Michiko sat silently for a few minutes on an abandoned tree stump just outside of town. Her expression was one of absolutely nothing , a vacant stare of having spaced out completely. Minutes dragged by with no change. The wind whipped around nearby trees rustling the leaves but otherwise no legitimate change to the surroundings. Michiko's eyes suddenly came into focus. If someone could 'see' genjutsu they might get a feel for what was going on, a 'preprogrammed' instance had been activated in michiko's brain. For the next few minutes she spent talking to absoutely no one, or more accurately to someone who wasnt there. An old friend from when Michiko was a child. Someone who was there when she was initiated into the soulcaster arts. The man was a master of genjutsu and soulcaster arts, and had "preloaded" various training sessions into some people he'd taught things to. Michiko could see him, but he otherwise only existed in her head. After a while of conversation Michiko turned to the non-existant person with a serious expression.
"So I’m looking to get better with ‘the arts’ we were taught growing up. I’m rusty so start with the basics. I need to learn a few new tricks." Michiko stated facing her old Shaman friend. Remaining silent her friend places his palm on her forehead and closes his eyes for a few moments. ”I see. Terribly lacking. Then how about this." He states releasing his touch on her head. ” I will teach you a handful of things and we will go from there. Lets try a technique that lets you weaken your foes physical abilities." Michiko nods in agreement.
”This one is basic. Bring your mind to a focus. Visualize your soul energy vibrating gently, like a low ripple in the water. As you prepare the technique, pull the energy through your body into a mass towards the front of your hands. Once you’re ready to activate the technique, feel the energy leave your body and rapidly focus it on your opponent. You want to use your own soul energy to tear away at the opponents , but instead of intending to destroy them you’re intending to maim their ability to move." The shaman explained as he took a step back signaling he was going to be the target to test on. Michiko nodded and closed her eyes. Keeping a clear mind she visualized her own soul energy as an aura around her. Watching the thin aura that remained motionless she scrunched her face a little as she focused on moving the energy around. Slightly different than manipulating chakra, the soul energy didn’t always respond the same way. To anyone who could see chakra and soul energy the soul energy within her began to undulate gently at different points on her aura stream. The energy around her being slightly harder to control than usual she began to realize how out of practice she was.
Almost as if she’s in rem sleep her eyes begin darting around like she’s watching something, in reality she’s trying to focus on stabilizing her aura. She knew how to perform the technique that tore apart an opponents soul, but just disabling them? That required a little more finesse than she’d been trained with in this aspect. The aura around her fluctuated as she maintained focus on creating an overall flow of slowly pulsing energy. For a few moments it stabilized and she took this opportunity to act. Bringing both arms up to her chest and flinging them forward she mentally pushed the soul energy down through her arms and into her hands to release a thin but invisible beam of energy , that from a 3rd party perspective would appear more like a single beam that came from a point between the two hands than the hands themselves should anyone be able to actually see the energy. The beam lurched forward at a much slower speed than Michiko thought it should and as it reached the shaman it connected with his own already prepared aura of soul energy. The two clashed and Michiko’s beam fell short of doing anything spectacular.
”Superb. This time when you make connection try to impress the concept of “slowing down” on my soul." The shaman stated with an almost surprised sound in his voice. Michiko did not feel like her usage was “superb” but who was she to argue? Nodding she repeated the process of trying to stabilize her aura. Struggling only slightly less she attempted to maintain focus on the objective as the energy picked up speed. The points of excitement scattered around her vibrating aura did not stabilize as easily this time though but it was not enough of a problem to stop this attempt. Again her arms came up and again they flung forward. The soul energy lept out and touched the shamans soul aura with a faint zapping sensation. At the moment of energy connection Michiko’s face scrunched in concentration again as she tried to visualize the target slowing down to a crawl. Her attempt was interrupted by a boisterous laughter from the shaman. ”Excellent! Excellent! You’re getting the hang of it. You’ll do well!" He beamed. His student was a quick study and this impressed him.
