Description: By sending chakra into a body of water the user is able to make a drastic change in water temperature, sening it to the point of boiling. The water at this point can cause first degree burns to third degree burns, depending. This technique allso can only effect a certain amount of water at a time.
Limit: Must know the Fire and Water release.

What did it take for one to excel in the art of cooking? Had it been the finer things, such as learning how to properly blend herbs for meats, or know which dish complimented another; no, it had been much simpler. According to his Sensei, Genpaku had to first learn a rather basic Water Style technique that would aid him in his endeavors of the cooking craft. He would need to learn how to effectively boil water. The jutsu in question, the Netou no Jutsu, was something quite foreign to Gen, yet according to Mago-sensei, he would be able to learn it thanks to his knowledge of both Sui- and Katon ninjutsu. The training began as thus:

"Alright, Eggplant.. so ya wanna be a cook, yea? I bet you can't even boil this pot of water right here.. as that is where it all starts--in the cooking utensil." Mago-sensei had been rummaging through his wares as he pulled a nice sized, black kettle from his storage before filling it with lukewarm water. He also poured himself a shot of sake as he proceeded further;

"Now, first. I remember you telling me that you know both the Water and Fire Style releases, which are necessary for this simple technique; however, this is still a Water Style jutsu, so use the Fire Style to simply supplement the water with its heat. If done correctly, you will have learned the Art of Boiling Water - the Netou Jutsu." Somewhere in between his lecture, he managed to slip himself three shots as Genpaku watched on, annoyed by having to conjure both elements to perform a task that a stove-top could. Before Genpaku could start, Magoichi showed him how to do it before he'd allow the former a crack at it.

"You see... how the water begins to boil? I am channeling my chakra into the kettle, my Suiton primarily with a hint of Katon. It is a D-ranked technique, but knowing how to use your elements in tandem can prove tricky, especially if you've never performed such a feat." Steam rose from the kettle smoothly as Gen watched in silence. He observed the handseals his master performed and asked him to repeat them once more began he himself began his attempt at the Netou Jutsu.

Handseals completed in a slow and controlled manner, Genpaku's chakra began to pour from his center into his steely arms; from there, the spiritual energy would vibrate out into his hands, and then towards the kettle full of placid water. His focus was on controlling the water molecules, as to open and shift them with Suiton, and further expand and heat them with Katon. It appeared that what he was doing was okay, as the waters began to shift and soon bubble, albeit minutely. His sensei turned to inspect his progress every now and then as he prepared the requisite ingredients for the meal that his pupil was to cook after learning how to boil water. Releasing his hold on his chakra, he stopped the ninjutsu as he readied himself at a second go at the thing.

With a bit more zeal, Genpaku initiated the Netou no Jutsu; again, his hand was outstretched above the kettle as chakras poured from he into the medium. His added vehemence to quickly learning this technique was shown in how effortlessly the water began to boil within the kettle. Steam rose at a steady pace as the water below churned and bubbled vigorously from his supplied release of both Suiton and Katon. Magoichi clapped his hands together, which broke Genpaku's concentration, thus the ninjutsu, as he turned to face his master.

"Excellent, excellent. It seems that you now know how to boil water, little Nasubi. That technique has even more advancing stages and can be pretty dangerous in battle. I've heard of people suffering up to third degree burns from higher ranks of the thing."

In his mind, during the second time he performed the jutsu, Genpaku had already began to think thoughts of using it in battle before Magoichi even mentioned it. While something that he wouldn't use right off the bat, he would settle on using it if it came down to having to interrogate a person. He had smiled at the thought of it before his sensei broke his concentration by clapping...

Magoichi had gathered the vegetables and spices that would be needed for the soup that he had planned on letting Genpaku cook for the both of them. The Seitetsu male eyed the ingredients quite dully, as they were of your everyday sort of vegetable, until his steel eyes leered in on a rather large and overly purple eggplant. He looked up from the thing at his Sensei with an irritated glare.

"What's this, then? Are you trying to make fun of me, Mago-sensei?" Gen's hand clenched into a fist as his steel muscles coiled underneath the table. His annoyed look appeared more comical than hostile. Magoichi, seated at the other end of the table, leaned back in his chair as sake rushed forth from his cup in between parted lips.

"Take it how you will, but I do enjoy vegetable soup with eggplant. Now... less questions, more cooking."

Genpaku had first began to chop the vegetation up into thin slices with cool ease as the blade of a kitchen knife cut through the soft flesh of the plants. There were carrots, peppers, celery, the obnoxious eggplant, potatoes, tomatoes and green beans. At his disposal was an assortment of spices including: black pepper, sea salt, onion and garlic salt. It wasn't rocket science that was needed to create a simple meal, but basic know-how. After several minutes of preparing the ingredients, Gen performed the Netou no Jutsu he'd learned prior to get the water in the pot to boil. Within a few minutes, he lowered his chakra control, thus bringing the kettle to a simmer. One by one he added the vegetables, also adding in dashes of spice in select intervals to further invigorate the natural flavors of the medley.

Now, with one hand steadily stirring the contents within the pot and the other feeding chakras to the water as to keep it warm, Genpaku began to smell a waft of pleasantness in the air as the onions and peppers strong odor filled his nostrils. The olive oils that he had included into the water prior to the vegetables began to simmer as well, adding more of a light brown color to the liquid; to further compensate for flavor, he added more spices and a broth of some sort which caused the liquid to further darken as the vegetables began to churn and become submerged in total saucy liquids.

"Mmmmm--I can't wait to try this vegetable soup of yours, Nasubi," Magoichi called out from the living area. Gen had thought of adding an extra ingredient to his sensei's dish, but held himself from such low antics. Doing things to one's food is something that he would never dare to do truly, as he saw it as a low and dastardly offense.

It wouldn't take too much loner--about twenty more minutes or so--before a plume of steamy smoke lifted from the pot. Gen tasted the medley and was impressed by his first cooking endeavor. As he relinquished total control over his spirit to allow the kettle to cool, he went and retrieved the dishes in which the food would be served. Two large bowls and two spoons sat upon a counter as the food finally came to a nice and hot temperature. He poured the contents into their respective bowls and stared down at them both for a second... Altogether, it looked bland. It lacked visual appeal. Quickly, he cut pieces of parsley up and sprinkled them atop the vegetable stew before squeezing bits of lemon juice into the bowls; another stirring was required, and then he set off to fetch Mago-sensei. They both sat at the dining table across from one another as the habitual drinker dove into his meal without a second's hesitation.

Gen sat there, waiting for some sort of reply from the man. He would see the surprised look on Magoichi's face as he scooped out another heaping spoonful of the food. As he himself lifted his spoon to eat, he would be stopped by his teacher's words.

"Not bad, not bad... this eggplant is squishy, however. I was looking forward to enjoying it more than anything in this meal, Nasubi. It is my favorite." Somewhat irked by his teacher's complaints, Gen picked out a piece of eggplant and tasted it. The man was right: it was indeed very squishy.  After the meal, Genpaku would take his leave from the place and headed back towards the village. Sometime after other areas of pursuit, he would return to the forested abode of the Red Leg teacher, who seemed to enjoy his simple meal.

Honestly, I don't think you'll need a skill roll for training dishes. As long as you aren't serving any PCs in this thread, it'll all be to improve the skill.

Also, I have no idea how difficult it would be. I'm sure soup is more difficult than omelettes, since you need to know specific amounts of multiple ingredients so that the soup doesn't clash with itself.

Nice touch with the eggplant and the nickname match.

Anyway, +5, Learned.

Genpaku came running through the forests just as Magoichi had appeared at the front door, carrying a basket of vegetables from his garden. What perfect timing. Gen waved towards the Red Leg master, who lifted his head in acknowledgement to Genpaku. His hands had been full: one, with the basket; the other, with a bottle of sake.

"Hey, Nasubi, just in time to cook dinner, I see." Mago-sensei hollered as Gen rushed towards the abode. As he came closer, he noticed the contents of the basket: some onions, a few herbs and... great. More eggplants. The Seitetsu youth let out a sigh as he entered into the home of Magoichi. He walked into the kitchen and prepared himself as he looked at the gathered ingredients, thinking of what he could cook up with what lay before him.

From what his sensei had gathered from the garden, Gen had only a few choices in preparing a dish. It seemed that Mago was a vegetarian, more so, an eggplantarian, based off of how he enjoyed the fruits of the earth and didn't seem to possess any forms of meat within his household. Genpaku would attempt to cook a fish dish the next time, but for now he opted for a spicy dish, as he himself enjoyed meals packing heat.

Cutting the eggplants proved to be no hard task as he then began to dice them up into even smaller pieces; the onion, on the other hand, caused him bouts of fighting back tears as he peeled and cut into their blanched flesh. Another plant, the garlic clove, was cut up to compliment the two other vegetables as Genpaku readied the cooking pan with oils of vegetable and sesame. The teenager had planned on making this dish spicy so he picked out a select few herbs and spices that would go hand in hand with the green meats of the dish. He sprinkled salts, black pepper and a bit of sugar onto the mixture of eggplant, garlic and onion slices. The final spice, that of chili garlic sauce, would be added after he had allowed the meal to heat up over the flames of the stove. He picked out the eggplant first and set them into the now hot stir fry pan. One could hear them squeal as the heat began to cook them. From the living quarters, Magoichi called out:

"Damn, man. You live up to the name Eggplant--that smells fantastic already! I'm starrrviiiing." Mago hiccuped after his compliments to the chef. His bottle of sake lay empty at the floor as he slumped back in the chair he resided in. Genpaku stuck his tongue out at his sensei behind his back, still nowhere near finishing his meal and adding his special sauce. After minutes of allowing the purple plant to cook, he took them off the heat and added the onion and garlic to the pan, supplementing them with butter and oils to keep from burning to harshly.

More salts were added to the pan as Gen also sprinkled more peppers onto the two bulb plants. He supplied the two with soy sauce to add taste and then allowed the eggplants to join the conglomerate as the dish began to simmer and sweet smells began to fill the air. Five minutes turned to fifteen quickly before he added the final touch to the pan, the chili garlic sauce. He made sure that it was a spicy dish, but not one entirely too spicy. The sweet smells quickly were engulfed by the powerful, nostril opening aroma of spice as Genpaku readied the eating ware. He called out to his sensei as he poured them both glasses of water from a nice pitcher he had found within the kitchen. The meal looked appealing to the eye and well, one good whiff of the thing would cause one to become teary-eyed. Truly, it was much better looking than his vegetable soup. Genpaku smirked, thinking about how just earlier in the day he had been critiquing the countenances of his Water Clones. It seemed that everything connected in some manner.

He was the first to dig into the meal. The flavors erupted in his mouth as the heat from the chili garlic sauce coated his tongue. It made him sigh from total enjoyment. 

"What do you think, Mago-sensei?" he asked, taking another big bite out of the meal.

"...Uergh; it--it's good," the inebriated man said, holding his head in one hand and the fork in another, "Too.. too bad I don't have any sake to go with this, *hic* I love a spicy meal with sakeeeeee..." Having to opt for water, Magoichi frowned as he gulped the liquid down.

Nighttime had fallen by the end of their meal and Genpaku was on his way out the door just as Magoichi stopped him.

"Run into town, would ya, and get me some more alcohol. You're close to being ready to learn the Red Leg: I can almost taste it."

Those words set Genpaku rushing out the door with an accelerated amount of gusto. His efforts were soon to pay off; what he thought now, though, was how he would get the sake. It would seem that his days of pickpocketing were about to be rejuvenated to gather what his senpai requested of him.

Never been fond of eggplants, to be honest. I once ordered them at a restaurant when I was little, because I liked eggs. Loo and behold, eggplants taste nothing like eggs. Hated it since that day, it betrayed me.

Hm, I wonder if the red leg master knows any drunken boxing.

Genpaku had been outside of the village by the time the second announcement had been made by the Kusakage. He was well within the forests and upon Magoichi's home with the sake in tow. The steel eyed teen only thought of what to cook for he and his master as he approached the estate.

"Konnichiwa, Mago-sensei," he said. Gen met the man in the living quarters and bowed to him before heading to the kitchen. A bottle of sake was passed to Magoichi and the other accompanied Gen into the kitchen. He knew what he would cook next.

Inside the kitchen, Genpaku gathered the ingredients that he would use for this session of cooking. His skill had increased tremendously in a short period of time, a testament to his dedication to the art of cooking. From inside the living room, Magoichi appeared, holding his bottle of sake as Gen prepared to heat the Mirin sake in a small saucepan.

"Man, Nasubi." he took a swig of sake, "You're using sake now in your ingredients?? You may be my favorite pupil yet." As the liquid began to boil inside the pan, Gen motioned for Mago to pour some of his own alcohol into the mix, thus adding more alcoholic potency to the sauce for the dish. Within thirty or so seconds, Genpaku lowered the heat and added in a cup of miso paste, looking around to see what he would prepare next for the completion of the meal.

Eggplants, of course, were cut into oblique shapes, then soon placed inside a large dish; the miso-sake paste was used to cover the eggplants, giving them a whitish coat. The salmon that his sensei had taken out a day or so before was pulled from the cooling space and it was, too, dipped inside of the paste. Six fillets had been placed on a cooking board while Gen used Katon to create an open flame over the grill outside. He took the board holding the fish and eggplants outside before returning in to retrieve herbs, spices and oils to further his method of cooking. He spent just ten minutes alone on the process and while it wouldn't take the salmon too long to grill, he still had quite a while before the grill would heat up to the requisite temperature.

Firstly, he seasoned the eggplants and oiled them, making sure to shake a majority of the sake paste from their skins as he placed them over the indirect heat. The purple flesh of the eggplants began to char lightly and Gen could tell that they hadn't burned: the smell of heated sweet sake made so strong an aroma that Magoichi just had to step outside onto the balcony and watch on as Gen whipped up his purple magic. 

"You've got to go to the Baratie and whip up some dishes, Nasubi!" the man exclaimed. Genpaku would have asked the man what he meant by Baratie, but he thought it was just drunken blabber so he continued to cook his meal. Once the vegetables had gotten soft, he removed them from the heat; he cut holes into this type of foil and then oiled it finely before placing it to the flame, causing it to heat up. The foil rectangles had been allowed to heat up for three minutes before Gen began to use the salmon. 

The pink fish had been placed skin side down on to the foil before he closed the grill lid. The smells of sweet and spice mixed with the smoke from the cooking medium and wafted high into the air. In eight minutes, he flipped the fillets over and allowed the cook more thoroughly; as the skin turned brown and crisp, Genpaku placed the eggplants onto the grill again, allowing the entire meal to heat up as the fire began to die out. Another five minutes and the meats had been cooked fully. Gen gathered the things on the large dish he had brought out and returned back into the home. Lemon zest and chives were added to the top of the eggplant and salmon, adding more flavor and a bit more aesthetic appeal to the overall look of the dish.

"Grilled Miso Salmon and Eggplant - something I thought you might like, sensei." Two plates had been placed on the kitchen table along with the eating utensils. Gen had for himself some water while Mago still clung onto his bottle of sake. The latter man would sniff heavily as the smells of the dish rose into his nostrils. Had he swooned from the lovely smell of the meal, or had it been from a level of drunkenness?

"Damn fine meal, Nasubi" Magoichi commented after the course. His hand lay on his stomach and the other reached for the bottle of sake as he looked towards his pupil.

"Tomorrow, you start training in the Ake Sune." Genpaku nearly dropped his fork on the ground from the level of surprise he had just experienced. His endeavors as a cook had finally paid off! It was unusual to see Gen blush, but the Red Leg sensei had been one of the lucky few to see him in such a positive mood. After their meal, Gen could hardly rest from thinking about what he would accomplish in this exclusive Body Art style. He dreamed of eggplants and kicking.

Description: When the creation of the Ake Sune - 赤い足 - Red Leg was formed so were several stances. This technique allows the practitioners the capability of using the techniques needed. This is the first, the beginning. All stances are used for standing straight, relaxed, alert but never tense. Some users stand with their kicking leg slightly tapping along the floor. Some users stand having their strong leg shot up into the air. Some users have their hands within their pockets until the right moment. This is needed in order to pursue the capabilities of the Ake Sune - 赤い足 - Red Leg style.

It was before the sun rose above the canopies that Genpaku and Magoichi had been out in the wilderness. They stood across from one another, doing several stretches as they primed their legs and core for exercises. Genpaku had been stretching to his side, his long and steeled extremities flexed adamant. His hands had been resting in his pockets as he lifted his left leg upward. The amount of balance he possessed -- a portion from Seitetsu, the other from exercise -- was unreal. Smoothly, his leg went well above his head in a quick hooking motion; he would then repeat the same process with his right leg. 

When Genpaku moved, he did so with a calm look on to his face. Magoichi had instructed him to seem stoic and relaxed when performing the Red Leg. He said that the dishes are best served cold, despite the affinity of fire associated to the Body Art style. Standing in one spot, the boy would start to rapidly tap his foot, placing most of his body weight on one side as his foot patter increased in speed. Not paying attention to his poise, Gen had stamped a hole into the ground. Iron Leg fit him greatly as a moniker. The teen started to run back and forth. The coolness of the forest kept him from breaking a sweat in his routine.

Squats came next once Magoichi had his shot of morning sake. Like the ever-malleable quicksilver, Genpaku showed off his fluid and graceful movements as he skipped into the air. His leg strength had been remarkable. Magoichi was only impressed further by the Genin. He had dedicated a lot of time in training his legs before he even sought out the Ake Sune master. 

Magoichi revealed to Genpaku that the exercises that he had made him do where actually variations of the Stance of the Red Leg. Training the legs to enact what you wished had been an exercise of its own. The physical part came innately easy for Genpaku of the Seitetsu ichizoku. Feeling satisfied with himself, Genpaku would run off into the wilds. A quick sprint into the village would pump his muscles as they flexed tensely.
