If there's anything that Varis wishes to understand more than anything aside from Taijutsu it'll be Chakra itself. The young boy has always had a hard time figuring out on how to use Ninjutsu fluently mostly because he's more of a Taijutsu fighter rather than someone who uses Ninjutsu or Genjutsu. So one day during his 'eventful' day in Takigakure as he finally had a day off from training with Kenshi, his sensei of the Goutetsu style. It happened to be the most boring day of his life so far, because even though he's supposed to be resting his body Varis kept getting restless. Kenshi notices this going on in Varis's young mind, while additionally knowing of what Varis needed to do.
So Kenshi brought out a couple of books that gives details of Chakra Lore and gives the knowledge, that Varis had desired beforehand, to the boy so that he could study and strengthen his mind while resting his young body. Now that Varis has something to do in his day; the young boy decides to walk into his room as the afternoon sun bathes its golden warmth onto his bed sheets that's neatly made, due to Varis taking care of his room. His curious childish eyes lazily glance over at his bed before he plops his bottom onto a wheeled chair, which the cushion is lightly worn as proof that Varis tends to sit there occasionally, as he neatly places the two books in his hands on the smooth wooden surface of his small desk that shuns a dull orange in the sun's light. The Taki boy takes the top book of the two into his small hands before opening the book at the first page only to read the title of the book it seems. "Basic Chakra Writing: Vol 1". Though when he turned to the next page it presented a chapter of what Chakra is and what it is for. However Varis already knew this part and thankfully the chapter was rather short; but the boy read all of it anyways just in case if he missed something. Least to say he could pick up on anything that revealed new information about chakra because there could have been a breakthrough to understand chakra better on the fundamental level based off what Varis has already learned.
Once he had finished reading that chapter he began to read the next chapter that actually goes into detail or rather presents an introduction into chakra writing and while at first Varis was confused on how to read some examples of chakra writing. The boy winds up taking out a blank sheet of paper and takes up a pen to start writing down the chakra writing and practices on how to read for about an hour straight before Varis leans back on his chair and stretches his body a bit. So far he's managed to get a grasp of the basic chakra writing, but he doesn't exactly understand it just yet because he's still new to this and he's hoping that with further study he could understand it comfortably in due time. Combing through his hair with his fingers as he closed his mind from thinking any further because it feels like the depths of his thoughts is going on a roller coaster ride with this knowledge seeping into his lobes. Letting out a sigh as he massages the side of his small temples with his rough hands. Which he felt wierd having his hands rough because everything to the touch, save for stone from a boulder and bark from a tree, feels like silk when he is fully aware that its not silk.
Eventually after having a five minute break Varis picks up the sheet of paper he had pulled out an hour ago and the page is filled with chakra writing and even on the back to where there's not even a blank space left on it now. With his mind being caught up on the basics of the writing Varis was reading the paper like a slow reader would be going because he's still having to decipher and remember which symbol means. This is mostly in the case of deciphering a chakra scroll but in a single sheet of paper form. And what he's written down so far its actually taking him roughly three hours just to decipher all of the stuff he's written down on it. By now his stomach starts to grumble from hunger as he's been at it for four hours now and it actually took him more time in deciphering a single page than it did of him writing it all down. So as part of his break from that Varis got up from his wheel chair and walks out of his room. Varis comes back into his room a few minutes later with a bowl of ramen in his hand with a pair of chopsticks in the other hand as he's eating the ramen. Once he sits down on the chair again he flips the pages of his opened book to the next chapter where the chakra writing gets more complicated that the first thirty minutes Varis was tearing his hair out trying to figure it out but not getting anywhere. Just when the boy was about to give up out of frustration, he came to the realization that the formulas are actually the same way as writing the techniques just in a more complicated fashion. Upon realizing that, Varis started to be able to decipher what the book was displaying though it was a slow pace. A pace that it took him a whole day to decipher one page of the chapter that actually took him a bit longer to complete because naturally he took a break again during the middle of the night to get some sleep and finished the page by the morning.
