Setting aside the blood magic, the awful rituals, and the darker things that Dante and his cohorts did in their lust for power, he stumbled upon some actual deeper thoughts on the origin of chakra and what it truly was. It was a school of thought, according to Dante, at the time to believe that chakra was a life-force, made up of spiritual and physical energy. Shouta was taught such things in the academy so it was clear that such things were still accepted today. But Dante wanted to go further than that, saying that Chakra was a life force that was gifted to humans by something divine. He did not specify what these divine things were, and it was just as possible that the word was a placeholder for something greater than the mortal race of men, but he treated the concept with great respect and used a very thoughtful language when attempting to discuss it.
He discussed the spirit of man and how it transcended his body even after death. He discussed how the body is split into the mortal and the immortal and that since chakra was half due to the immortal part of the body then all chakra must live on. Chakra would thus surround us, in the air and stuck inside inanimate objects. He drew most of his conclusions on the way that ghosts and other spirits behave in an attempt to understand how human souls interact with the world around them. When they are alive they have memories, relationships, and other noteworthy objects and people that they place their love into. Yet as they grow more and more disconnected to the physical world they forget those things and leave their chakra behind.
He considered that to attempt to extract this chakra was thus justified. It no longer belonged to anyone because those spirits no longer knew of their physical existence, any concept of self had been left behind long ago. Therefore there was just chakra sitting around, ripe for the taking. Shouta began to understand the need for the rituals. He was not sure if Dante himself was responsible for the horrible rituals because according to this logic, Dante would see those rituals as barbaric. Perhaps in his later years he grew more and more desperate to cannabalize the spirit-world chakra and tried things that were not inanimate but recently dead. He remembered one ritual vividly in which the ashes of a loved one were consumed, along with the burned remains of their prized possessions, in an attempt to gain their chakra powers.
Dante recognized all the elements and how they were trapped inside things of certain descriptions. Katon chakra would be heavy in ashes, of course, and perhaps Doton would be held in the jewels and pearls of the deceased. He talked of how he wanted to store his chakra in very specific objects when he passed and actually attempted to develop memory techniques to stay connected to the physical world longer than usual after he died. It gave Shouta an eerie feeling. What if Dante was right, and he was sitting around, watching Shouta read his ancient artifacts?
At the thought, he quickly rolled up the scrolls and placed them in a trunk. He no longer wanted to think about such things.
