The Jab
Rank: "D"
Skill: TaiJutsu
Effect: A quick, straight punch thrown with the lead hand from the guard position.
Special: ---
Drawback: ---
Description: Picture Stand with your feet hip distance apart. Step your right foot back 18-24 inches with the weight of your right leg on the ball of your foot (right heel is somewhat elevated and the knees are slightly bent). Bring your right fist close to your right cheek bone and your left fist slightly in front of it about jaw height. Pull your elbows in towards your ribs so that they line up somewhat below your fists. Push off of the ball of the right foot, bend the left knee slightly and start to extend the left hand in a pushing type motion (there should be a subtle rotation as your left hand goes forward your right shoulder moves back). You may also rotate the fist so that when it reaches the desired destination your left palm will be facing down. Retract the left hand as fast as you extended it and return to the original position. Remember before punching relax the hand, snap it forward and clinch before making contact. Do your best to strike with the first two knuckles and keep your wrist in neutral position upon impact. Aim six to eight inches beyond your target. Extend the arm only about 90-95 percent. Keep your chin tucked down toward your chest--this protects your jaw from exposure to being hit. Bring your hand back as fast as you throw it. Move your head on an angle as you throw the punch.
Limit: Must learn in a gym that teaches Bokushingu (Boxing), Must know Upright Stance or Semi-Crouch
Shenjie hated how simplistic his training had become as he stood opposed to a tall punching bag that would be receiving his fists as he prepared his upright stance to begin throwing punches. "Now...the first thing that you need to understand is throwing a basic jab." Goki said shenjie took on his upright stance placing his left hand slightly forward to represent it taking its part as the jab hand opposed to the strong to straight hand. Shenjie sighed as he slowly took us left hand and made a slight swat like punch with his left hand that didn't hit the bag with a strong deal of force, however it did connect. The young Shitakuma tucked him his chin as he began to throw a smooth rhythm of punches that followed a consistent beat of about 90 BPM. Shenjie kept his eyes focused on then bag as he felt his hands slight twist with each moment of contact. His punch speed was decent for the official first attempt as he began to push more into the bag with his wrapped up fists. With each basic hit, Shenjie felt his body beginning to sway in that he began to desire a wider range of movement. As Shenjie began to feel his body moving more with the shift with each punch, he quickly prepared his body to shift sides so that his right hand would become his jab hand opposed to his right. Shenjie completely recognized that being able o fight ambidextrously may be key when facing up against an opponent who may or may not have an advantage with the other hand.
Shenjie prepared his feet as he shifted his stance so that his right foot went slightly forward to create a stance that was more left hand oriented opposed to being right handed oriented. Shenjie kept his chin tucked and his body moving as his striking rate never faltered. As Shenjie shifted his stance, his punches didn't skip a beat. Hence, Shenjie began to throw his right hand in the same sense as he had his left. He began to throw a slight twist into each hit as he kept his steady rhythm pounding onto the tall bag that was beginning to form an indent in the sandbag that was slowly becoming more and more pressed into the bag as Shenjie began to press into the bag as he pushed his body forward while leaning his body forward as well. Shenjie now felt like he was ready to begin shifting back and forth as he stomped his feet on the ground, which spread out a vibration up the wall which gave him a vivid picture of the punching bag as he began to send jab after jab at the bag relentlessly. The jabs were beginning to become repetitive as he began to beat his way into the bag with his right hand as the jab hand, making the bag receive the same amount of punishment as he pushed the bag around with his constant punching.
"Shit..." Shenjie muttered as he began to feel how different his right handed jab was from his left handed jab. Shenjie noticed that he was much more forceful in his right hand jabs then his left hand jabs. He thought about how he was prominently right handed, which he figured was the reason for his left jab not being as powerful or controlled as that of his right. Quickly switching his lead hand, Shenjie decided that it would be better to practice with his left hand. Shenjie now began to preform a double beat pattern upon the bag as he tried to strengthen his arm so that he could be equally proficient with each hand. He felt his body's muscles ache as he began to get into the hundreds of repetitions. Sweat being to dribble down the blind shinobi's brow as he continued to rapidly nail the bag over and over again with his
Left, which made Shenjie begin to feel the burn of the drill. "Alright, now let's mix it up." He heard Goki say as he pit a hand up to stop Shenjie's repeated punches. "Now we are going to do a one two switch combo that will get your body moving and work your shoulder." His Sensei began to preform examples of the drill which Shenjie visualized through the vibrations in the ground that Goki created by shifting his stance back and forth.
Shenjie was now getting into his starting stance as it was now his turn to begin throwing the jabs. Shenjie lined up his lead left hand and began to throw a pair of jabs that created an excellent momentum as he quickly began to shift his body so that he switched his lead hand to preform the same double beat combo. Shenjie felt his body beginning the accept a more central mode of balance as he repeated the shift over and over again to create a adrenal boost and a sense of muscle memory. After he felt comfortable with the two jab combo, Shenjie began to preform a three hit combo that followed the same concept, except that he had to push himself to make the hits each effective individually. With each hit as he continued to build his punching muscles so that each hit would be just as heavy as the first, and his straight punches would have the base strength to actually deal some efficient damage opposed to just jabbing the opponent like the jab was suppose to. Shenjie grunted as he pulled his arms down in fatigue. He held the second Goutetsu stance as he began to pant a good deal with sweat soaking his Gi. "That's enough for today..." Goki said as he turned around to find his student doing more push ups and again pushing his limits to become the strongest Shinobi he could be.
