When he lifted his arm to do the technique, though, the blade cracked. Shigeru watched, astounded and frustrated beyond all belief, as the former weapon fell, piece by piece, to the ground.
"Really?" Tired and irritated, Shigeru went through all the things he could have done wrong. The water was tightly packed, the swords had been pretty much dripping with Kaishin chakra… With no idea what had gone wrong, Shigeru was forced to just… try it again.
The final one was a struggle, and Shigeru found himself straining his last bit of chakra control training to get the resources needed to perform the technique again. He performed the hand seals for water creation, if only because he had a vain hope that going through the repetitive motion might save him just a bit on the chakra front. His eyes lazily followed the water as it swirled around his arm. After performing the one seal meant for the technique, he yawned while the water formed shaped its way to his forearm and made a plank, and shaped the water at the same time as he turned it into ice. His jaw set as he focused on shaping the water into a sword, moving molecules this way and that, while simultaneously chanelling chakra into spreading ice up the weapon.
The sword wasn't properly formed, with one half sharp and the other smooth and useless. It didn't surprise the Kaishin- he was still running on low chakra. He focused on making the blade a mirror image, once again imagining the perfect sword and using his chakra to make the blade on his arm reflect that. Of course, that meant he would have to liquify and resolidify the weapon, so, undoing Ice Creation he watched as the ice fled back down the weapon so Shigeru could reshape it. When he had the blade he wanted, it was relatively simple, if tiring, to turn the sword ice again.
His arms were enveloped in the prickling cold, again, as the ice formed; like icy metal against skin; but it was not unbearable. The ice felt like part of him. Gingerly, he propped the blade against the floor. This time, it stayed solid, so he banged it against a nearby rock. The weapon refused to break.
Much better. Finally done, Shigeru poised the weapon at the dog. At this point, he was more tired than curious, and his passion over testing the technique was all but gone. But the blade was still propped against his arm, and he was going to use it on something.
