Observation
Rank: "E"
Skill: Skill
Effect: This skill focuses certain powers of observation - sight, smell, hearing, and touch.
Special: ---
Drawback: ---
Description: Can be learned by an Animal. A failed check indicates that the character is oblivious until the thing is pointed out to him. This skill is important for ferreting out advancing enemies or ambushes, generally real-time events and actions occurring, versus scrutiny, which covers static objects or areas. A Game Master may roll an Observation skill check for a Character any time there is an NPC, monster, event or happening that a character might notice, even if he did not specifically state that he is monitoring his surroundings. Characters are capable of noticing any event within their perception. Observation reveals only facts, not motivation. If user has 25 or more Ranks in Evidence Analysis user gains a Synergy Bonus +10 to Observation. Each time learned user gets 1 die roll to increase the skill.

It was all a matter of perspective.
The young Protean stood within the crowd. A busy merchant's street, the perfect surrounding to allow him to hone the skill of observation. He began by taking in the very ground upon which he stood. The vibrations of footsteps all around was like a symphony, largely provided by individual instruments. His eyes narrowed as he attempted to train his thoughts, his very mindset. But it was still irrevocably useless. His arms rest at his side as his eyes fluttered to a close. If he could not see, then he would simply have to feel with his senses. Focusing first on the sense of sound, his ears listened intently to the haggling all about him. Multiple patrons held voices that could easily be distinguished if he listened long enough. As he allowed his breathing to slow, his thoughts slipped toward that which immediately surrounded him..
"That's highway robbery!" he heard, the footsteps not so loud in contrast. His eyelids slowly retracted so that he might lift his head. The general direction allowed him to glance to his west, though he was still unable to pinpoint the specifics. There was much observation that was needed here. In time, he would come to understand and focus far more than his untrained eye would have imagined. Giving himself room to process the location of the voice, he could at least begin to make out the subtle changes in tone and dialect. He would have to start there. It was a change of pace to focus on one's mentality and not completely the physical. With enough mettle, he resolved, even something as trivial as a sigh or a cough could be distinguished.
