Ah, how could he have been so daft? He felt a wave of embarresment flash over him as he realized what he had done wrong. The tether did not hunger for his chakra, in fact, feeding the tether only his chakra would have the hunger grow. It wanted the soul, which he had refused to give it. No wonder he had lost control over something so simple. Shouta suddenly understood why it was so difficult to get this scroll as a Genin; it was just like a young ninja to get too excited and not carefully prepare in his training. He sighed, this time, he resolved, he would get it right.
With that in his mind, the need to save himself from the embarrassment that had consumed him, he knew what he needed to do. Again he let the handseals come to the tip of his mind and performed them deftly. Afterwords he let the tether once again take form, only now slightly afraid of the gnawing hunger that his body had only recently just felt. It ached, longing for the soul to come out into it. Shouta waited patiently, working to mix his soul (with which he had only worked with slightly but luckily his Astral Projection technique training would pay off here very well) with his chakra. Eventually, even under the gnawing eye of hunger, he felt that the mixture was correct.
He began to feed the tether with it and instantly the hunger began to fade. Sated with the chakra/soul mixture, the hunger eventually died completely and Shouta could feel the tether nearly come to life. He realized that his body was not losing chakra at all. He was simply transferring it to another space. It was an odd thought, to be sure. The chakra still belonged to him and his body still recognized it as his it was just no longer in his body. Shouta wondered what other technique could make chakra and the body behave so oddly. It was the only technique that he knew of that allowed for chakra not to be in the space of the body but completely outside it. He realized he was losing focus on what was important and attempted to refocus himself on the task at hand.
The tether was being filled slowly, Shouta was afraid of filling it quickly again. Suddenly he realized that the tether was brimming with chakra, so much that it was nearly tangible, and that it was holding half of Shouta's chakra. Astonishing, and he felt like he had lost nothing at all! Now that he knew how to transfer the chakra, it was time to allow it to take the shape of the clone. He allowed the chakra to come back into him as he withdrew the tether. It would only be a couple more steps until he would be able to send the tower attendee back with his scroll.
