A girl, a seal and a bar!
Here the rumours had led you. An AnbU from Kusa had recognized him: a man who according to the village record knew ancient and immensely powerful secret techniques and even taught them to those who managed to get his approval. Of course it had been worth to check out despite the village’s decision to let this person be. Besides, since when did you allow yourself to be limited by the conventions of other people? The search had been short, on the streets of the city a few people had pointed you to the old district and in the old district the people had directed you to this pub.
It was a place typical for the old district. As soon as you entered the smell of beer and smoke entered your nostrils whilst the sound of a hundred conversations at once assaulted your ears. The ochre walls were covered with a myriad of various stains, varying between grease, beer and port to less identifiable sources. The wall opposite to the door was lined with high oaken cabinets which were filled to the top with bottles of various liquids and empty glasses. In front of these cabinets a bar stretched across the room, on one side occupied by countless chairs where people sat conversing and drinking the local dark stout, whereas on the other side a bartender was shining his glasses with a piece of cloth when he was not serving drinks. High tables were spread around the rest of the floor, each surrounded by a set of barstools which too harboured people. Empty seats were scarce but empty tables were impossible to find. Luckily the place had a high ceiling as at least a third of the customers were smoking, blanketing the ceiling with a light blue and greyish cloud that would otherwise be hanging around your heads.
To the right of the door a small band was preparing. Two men were picking their guitar strings, tuning their instruments. A drummer was screwing the last piece of his instrument in place and a violinist was still unpacking his gear as the last man, who was probably the singer was hooking up a microphone. Next to the bartenders, the customers and these men there also were two ladies in their mid twenties who were serving drinks from large plates which they precariously balanced on one hand, filled with drinks that were mostly stouts and scotch. The hiring criteria were clear, they were quite well endowed and their dresses were low cut. One had red hair and the other was a brunette, both wearing their hair in a tight bun to prevent it from being saturated with beer. There were at least fifty, if not sixty people in this room, which was about fifteen by ten meters in size, how were you ever going to discern the man you were looking for from this crowd?
