Summoners. The technique wasn't new. I've seen it used before, only to slip my knives between the ribs of anyone who thought to turn the tables. They never stood a chance. I am everywhere, and I am nowhere. Even so, it had interesting tactical implications. Now that I am part of a community, now that I have found a master to keep me sane, my Takikage, I had the lives of others to keep in mind. Summoners I've killed in the past used it to call allies from other planes of existence, or else from miles away, even a few rooms of a stronghold.
That was an offensive use, but I felt certain there would be other utilities. Defensive ones, such as moving an ally even just a few feet out of the way of an incoming blow. The mechanics were simple enough. Form seals, add chakra, poof, the being or item of your desires is in front of you. Or wait, that was method not mechanics. Did anyone really know how it worked, in truth? Chakra Jutsu in general? Maybe. My old master looked into this sort of thing often. A pity he was no longer around to ask. Perhaps my new master? No. She knew nothing of the true me, not yet. It was enough for now to serve as an ordinary girl. The time would come when she would know. Everything. Even how I came to enter this place, and set myself ahead of even my instructors in the Academy. The lives I took in my madness. I don't feel bad about them. They are little more than field mice, food. But my master has a bleeding heart. I feel bad for what it will do to her.
I must restrict myself. For her sake, I will eat my own wings to keep myself tame. I don't know why I've been thinking of summoners of late. Perhaps it's the bond they share with the object of their call. It would be nice to share that truth. But for now I am an ordinary girl, ordinary but for my prodigious natural talent. Studying should be nothing new, in the eyes of passers by. I am the greatest new graduate to be seen in decades. Surely I must be constantly studying new aspects of the ninja trade, to have achieved such. Even so, I felt conspicuous, reading more about the Summoning technique. The seals, they were familiar. I'd seen them more than once after all. It seemed the first few were the same among all types, differentiated by the endings. That made sense. They were in essence the same technique, tweaked to suit more specific purposes.
It was interesting how special tattooed seals could be used to summon weaponry and powerful animalistic incarnations, but all others required use of a scroll. Not sure why that was, but until someone with a much better grasp on the matter than myself developed a workaround I would just have to do things the way they were described in the books. Experimenting with summoning Humans, such fragile creatures, would be particularly dangerous. If they were to arrive only partially, perhaps missing an arm or something, while it would be vastly amusing to watch it was doubtful they could survive. A pity they weren't able to heal from any and every injury, no matter how catastrophic like myself. Of course some wounds would require a longer period of recovery. And perhaps feeding. But not on these people. They were not to be food. Enemies though. Enemies indeed I could feast upon.
Almost in mockery, I twined my fingers through the described motions of the summoning technique for Humans. Obviously nothing would occur, not without a scroll and a properly marked individual. But familiarity never hurt. They were at least few in number. That would aid immensely in my memorization, considering my already vast repertoire of such skills. Indeed, I had many ways of altering the flow of conflicts. But more never hurt. Maybe, just maybe, I too would become a Summoner and shift the numbers and positions of allied forces to more favorable states. The idea elicited a small chuckle. Indeed, a normal girl, with the capability to alter entire wars. I may not be the best fighter solely by strength of arms, but through deceiving myself and others alike, it was simple enough to cause an overwhelming shift of odds.
