Punch Mechanics 0/5
Yamato was out of practice. He knew that he could punch. Still, he hadn't proven this to his Krav Maga master. He was wearing sweatpants and a black t-shirt. The shirt was tight and one could see the outlines of his muscles through it. Instead of the combat boots he normally wore, he was wearing sandals. As he entered, a man who was slightly taller than him and just as well muscled motioned for him to join him on the pads. The gym itself was not very special. The floors were wooden, and the walls were an eggshell color. There some signs, and a small weapons rack with fake weapons to practice with. There were also some shelves that had assorted pad and protective gear so that instructors wouldn't get injured. There was a blue padded floor for beginners. They would begin their training there, and then move to other areas of the gym or even outdoors to experience what a fight would feel like in reality. For now, Yamato was confined to the blue padded area. Other than him and the other man, no one was present.
He removed the sandals before stepping onto the padded floor. The man said, ”Good afternoon Yamato. It's been a minute since our last session. I hope you're ready to hurt. Before I start your conditioning, I'm going to show you how we punch. I know you train in Muay Thai, but I'm going to walk you through this like a child who has never thrown a punch. Sound good?”
Yamato nodded and said, ”I understand. It has indeed been too long.”
The instructor replied, ”Good. So first I want you to form a fist. Make sure that your thumb isn't clinched inside it. Keep it on the outside of your fingers. We don't want you to break your thumb.”
Yamato did as he was instructed, and formed a fist. The instructor picked up some pads and told him to get in the fighting stance with his left foot forward. Yamato did so, and the instructor agreed that his stance was good. They began to train basic punches.
The instructor made Yamato walk through a basic jab first. Yamato put his left foot forward and let out a quick breath as he extended his left arm towards the pad covering the instructor's left hand. He repeated the process while going progressively faster each time until he was doing regular jabs.
Then he worked on a basic cross. He brought his right foot forward and exhaled as he extended his right arm aiming his fist for the instructor’s right hand. Once again, he repeated the process going faster each time until he was doing a cross at full speed.
