Walking around, Jouki wanted to say goodbye to his Sensei, but knew it wouldn't be right to awaken him at this hour. The smell of the salt water on the wind filled Jouki's nostrils. His home was truly a beautiful island. Tall palms with fresh coconuts, light sandy beaches with all kinds of shells, and, of course, Jouki's village. It was small, only about ten huts and a small restaurant. All of the villagers had their own jobs; Joukai lived alone and worked for the restaurant though. Both of his parents worked for the Daimyo of Umi No Kuni. It was only a few weeks ago that the restaurant owner laid Jouki off so that he would be allowed to finally travel. His parents were well aware, after all, they suggested that he travel to Kumogakure.
Going back to his hut, the new adventurer decided to check that everything was packed. He went down the list:
- Kunai - Check
- Shuriken - Check
- Utility Belt - Check
- Greaves - Check
- Claws - Check
- Flint - Check
- Gas Mask - Missing!!!
Where was his gas mask?! He began frantically searching. It wasn't hooked to his belt, where could it be in such a tiny hut? Jouki looked under his cot, but no luck. Trying to find it, he turned the hut upside down. Hours were spent going back over the same areas. Checking in his clothes pile, he found some crabs, but no gas mask. Running out over the sand wearing nothing but underpants and socks, Joukai tripped over a rock and face-planted into his boat. Luckily, his face landed a few inches from the gas mask. Relieved, he proceeded to pull on his pants and shirt. After getting ready, the boat loaded, and double checking everything, he cut the rope holding the wooden boat he spent so long with the craftsman of the village making and set off. Chances were he wouldn't get to Kumogakure immediately, but it was the first step of a long and great journey.
