Scent
Rank: "D", "C", "B", ["A"], "S"
Skill: TaiJutsu
Effect: This extraordinary special quality allows a creature to detect approaching enemies, sniff out hidden foes, and track by sense of smell.
Special: ---
Drawback: ---
Description: The creature can detect opponents within 10-meters by sense of smell. If the opponent is upwind, the range increases to 20-meters; if downwind, it drops to 5-meters. Strong scents, such as smoke or rotting garbage, can be detected at x2 the ranges noted above. Overpowering scents, such as skunk musk, can be detected at x3 normal range. When a creature detects a scent, the exact location of the source is not revealed—only its presence somewhere within range. The creature can take a movement to note the direction of the scent. Whenever the creature comes within 2-meters of the source, the creature pinpoints the source’s location. When finding Herbs and Animals (random), Scent may improve searching for them. Learning "D" Rank allows the user to search for Common things, while "S" for Nearly Impossible. Each rank user learns increases chance of finding by 2% for the Rank of Herb, and increases per Rank thereafter. Example: At "S" Rank User gains 10% increase chance in finding Common Herbs and Animals but only 2% Increase for Nearly Impossible Herbs and Animals.
Limit: Must be an Animal, Fey, Monster Beast, or Vermin. Innate Animal Jutsu.
Emi 0/10, Zetsubô 26/100, two rolls for the nuts, one 80% and one 86% (scent), 5 found
When he had picked up all of the nuts from that tree and its neighboring tree, he heard a quiet footstep somewhere behind him. His natural instinct told him to dodge, and so he did by throwing himself to the side. Even though he had reacted quickly, the animals that charged past him barely missed. It had been a small group of rhinos, but as they disappeared in a pink haze, he knew that they weren't real, they were genjutsus. His opponent had finally proven he wasn't a perfect clone of him. But he didn't know why the opponent suddenly had reappeared.. until he saw the same strange flowers from before. When he saw a distinct pink cloud just above the flower he was able to see that the small boy had a similar cloud at his feet. It was vague, but when he had seen it, he couldn't take his eyes of it.
The opponent did however not wait for Emi to gather his thoughts before it made a long series of seals. Emi's eyes wandered up to the hands and saw that there were none of the techniques he knew. Confident that he was starting to get the upper hand in the fight, Emi smiled and drew a couple of his shurikens and threw them at the hands of his opponent in an attempt to stop the jutsu. But before they reached their target, the surroundings started to spin and shift into a dark-green color. The ground were no longer firm, and he started to sink down into the earth while the sky appeared to force him to stay still. Panic hit him as his knees went under the surface of the ground. He cursed at his ignorance and tried to block out the enemy from his mind. Since he had learned how the enemy was fighting, he just had to force his mind to remain calm and unaffected by the genjutsu in the area.
It did however not work, and he was starting to sink down further into the ground. He used his arms to push himself upwards, but in vain and as he raised his gaze to see if there were anything he could use to get out, he saw that the opponent was running straight at him. A powerful kick hit him in the shoulder and made him fly through the air before landing next to a big rock. The kick made him wake up from the genjutsu and the surrounding had turned back to normal. He didn't know why the unreal attack had affected him that much, but his shoulder had been severely damaged and the pain had freed him. Determined to avoid getting caught in another genjutsu, Emi bit his lips and send in a couple of pulses of small chakra waves into his brain to clear it from the strange hostile chakra. He wasn't sure how the stronger versions of genjutsu techniques worked, but the lower levels used to leave a trace behind.
When he was confident that there were no enemy chakra left in his systems and he had successfully jumped back on his feet, Emi started to sign a long series of seals. It was time he took the offensive role. When a couple of water spears appeared around him, he turned and aimed them towards the flower. But the clone noticed what he was about to do and made some signs on his own, and before Emi was able to launch the spears, the environment got blurry and twisted. It was however too late for him to stop the spears, and when they hit the ground without anything changed, he knew that he had missed it. Genjutsu was the worst kind of fighting in his opinion, to affect someones mind and tell them how the world really looked or felt was like cheating reality. So he allowed his rage shine through, his pulse was pumping quicker through his body, his eyes were dilated and his mind grew blank. It was time to try a new tactic.
When Zetsubô pushed his head into a small hole next to the trunk of the tree, he found a small number of nuts in the hole. They were however opened and most of them had even been eaten. So he pushed his head back out and smelled the air once more. He had to block out the nuts he had already found and see if there were any others in the area. As his head were angled towards the sky, he was able to catch some of the fresh winds and pulled it into his lungs through the nose. The air was fresh and with the new winds, he got a new variety of scents. It was as if he had entered a whole new kind of forest. The trees became higher, wider and had their leafs a lot further down than the other ones and the scent was sweeter and darker than before.
As he walked past a small stream of water, he suddenly felt a very familiar smell. A damaged rat had passed the area not very long ago. So he followed the trace with a big grin on his face while he licked his lips and imagined how the animal would taste. His sense of smell had improved so much lately that he even could feel the faint smell of the ant trails and how many of them had walked on them. It wasn't something that he was interested in, but he couldn't help but getting a image in his head with a small number of ants walking by while the sky was still dark. He shook his head and continued on with a faster pace than before. Since he was able to smell the rat so strong, there were no problems following it even if he were to run after it. Less than 10 minutes of tracking lead Zetsubô to an old tree which was leaning over a much younger tree. The rat had hidden itself in between the trees and since it was almost dead already, it didn't take much effort to chase it down and eat it.
As he looked up on the two trees, he noticed that one of the trees were the one with the strange looking nuts that his master was after. So he growled loudly, hoping his master would hear him and come to fetch the nuts.
