"This soul stuff just doesn't make sense." She griped as she headed towards what was essentially a freezer. Minerva's voice in her head chastised her and she rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah, yeah." She mocked as she opened the door to the freezer and stepped inside. It was a matter of effort not to allow her Kaishin blood to take over and protect her from the cold, no she had to let her soul do that. She sat down tailor style and closed her eyes, focusing on the weird energy that was her soul, as if that would somehow protect her from the elements.
Let your soul surround you.
"Control your soul, take lessons from ghosts." Mayu muttered darkly but she tried to listen to what she was told. She found the energy and let it rise up and surround her like a blanket. She imagined it draping over her face, her neck, body, hands, and everything. It settled around her now. Now she was quiet, listening for the next set of instructions.
Let warmth fill it. Gather thoughts of warmth and let it imbue your soul with that power.
"Think warm thoughts, really?" It was impossible to keep the sarcasm from her voice. She continued to mutter under her breath as she tried to conjure 'warm thoughts'. What did that even mean? Summer days? Greenhouses? Tropical islands? As she thought these images she did not even realize that her body temperature was beginning to regulate, even her legs that were pressed against the cold metal floor no longer felt cold. It was really something else, that her soul could do something like this. After a minute her eyes opened and she glanced around, surprised by what was happening.
She exhaled deeply and found that her breath wasn't even creating clouds in the cold. "Well I'll be damned." She muttered. Cautiously she pressed her bare fingers against the frozen metal but she couldn't even feel the difference in temperatures.
You're naturally inclined to cold however, you need to try with heat.
"Yeah, yeah. Never good enough." She muttered as she pushed herself to her feet and moved to the next room, a subtropical greenhouse they had cranked even higher especially for her. She started sweating the moment she opened the door. "This is torture." She muttered as she sank to sit. Not moving didn't help. It was ungodly hot. Seven fires of hell hot. Without waiting for instruction she began to call up her soul once more and allow it to drape over her. Not that it made any difference. Now she just needed to apply the actual teachings. She knew before Minerva said it what was coming though.
Think cold thoughts.
Her eyes were closed or she would have rolled them. Right away that nice freezer popped into her mind though. She thought almost longingly of the ice crystals that were formed on the wall there, or the brutal cold of her Kaishin techniques. Yuki no Kuni even sounded nice, and that place was nothing but a desolate wasteland of snow and ice. Soon the sweat stopped coming. It wasn't as easy as staying warm though. She had to think of more 'cold thoughts'. She had to concentrate that much harder. Cold was her natural state so it was much more difficult to overcome the heat, or that was the logic she told herself.
