Character Depth
Personality:
World weary and bearing the weight of duty in her countenance though her posture remains that of a knight, proud and somewhat regal. Tending towards introspection but unafraid of conversation or interaction with others, when she is brought out of her shell, or imbibed with ale, she will hold forth tales of ancient lords and ladies and forgotten lands. Generous, kind, and typically slow to trust and trust lost is not easily earned again. She has learned the value of hard labor and is unlikely to shirk from a task should it be beneficial for her to complete it, even if the benefit is only to someone else.
Her mannerisms and emotions are typically reserved, and she will try to avoid speaking about herself whenever possible and her past is typically a closed book to those who ask. Though those whom she trusts typically learn more about her over time. She sees her duty not as a burden, but as a gift, an opportunity for her to broaden herself more than if she had simply been left at home, a wife for some wealthy lord. In a way she sees the open road as an escape from a life of otherwise dull boredom.
Victoria will answer questions directly and promptly, a hallmark of her military upbringing, and speaks no falsehood. She is not unintelligent, but lacks scholarly polish and will tend to speak in blunt forthright terms, especially when she feels uncomfortable. Long years in travel have stripped her of childish gullibility and she pries only truthful tales from those whom she questions. Finally when she takes to battle it is with a fierce countenance, but one that is lacking in pleasure or joy. Thusly she takes no pleasure in killing, but sees it as a necessity.
Appearance:
Lean and well muscled, not for appearances sake or the cause of vanity, but her physique is born through the trials of hard labor and martial life. Her face is aristocratic, as per her birth, and the high cheek bones and tight, angular facial features represent those of a beautiful woman come upon tough times. Her eyes, a deep striking grey, are surmounted by thin, but ragged, eyebrows and a unmarred forehead. Though the faint line of a faded scar on her left cheek speaks of battles long past. Her hair, auburn in color, is straight and fine and gets matted easily in high winds, so she tends to keep it somewhat short. When she dons her helm it is first hidden beneath a padded coif however, if only to keep it from her almond shaped eyes.
Her fair skin, pale despite the sun of the open road, is marred in a handful of places by faced scars. They reside on the backs of her calloused hands and corded forearms mostly, though the aforementioned line on her cheek can be seen clearly in decent lighting. She bears the tattoo of her family on the back of her right shoulder, a single red rose, and another of a burning torch upon her left forearm, to signify her duty. Dust tends to mar her features, as the roads between towns offer little in the way of running water to wash away the travel grime.
She wears simple leathers and a long ruddy cloak, both worn from use and patched in several places. When given time to prepare for battle she dons the heavy plate armor provided by the nobles of her homeland. It is brass in color, though steel in the making. Inlays of silver case over her pauldrons and greaves, though her gauntlets are bare of decoration. Her sword is long and slender, but tough and has seen much battle. Her kite shield has the wounds of old skirmishes upon it, dents that refuse to be beaten out and the crest; a rose, has long faded and needs repainting.
Background/History:
Pyretown, a town obsessed with the accomplishments of the dead, the living reside in mausoleums, though the image this presents is misleading. The interiors of such structures are opulent, covered with tapestries depicting victories of ancestors long past. The buildings themselves are made from stone brick and are imposing to those unfamiliar with the town, but for those who have lived there all their lives, the forbidding structures are home.
The town's festivities revolve around celebrating the dead, ancestors, heroes, and those who died too soon. But also the dead from distant lands, those who's tales are sung in many halls across the known world. Every few generations, five boys, and five girls are chosen to wander the world in solitude gathering tales of heroes and warriors, artisans and tyrants, beautiful women, and powerful men.
They are the sons and daughters of the Pyre and Victoria Delarose is one such daughter.
Taken from a young age and trained in matters of survival, travel, and war, these young men and women are legends of the community, and when they die their tales are sung the loudest in the vast halls of their families. Victoria herself comes from one of the most noble families in the town, the Delaroses, the nobles took their family names from flowers long ago, in memory of the beautiful meadows that once covered the nearby plains, now only quarries and metalwork smithies persist.
Victoria, as all sons and daughters of the pyre, is a skilled fighter trained in the ways of battle, so that she might survive her epic pilgrimage, but she is also a talented orator, skilled with her voice and with her mind she learned from a young age how to sway a crowd or teacher with truthful words spoken just so. Few are they that can resist the power of her soft and elegant voice for long, especially bawdy men.
At the age of eighteen she was deemed ready, and was set forth upon the world to gather the words and tales of those long past. When she has spent two score years abroad she may finally return home. Though in part she is not sure if she wishes to for the world is so much greater than her mundane little town. The people of Pyretown know of ninjas, and of samurai, of wars and forgotten magics, but they do not practice them, preferring to be artisans and craftsmen. Even food is imported in through trade. As such the people of Pyretown are mundane, and not a single Chakra Molder has come from that town in many hundreds of years. This of course puts the sons and daughters of the Pyre at a disadvantage in the open world. But their training compensates them admirably.
At a young age Victoria discovered her affinity for animals of all stripes, but especially horses. Because of this she is a talented rider and can fight from horseback with ease, having learned to do so at the tender age of thirteen.
