Character Depth
He believes in survival of the fittest, and works for the benefit of himself and his friends above all else. Random acts of kindness from Shigeru are exceedingly rare, and most of his good deeds have some alternate motivation. He doesn't mind murder one bit. Despite only having ever killed one person, he's been privy to quite a few deaths, and the shock of it wore off over the years. He's learned to look on the bright side of death- that every kill is a bit more experience for the one doing the killing.
That said Shigeru isn't hostile most of the time. On the contrary, he is amicable to most people he meets unless given some reason not to be. He enjoys talking to others and finding out about them, and gives an ear to listen. A born and bred extrovert, Shigeru never backs down from conversations. He likes to initiate them with people he finds interesting, and in the shinobi world, he's found there's no lack of interesting people.
He lacks the delicate social graces of some of the older ninja clans, or, if he does have them, he certainly doesn't use them. He rarely backs down in social situations, is fond of starting conversations and making loud jokes. He gets energy from social situations, and he hates being low-energy. He's also by no means a homebody. It takes very little persuasion to get him to displace himself and go off on whatever adventure catches his fancy. The more the merrier. It might be his age, but if he's not stepping out of his comfort zone, physically and emotionally, he's not doing enough.
In terms of doing things, he's certainly the do-first-think-later type; something the Academy has been trying to curtail in him since day one. His schooling has managed to scrub some of his more impulsive tendencies away, but Shigeru still tends to do the minimal amount of research before jumping into a situation and getting a feel for it himself. It's risky, and he usually relies on someone else to reel him back. With no one around, though, it's likely his more impulsive behaviours will get the Kaishin in trouble.
Shigeru's most distinguishing facial features are the two moles under his eyes, identical and evenly apart. They're more often than not mistaken for tattoos. Similar moles dot his arms, legs, and chest, some natural but most as a result of sun damage on his once-pale skin. After years of burning him red, the Stone sun has finally managed to give him a respectable tan, and the moles remain as scars.
Shigeru's hair is straight and crow-black, falling down to his shoulders. Because caring for it like it needs it is something he hates doing, more often than not he's got a few strands flying into his face or just bouncing around, haphazard. In missions he avoids the distraction of his long hair by putting it into a low ponytail, but most of the time he lets is fly free. Occasionally he'll have the forethought to pull at least the front of it back, so it's not flying into his face all the time, but those days are pretty rare.
Each muscle Shigeru has was earned in a hard-fought battle against his genes, which seemed to be trying to keep him lanky. From the minute he hit puberty and other boys started packing on muscle, he's been training outside of class to gain muscle. After three years the end-result is a lean, toned and almost wiry physique, still thinner than the average shinobi. Combined with his modest height, Shigeru doesn't cut the most intimidating figure. He makes up for this by pulling the coldest expressions he can. It usually works- one benefit of big, doe eyes is that they're effective at expressing a range of emotions, including malice. If it doesn't, well, he probably didn't want to get on that person's bad side anyway.
Clothing-wise, the Kaishin has a penchant for red. His casual outfit is usually a red T-shirt, casual trousers and shinobi sandals, for comfort, or a casual, yukata on warmer days. The one he most often wears has a simple, gradient pattern, going from orange at the neckline to faded red, and tied with a white obi. On missions his usual garb consists of the same shinobi sandals, grey trousers, and, since bright red doesn't usually fly for shinobi, he settles for a loose, off-red top that drapes over his upper body, cordoned off in the middle with a black obi, with sleeves just short enough to give a casual glance at what little muscle he has.
Shigeru was a hyperactive child; curious and excited, if a bit slow. When his elder sister joined the Academy, Shigeru was sorely jealous, insisting that he be enrolled as soon as was able and spending all his time 'playing' ninja with toy shuriken and teddy bear targets. Unfortunately, Shigeru's birth had been the start of more strife in the family. This time, it showed no sign of dailling down, and when Shigeru was 4, the disagreement between Akane and her family escalated, forcing the Smiths to leave the fire country and flee to live with their closest extended family in Stone. Opting to ignore the grim rumours they had heard about the harsh training the some parts of the academy made its students endure, however, ended up being the downfall of their relatively uneventful stint at parenting.
Moving from Kiri's outskirts to Stone was a large and unwanted change for Shigeru- from lush forests and busy streets to endlessly barren, featureless rock. Even at four, he found trouble adjusting. The new, older friends he made were different than his friends at home, and he found himself changing his behaviour to fit in with them- killing animals, harassing elders... By the end of the year, his parents were alarmed in the changes they saw in not just him, but their daughter- though with their hands full with their own troubles, they chose to ignore it. Adjusting to a new society had made Shinya Smith too sick to work, so Shigeru found himself spending more time out than in.
In another two years, Shigeru was officially enrolled in the Academy, and he found it in himself to be excited. All his excitement abated on the first day, when, after an excited outburst, the teacher 'kindly' reminded him that he was not in farmlands anymore. The following few years were filled with gruelling, spirit-crushing work. He tried pretty hard to go along with it. The move and the change killed the boy's drive to succeed, and he found himself falling behind in the school, day by day. Even his juniors far surpassed him, and the bruises he would get from training and shocked his parents, who were still wary of doing anything drastic- where would they move to? In a few years their son gone from a relatively-peaceful if rambunctious child to a gleefully ant-stomping little firework, within two he'd killed someone. An unfortunate accident activating his kekkei genkai- the sudden burst of ice had offed one of his juniors in the playground. It had left Shigeru traumatised, despite, but more so he was happy to have some form of power his classmates didn't. At first, it had terrified him. Shigeru wouldn't look at anything for weeks, frightened he would hurt it. The thought of facing the higher ups made him quake in fear- but if anything it was celebrated. He got into loads of trouble, almost being expelled from the academy; but behind the reprimands the boy could tell that his teachers were proud. He could use his kekkei genkai for the village. He attended the boy's funeral, and cried when appropriate, but Shigeru had found his muse.
By his 4th year he was the terror of the school…'s second hand man. One group after another, if there was a bully to be found, he was probably tagging alongside them. His grades and self-assurance skyrocketed as he found the motivation to succeed among his peers, and the aggressiveness he kept just under the surface came out, netting him a reputation as a tyrant even among the students at Stone. His new behaviours shocked his parents, but whatever punishments they could offer usually got laughed at, with their non-violent approach to parenting. Shigeru became one of the top students at school, an example and a menace.
Now, freshly graduated and out of academy politics, he's been forced to find other things to occupy his time with. He figures the first thing on the agenda is going to be finding those Kaishin sitting cozy on the countryside and teach them a lesson about harassing his parents. Of course, he'd need extensive training, and a team.

Personality
A henchman at his core, Shigeru can motivate himself, he just finds it much easier to do it when in a team. In the past, this has usually been his usual group of fellow menaces, but now, as a graduate, he finds himself without a team again. Shigeru finds his list of accomplishments piling up when he's got someone else to report to, or along with. In turn, he's fairly likely to stick with the team he's with- once they can retain some semblance of power; and go along with his basic moral values i.e. they should lack moral values. He's not useless on his own, but years of depending on others to weather the changes he'd made during his childhood has made him a bit of a dependent. Appearance
Shigeru looks like a Kaishin, only not quite. The long, hard face he inherited from his mother's side of the family stops him from being as pretty as most of the clan's male members, and his lack of delicacy doesn't help matters. The only facial features the Kaishin clan offer Shigeru are his eyes and nose. His eyes are round and dark, brown, almost doe-eyed if he'd ever let his expression slip into something so 'soft'. Along with his slightly upturned button nose, he manages to shimmy his way into attractiveness. Shigeru's most distinguishing facial features are the two moles under his eyes, identical and evenly apart. They're more often than not mistaken for tattoos. Similar moles dot his arms, legs, and chest, some natural but most as a result of sun damage on his once-pale skin. Background:
A black cat crossed the path of Shigeru's mother the day he was born, and they say that was the start of her bad luck. Plain and practical chunin-level ninja Akane and Shinya had been dating since right out of the Academy. Deciding, in their genin years, that the fighting and killing of missions was overwhelming for them, they both quickly took their chunin exams and became teachers in Konoha's Academy. They would only have less wedding guests to contend with. Somewhere down the line, they moved in together, had a daughter, got married, then they had their son. But their contentedness was ruined by fights with her family over what else, but marriage problems? Her husband was the son of a missing nin who had frequently terrorised their farmlands, and the relatives were not happy with it.Shigeru was a hyperactive child; curious and excited, if a bit slow. When his elder sister joined the Academy, Shigeru was sorely jealous, insisting that he be enrolled as soon as was able and spending all his time 'playing' ninja with toy shuriken and teddy bear targets.
