clung onto it so desperately. While some of those insecurities of her losing sight of herself still simmer beneath her skin, she tries her best to keep it from showing- and she’s damn good at it too.
The single most important thing to Rena is simply herself; she cares about herself more than anyone or anything else. The only thing that she would bend backwards for is her bloodline, other than that they’re simply shit out of luck. Rena would do a lot of work considered immoral, but she doesn’t care. Long as she’s compensated for her efforts, she doesn’t really mind if she’s killing either a tyrant or the benevolent leader of a church. Only toddlers and babies are safe from her blades, yet that’s not to say she wouldn’t kidnap them for a third party.

history.
Far away from the main lands and ninja villages, Rena was born underground in the main Kedōin clan community. Since it was normal there, she spent the first few years of her life without a face. Her parents didn’t bother giving her features since they didn’t need to hide there; instead they believed it more important for her to develop her own identity. While she was raised, she played around with a lot of different looks until she settled on female, but even then she hadn’t yet settled upon her rainbow appearance.
As she grew to understand the life and death gods of her people, she grew far more attached to the deceitful god of life. Sure she still honored the death god and all, but she spent most of her devotion towards the other. While she was still young she decided that she wasn’t finding the answers of who she was underground in Moon, so she eventually rose from the subterranean society to experience the world in general. She had little to take with her, just a little money and a few ‘good lucks’ was all.
After reaching the mainland, she typically just did odd jobs here and there to make enough money to merely survive. The wonderment of how normal humans lived amazed her, as they didn’t live in deceit and most seemed to be so proud and sure of who they were. Gradually she discovered things about herself as well, like how even though she was more of a tomboy than proper woman; she still preferred to remain female instead of male. She also never felt the urge to join any of the shinobi villages despite knowing of them, preferring her freedom over a relatively easy way to grow stronger.
The years ticked by and she started taking on more dangerous tasks, doing small mercenary jobs in areas she assumed to be far from the hidden villages. Because of this she continued to build upon the powers she already had from her bloodlimit training back in Moon. Since she was naturally gifted at disguising, the decision to specialize in assassination came easy to her, especially since she found that killing wasn’t particularly difficult after things went bad in one of her little missions. Having to provide for herself in such a harsh way took her out of childhood quite quickly as well, as she learned that foolish mistakes could have the most dire of consequences.
For a while she lived with Suigen, quietly improving her abilities and working as a waitress while she also took on more dangerous missions on the side for a bit of extra cash. Through the grapevine she eventually heard of Yabunkashou, a small fishing village rumored to be full of the rogue-like sort. The settlement sounded quite attractive thanks to her particular skillset; it wasn’t a difficult decision to move down there. To this day that’s where her home is, even though she’s no stranger to roaming around.
